Pre-Arrival Breach may exist in the shape of a dragon, but this is no more than a guise. In truth, they are a fragment of the Shade; a scout which has succeeded in arriving at the surface of Sornieth through the aid of a misguided alchemist, who has done more damage than they can ever begin to imagine. How did this happen? Well, maybe it's best to start at the beginning. Quintavi, an aspiring Shade-worshipper, has long since made it their life's work to study the mysterious power that had once almost swallowed the world in darkness. How could they not? The Shade was fascinating, and for such a tremendously strong entity, it was barely understood. Only spoken of in legends barely remembered, yet still lurking... Quintavi could sense its presence on the darkest nights. When they looked up to the star-dappled sky, something looked back. It was terrifying, yet beautiful. Quintavi needed to know more. But the more they learned, the clearer it became that they needed to really see the Shade. To bring it closer and study it. Yes, of course it would be difficult to safely bring a piece of it here, but once done, Quintavi was sure it would pose no real danger. Just a sample to study - what could it hurt?
