The young Maize dragon ran through the halls behind the heels of his father, his tail lashing across the floor. "When will I get my name?" The older imperial sighed deeply as he was asked for the thousandth time. "When you are ready" his father mused. A roar of fire was heard across from the hatchery. "Again?" It was indeed again. The youngest hatchlings bore a unique gift. It was rather fiery and he didn't like it, his tail always getting scotched by them. Soon he would find his place and his name.

There are Avariels born with the echoes of the Elemental Plane of Air flowing through their veins. Branch is one of those dragons. Born in the Thistle Pretense tucked in the shadows. The imperial was quick to be taken to Waterdeep, raised amongst other members of his kind but never fully fitting in. Now he was an impatient thing, desperate for his name and desperate to prove himself. It was unfair that he had to wait for until his father was ready. There was more out there, so he ran away.

The imperial found himself in Arcane territory, home to all sorts of oddities like himself. It felt more natural to be here than to be in Waterdeep, and the imperial decided to stay here. No longer will he have to deal with the city. No longer would he have to be confined to his past. Now he would be free. The whispers of the wind enter his ears and bring his heart to wander. There was only one problem. He lacked a name. Out into the wild. There was a dream, and out there, his powerful magic surged through his runes.

One day, he found an older imperial. The older individual stared at him and asked for his name. When the maize dragon had no answers. He gave the abyss-colored fellow a prompt. Give him a name. The stranger seemed to hesitate, but eventually, gave him the name Branch. Branch soon parted ways with the other imperial, who he learned was called Incubore. Now he had a name and was going to prove to the world his skills.

As a smaller note, Branch is a gift given to me by @Micklanis, though I named him myself.

Avariels are children of the Elemental Plane of Air, guided by goddesses of the Sun and Moon. They are powerful mages and warriors known for their glass weaponry and wind-singing, and most importantly, the runic symbols that mark each of their clan. Helmed by Bright and Torrin, remarkable mages each in their own right and chosen by the gods, they've provided a safe haven for their family, and over time, have helped their line spread across Sornieth.

This family of dragons descends from Faith and Omen, an angel and a fallen angel who were cast out onto Sornieth and cursed to live as dragons for their crime of becoming romantically involved. This family tends to have few offspring-- the more greyscale they are, the less the curse seems to affect them!
