EDIT: Or you can play the auction house and Crim's Collection post. It's kind of... ah, chancy, but you can make some money if she asks for the right stuff.

I didn't say it was a good way to make money, but it's better than nothing. And you can sell the food if you already have plenty of it, even though it doesn't sell for much. The Fairgrounds will be back eventually, but for now we'll just have to deal with this.

Some of the familiars and battle stones from the coliseum sell for hundreds to thousands of gold without ever having to touch the auction house. You can vendor things for their default sell value from your hoard. The default sell value is the value that appears in the tooltip.
Of course, if you have patience selling to other players may get you more gold in the long-run, even if it takes a bit for the transactions to go through.
