WIP History Oddly enough, Coruscant was once just one of the thousands of hatchlings that pass through Clan Vanguard every year. The healer, Sedna, found the little nocturne when she was out collecting herbs one day. With a mangled left wing and no parents in sight, it was only common sense to take them in; Sedna was all too aware that a young one in this situation wouldn't be able to survive alone. So Coruscant spent the next few years with Clan Vanguard as their foster home. They spent much of their time with Sedna, who was never able to fully heal the wing despite their best efforts. It left Coruscant flightless and miserable. Other dragons their age were starting to mature and embark on their great journeys to serve the deities in battle... but here they were, left behind. ... gets into tinkering, makes their prosthetic... and years down the road here we are with them building an army of war bots to fend off the undead siege. inspired by the success of their prosthetic, they worked on a side project when they didn't have their hands full with automatons. gradually, it became their main focus: building a lifelike golem, an artificial construct with enough intelligence to direct the bots in battle. when complete, calacatta was their magnum opus. powered by a self-sufficient energy core and equipped with the ability to make complex decisions, they could act just like a real dragon. the golem became coruscant's general out in the field, eliminating the need for coruscant or any of the other clan members to put themselves in serious danger. coruscant's creation allowed clan vanguard to escape the cairnstone siege at long last; they reached the southern icefield and began the slow process of rebuilding. but that wasn't the end of coruscant's troubles, not really. ever since completing the golem project, coruscant had been conflicted about calacatta, and the ethical issues involved with programming orders into something that was, for all intents and purposes, not a mindless drone. calacatta had their own feelings and motivations. it probably hadn't even been right to make them a general in the first place, but there wasn't much to be done about it now. instead, coruscant resolved to set calacatta off on their own, to let the golem decide their own path without any further direction on coruscant's part. they distanced themself from calacatta, not wanting to interfere with their fate any more than they already had. they resolved not to make something with such a degree of intelligence again. coruscant was a tinkerer, not a parent. | xxxxxxxx |
