Biography
Q I A N X U E Mountaineer Sempervirens paced. Cricket song and twilight did little to soothe his nerves. His long plumes swept the hardpacked trail that lead into the woods that skirted the clan's territory. They whispered against the leaves and he had to stop himself from twisting around to check for intruders. He swallowed hard; he had to remember, he was safe. He was here, he was safe. He was here, he was safe... A crunch. His ears pricked. The grass had begun to frost over in the later hours, this particular Winter was penetrating even the sun-soaked meadows of the Light Territory. Yet, the figure prowling across the grass looked perfectly at home. "Semper." Qian said, his soft voice at home amongst the wind-hushed leaves, "I am glad to see you, you look... well." It was a lie, Semper's feathers were dry and molting. Winter always welcomed the moult for his kind, but anxiety played a large part. His shed scales seemed to latch to the corner of his eyes and mouth. Qian gently raised his huge paw to scuff a small piece from his face, Semper only flinched for a moment but his friend didn't hesitate. "I am glad you're back and in one piece." Semper ruffled his plumes before raising his wings into a shaky hug, his breath was foggy as the night darkened. Qian frowned, "We must get you inside, its not good for your kind--" Semper furrowed his brow and cut him off,"Qian, do you have it?" Qian took an ornate pouch from his satchel and looped it onto Semper's neck. Semper could smell each herb and spice; cinnamon, stonecorn, moor thistle and a good amount of small dried winter's delight berries. "Relax. I would not forget you." He sighed, his tail uncoiled and his claws retracted from the dirt. His anti-anxiety tisane had been running dangerously low. The ingredients could only be sought out in the Ice Territory and that was too long of a flight for him nowadays. He could ask Tonka, or Neemias, or any number of dragons would have helped him. But he only trusted Qian to understand why he needed it so urgently. Thank the Flamecaller for the young Obelisk and his strange willingness to take on any favour, no matter how far out his way it took him. He spent the Autumn in the tundral trading post before taking to the Cloudscape Crags for solitude; he had never bothered him with questions as to why he felt the need to escape there, just as Qian had never asked about why he needed his ingredients so desperately. "Thank you, sincerely. Thank you." Semper hugged him, "I would fly out there myself, I really ought to but-- I just can't bear to leave this place..." "You need to stay where you are healing," Qian said gruffly, patting him on the back, "This lair is best for you, for me and for all of us. Even I cannot take Winter on the Screaming Peaks anymore, this is not weakness, it is wisdom." Semper smiled and nodded. Qian had such a warm face in spite of its nicks, scars and notched ears. He had spent many moons alongside him chasing out the shade across Sornieth. He was so much younger than himself, Semper thought, yet had retained all his nerves. "You must get inside, those feathers will not keep you warm out here." "I'm fine, I'm fine, stop cooing about me like an old man!" Semper huffed, "But if you insist, we'll get inside and make some tea." "Indeed," He said, holding his wing over Semper as it began to snow. |
