Nightgleam is the clan’s librarian who keeps an extremely expansive library. While it started out as his personal collection, it eventually blossomed into a full-blown public library accessible to every dragon. His library isn’t perfect by any means — and is it really possible to have a perfect library when new books are being written all the time? — but it does have enough reading material to keep most dragons satisfied. Well, most — his shelves are mainly stocked by fiction, so all he can do for his more academic-minded clanmates is shrug and point them to a scholarly library. But if all a dragon is looking for is a nice book to relax with, he’ll have something for them on his shelves.

The biggest problem Nightgleam’s library faces is his lack of a proper organizational system. Despite Cadfael’s pushiness about it, Nightgleam has repeatedly turned down the offer to install an electronic organizational system into his library. He likes to sort the books himself, to rifle through them to find what he’s looking for, to make dragons search for themselves and pick up any books that might catch their eye in the meantime. But sometimes, a dragon is in a hurry to find a specific book, and they will be frustrated by Nightgleam’s nonchalant shrug and suggestion to go check the shelves themselves.

The Hall of Records and Nightgleam’s library take a lot of inspiration from each other in terms of design and decoration, and the two areas are also close in terms of friendship. Nightgleam often stops by the Hall of Records to chat with Yecord and Luster, and they do the same, stopping by the library to see him. They are frequently exchanging notes about various clan events or publications, and the three of them have made their own little book club that meets in the library to discuss their latest reading choice.

Nightgleam had a mate once, although she has since left the clan to serve the Stormcatcher. Her only remaining presence in clan life is in Nightgleam’s memories, and in the form of their remaining daughter, Sadira. Sadira is a Stormchild, meaning she has a lot of extremely potent Lightning magic in her veins, and Nightgleam worries about her immensely. If Sadira had no one else to rely on, she could always come to her father, and he would do anything to protect her.
