Biography

Uh-oh, looks like this travelling salesman wandered a little too far from his home lair (KingVulture, 437722), and now he's off to see the world! If you ever feel the need to exalt, he'd really appreciate it if you could just return him to the home lair, to the “Dragons Off To See The World” thread, here, or to the hub if you don't want another dragon in return. Please refrain from exalting him!

Important note: Please only trade this dragon on travelling dragon threads, as opposed to places such as the Auction House.

Midrin would like to receive a permanent home someday, so if you'd like to adopt him after he's been travelling long enough, just let his owner know!

Midrin has already figured out a lot about business, and aims to show his knowledge by selling interesting items to other clans.

Midrin made it through the Lost Jungle to get to the Cave of Lost Souls through a series of comic miracles. The young dragon is admitted into the clan, but when he tries to sell the leader some of the interesting items he's collected on his trip from his home lair to hers, she ignores the offer and tells him a growing boy his age needs his rest after such a long journey. Calla settles the young Gaoler into the traveler's den, where the retired traveler Shiver greets him. Midrin, undeterred by the queen's disinterest, directs his sales pitch instead to the weathered Imperial.
"Ah, I see you're a traveler like me!" Midrin begins with a cheery smile. "You and I both know the benefits of a good map. Would you like to see the one I drew of the jungle I just walked through?"
Shiver shifts his weight, unwilling to shatter the child's dream, and tactfully neglects to mention that detailed maps have already existed of the Lost Jungle for centuries, drawn by the clan's cartographer before she'd even learned to fly.
"Right, yes, it's very nice," says Shiver, not committing to a purchase nor directly refusing the insistent little salesman. He endures a few more hours of sales talk before finally convincing the child to go to bed. The fluffy hatchling then collapses in his new nest.

After a few months in the Cave, Midrin decided to head off. He'd grown up a lot in that small amount of time. He'd even had a brief brush with romance. As is in the nature for a traveling salesman, however, it became time to move on. Shiver bought a map from the young man and introduced him to the clan's newest entrepreneur, ChaiLatte. She was from a big city and suggested Midrin try to sell his wares there, where he might have good luck. Midrin thanked the businessdragon for her advice and set off on his way. He made it back through the Lost Jungle alright thanks to the help of his maps. The next steps were a completely new adventure waiting to be written.

From the Tangled Wood, Midrin travelled northeast to the Viridian Labyrinth, intending to reach Gladebough Village. To get there, though, he had to first go through the Shrieking Wilds. While Gaolers have excellent nightvison, it couldn't save him from the maze. Every trunk, vine, and bush quickly began to look the same, and he lost his orientation in the thick growth. Luckily, a resident of the labyrinth found him and led him to Clan Duneberry. Here Midrin discovered a bustling center of commerce hidden away near the base of the Behemoth. While primarily an agricultural settlement cultivating exotically rare and expensive fruits for export, there was also a surprising other half of the clan which built machines and various intricate technologies.

To Midrin, it would seem as if he'd hit the jackpot. Considering himself lucky for the good fortune, he used what money he'd earned from his previous venture to buy some new, valuable, stock. Machines and tech were surely in high demand in the Shifting Expanse, and the strange fruits were bound to interest any dragons he met on the road. Perhaps he would be penniless for the time being, but the investment would pay off quickly.

Some members of Clan Duneberry recommended he traveled along the already present trade route between its sister clans. Apparently there was a caravan leaving for the Clan of Howling Winds in the Cloudsong shortly. Midrin considered his options. The Windswept Plateau wasn't really where he was planning to go, but he was guaranteed the fruit sales there thanks to the established trade. Or he could strike off on his own, perhaps a higher risk but also higher reward. In the end he decided for a mix of both options. He'd follow the trade route to Howling Winds, but after that he'd break off and sell his other goods elsewhere. He was only an upstart after all, and needed some money to get him going; not to mention, the Windswept Plateau was a hub for travelers, so new opportunities should be easy to find. With that, he packed up and joined the group of travelers preparing to head off.

As Midrin apporached the new clan, he was greeted by a black and gold abberation. They weren't nessassarily the kindest to him, but they gave a hasty explanation. "There is currently a revolution going on here, come and go quickly to avoid getting hurt. I grant you passage but do not cause trouble."

Nervous, Midrin managed to sell some machines and fruit to the locals on the black on gold side platform. He wasn't allowed to enter the other Platform nearby. But overall he got a lot of sales. He got kites, bamboo stalks, tea, and mini hand-carved statues. He then left (for his safety) to another clan that a sliver wildclaw recommended.
