ChaiLatte has been working hard outside the Cave in her quest for purpose. She began her journey in a big coffeehouse in a big city as one of the baristas. This was no ordinary coffeehouse, however. That is, the drinks were not simply meant to help wake up the customers. The place made coffee to raise spirits, to temporarily heal ailments such as nausea or anxiety, and to boost health in general. That was why the Summerland Coffeehouse was known as the working dragon's clinic. She moved up through the ranks until she'd saved up enough to open her own cafe, which is called Chai-al and Error, a nod to the uncertainty of starting a business. Her cafe is affiliated with the Cave of Lost Souls, as she got her start under Calla's care. Her fellow Night Warriors are also back in the Cave waiting for her should she ever need their help, or they need hers. Nova in particular has shown interest in following her path instead of the one chosen by his parents.
Chai-al and Error is located in a unique town which is 70% water and populated mostly by water dragons, maren, and all manner of aquatic life. Chai employs all types in her business and looks only at the resumes when considering new applicants, never once looking at their faces until she's interviewing them. As long as they can make a decent cup of coffee, it doesn't matter who they are. In fact, it doesn't even matter that she does that. It should just be standard. We don't need to talk about how cool it is that we're accepting of all sorts. Yes great, you're doing so well for being a decent sapient being. You're doing the bare minimum. Raise your standards a bit and move on from it.

Darius
Darius is a tool monkey who uses enchanted fossils to navigate the change in pressure from the deep to the shallows. One day he wondered if he could use his tools to make something that would allow him to breathe on land. He was able to do it with some major finesse and spellcasting, plus some help from his clan, but realized once he'd made it to the surface that he still couldn't walk and that's when he started to draw a blank. In a shallow tide pool. Darius developed a way to speak above water alongside breathing. Eventually he was ready to start a new life on the surface and had everything he needed except transportation. So he stayed put and made tools for passerby who paid him in food. It wasn't what he wanted to do, but he wasn't sure what he wanted to do so it was the next best thing.
Chai met Darius while on a supply run and asked him why he was in a small pool when he could swim downstream and reach more customers. She showed him a route that he could take to reach the bigger river, so Darius packed up his things and switched streams. Now he's her favorite handymerm. Yes that's the word we're going to use in this and probably every instance. Deal with it.

Skye
Skye doesn't like crowds or loud noises. He prefers quiet time spent with close friends and will leave if a setting is too busy. Despite that, he enjoys his new job at the Chai-al and Error Coffeehouse. He's mostly responsible for quality control and inventory, so he works in the back unless his favorite customer Phoenix shows up, wherein he asks Chai to cast a sound-cancelling spell on him so he can stand being in the busy front of the house and talk to Nix.
Chai first met Skye in the market, or rather right outside it. He was standing just outside the bazaar, clearly wanting to go in but there was something holding him back. Chai ventured to ask what was wrong and after some coaxing he told her it was too loud for him. She used a spell to lower the background noise and make it so he only had to focus on sounds in his immediate vicinity and then walked with him to make sure the spell didn't backfire on him. They ended up going in the same direction and got to talking. Chai mentioned her coffeehouse and that she was hiring and Skye volunteered, elaborating that he could organize her ingredients and keep track of inventory and bookkeeping things like that, so she agreed to give him a shot.

Phoenix
Nix is the fifth child of the royal line with no interest in ever being anything or holding any power or responsibility. It was easy to sneak out of his palace and explore the rest of the world. One of his favorite places is the Chai-al and Error Coffeehouse, where he watches his favorite barista Skye and tips like a rich boy who doesn't know the value of currency.
Chai immediately noticed Skye's interest in the flashy new customer and encouraged him to come out and talk to him, and after some time he finally did. And now they're both out, and we're so happy for them.

Lorelei
Quick as the wind, Lorelei steals what she and her family need to survive. She's never known anything else. Once given an honest profession, however, she could pursue her true passion: dance. She works at the Chai-al and Error Coffeehouse as both barista and featured performer on special nights.


Snowflake got his start at the Summerland Coffeehouse specializing in cold brew. Once he'd learned all he wanted to, he left with Chai to help her start her own cafe.


Mallow, along with Snowflake, followed Chai when she set off to start her own business. She makes very interesting baked goods. They usually involve marshmallows, but she's been branching out lately. We hear she's been sneaking veggies into her brownies and no one has noticed yet. ...good job, but like are you okay?


Verdant has been harvesting and roasting coffee beans her entire life, but this is her first time working in a coffeehouse. Teamwork does not come easy to her, but she's trying her best.


Spinetooth is a jumpy royal in hiding trying to blend in with the commoners at the Chai-al and Error Coffeehouse as a barista. He's charming of course, so he blends in very well, but he lives in constant fear that his new friends will learn about his past and treat him differently.


Dirty Chai specializes in tea and will always make it dirty if requested--yikes relax that just means to add coffee. What did you think I meant?


Sunbutter is working at the coffeeshop while he writes his novel, but he's not ready to show it to any--DON'T READ OVER HIS SHOULDER!


Sunny is part of an exciting new part of Chai's business. They're going to branch out on weekend nights and serve adult drinks for responsible dragons who need to relax. Sunny has always wanted to be a bartender and she's ready to use the charisma she's gained as a barista to serve a new audience.


Autumn is a new hire at Chai-al and Error, still trying to figure out what she's supposed to do. She's quick with a joke and very cheerful to be around. While she cannot be trusted with the espresso machine, she's very good at in-between work that helps everyone else be at their most efficient. She seems to know when someone needs something and can fetch it for them. Maybe she used to be a server and server brain never really turns off.


Coffee might not be the chosen one, but she's easier to live with than Hero. She follows her parents around, trying to help. She's too young for her namesake so she usually helps mother Mallow bake things instead.

Coffee is convinced his special talent must be working in a coffeehouse so he applied to work at Chai-al and Error. Chai could see his earnestness and his diligence, but he lacked finesse and dexterity for an in-house position. After a few days watching him struggle and trying to figure out where he really shined, she finally decided he was meant to help out with supply runs. A big strong dragon like him could carry more than her bookkeeper, and it really wasn't fair to keep expecting Skye to make so many trips back and forth, no matter how much he insisted he didn't mind. Chai knew it wasn't sustainable and that he needed help, so she assigned Coffee to be Skye's muscle.
