welcome! clan vanguard is a gen one lair founded in 2015. while its list of permanent residents is very small, the lair itself rivals that of the most massive clans, and so it has a lot of free space; this is usually filled by orphaned hatchlings that live with the clan until they reach maturity and leave to serve a deity. in this way, clan vanguard exists in a perpetual liminal state. not only is it filled by travelers, but the clan is semi-nomadic, migrating to a new flight whenever they are struck by wanderlust or forced to relocate by outside factors. it has traveled halfway around the world thus far, and is currently in its sixth flight. though residents have come and gone, thousands upon thousands of visitors have passed through their ranks, and old homes have been lost, one thing is still known: they are clan vanguard.

CULTURE & LEADERSHIP
wandering is in clan vanguard's blood. to them, nothing is more important than being able to feel the wind under their wings, to see new places and take in everything the world has to offer. nothing is permanent, and to them, that is a comfort rather than a fear; there's always a fresh start just around the corner whenever they decide to leave everything behind.
many nomadic dragons will state that home is wherever they are, and while clan vanguard can appreciate the sentiment behind this saying, they don't necessarily agree. not everywhere they go is home; sometimes they find themselves in a bad place, and that's okay. there's freedom and joy in being able to return to the skies when things don't work out. they feel that their appreciation of the good times is only heightened by the troubles they face.
so while the clan puts little faith in the concept of home, they do believe that family can be found no matter where you go. they might not be related by blood, but oftentimes, the bonds forged along the way are stronger than that. clan vanguard keeps in contact with many of those they've left behind; letters marking their path even years after their wandering footsteps have faded.
originally founded by a mirror who believed in anarchism, clan vanguard now has a more formal system of leadership, though they have somewhat retained this spirit of their roots. their leader handles the more mundane aspects of getting a group of very different dragons to work and live in harmony.
but when it comes time to decide where to travel next, the leader has no say: sometimes a vote is held, or otherwise the clan simply takes off without a destination in mind. they resist the idea of being tied down by anything. if there is disagreement on where to go, it isn't uncommon for the clan to split. in this sense, there are actually multiple other "clan vanguards" scattered all across the world, made up of those who decided to go elsewhere.
typically, there are no hard feelings over these splits. members of the clan simply come and go as they please. on a similar note, one of their longest-held traditions is to take in anyone without a home, especially orphan hatchlings or young adult dragons who have struck out on their own.
