Growing up in the Hotaru Clan was an experience for Wavecrest.
She enjoyed playing with her two older brothers growing up, the three of them getting into lots of trouble as their boundless energy caused them to accidentally knock over more than one valuable artifact. Excited to explore, the trio would often wander the length and breadth of the Lightweaver's Domain, exploring the many nooks and crannies in the Hewn City before exploring the cliffs next to the Tidelord's domain. She would curl up in the sun-warmed water to doze, blending in almost perfectly with the surrounding tide pools. Similarly to her father, Wavecrest often feels more at home in the water than in the clan of her birth.

As a hatchling, Wavecrest was especially close with her brother Triton. She idolized the older spiral, following him everywhere. The two of them would often play in the water together when Levi would refuse to join them in 'that dirty puddle'. One of their games was one of skill, each dragon taking turns diving into the water after various small pieces of treasure, the goal being to go as deep as possible while still retrieving the piece. Other games involved holding their breath to see who could remain below the water the longest. Lastly, she and both of her brothers would all lie together, looking at the sky. It was a strangely soothing pastime and when her brothers left the clan Wavecrest would often think back fondly on those childhood memories.

After her siblings left, Wavecrest was initially despondent, considering following them to serve the Lightweaver before Umi arrived to join the clan. She would often see him out on the seas searching for fish. After a few months, Wavecrest finally approached him, wanting to learn about his technique. Although she has no magic over the water, Wavecrest's natural enthusiasm and boundless energy helped her pull in large catches. Excited by the skill involved in catching the fish, she elected to continue to help Umi feed the clan, knowing how difficult it can be.

____Wavecrest quickly improved her skills under Umi's tutelage, although she could never breathe underwater like he could. With that being the case, she learned tricks for holding her breath longer even with the ocean pressing in around her.
It was Umi's suggestion that she talk to Ignia about making an object he called a diving bell. This allowed her to go deeper and deeper underwater, seeing more and more different sights. Eventually, she began bringing back souvenirs from her trips. At first they were small things, like shells which she would use to decorate her lair. Eventually, though, she began to bring back more, including pearls which she would occasionally sell to those in the clan or give away to close friends.

____While she finds diving to be peaceful and relaxing, Wavecrest does have other interests outside of the sport. She enjoys astrology, often looking up at the stars while floating in the water at the end of her work day. While at first it started as a simple love of the stars, eventually her easily bored nature led her to examine the meaning in the stars and their patterns. This led her to Sirius, the two starting to engage in lengthly discussions (often turning into debates) over the meaning behind the constellations in the sky. Although Sirius joined the clan much longer after her, Wavecrest considers him to be her best friend.

_Family and Friends_

____Being the daughter of the clan mystic was not easy. Wavecrest grew up with a father most in the clan described as 'distant' at best. While no one would say anything to her directly, she could tell that many of her peers weren't comfortable visiting her family, lest they run into the mysterious seer. Her mother was much more attentive however was often off training to protect the clan, leaving Wavecrest to learn to take care of herself. When home, though, Aurora lavished her daughter with as much love as she could.

____Prior to meeting Sirius, Wavecrest's closest friends were her siblings. Levi's quiet and almost cold behavior took after their father, although Wavecrest had no idea where his dislike of dirt came from. Triton, the eldest brother, was always very protective of his siblings and Wavecrest would often turn to him for advice when she needed it. Since they left, she initially threw herself into work to distract herself from their absence.
Eventually befriending Sirius, she is intrigued by the other's story of how he became a Veilspun. In return, she often brings him anything she finds in the ocean which reminds her of the night sky, the two occasionally spending time with Andromeda as they look at the stars together. She can see Sirius pining over the other Veilspun and, while she has developed some feelings for him, is content to wait and see what becomes of his relationship.

____At one point, Wavecrest briefly spent time with SuaveStrawberry, bearing him hatchlings which he and Lupin raised together. Although she loved her children, Wavecrest was happy to stand back and let the others raise them, knowing that otherwise they would never have any children of their own.
