While many obelisks are plagued by the ominous feeling that something terrible is about to happen, Requiem feels this paranoia more acutely than most. The cursed jewels adorning his claws are certainly not helping, but he was on edge well before he put them on. Refusing to interact with the rest of the clan, he instead prowls around the lair's perimeter, ever vigilant.

His vigilance does pay off in time. He is the only dragon to notice the scouts that Hemlock sends out in advance of the great departure. Not knowing what to do, he ends up warning Anise, who is able to pass the knowledge along discreetly to other concerned parties. Knowing that the time for real conflict quickly approaches, many dragons are spurred into action, including Requiem in their plans whether he likes it or not. In some way, it comforts him to know he isn't the only dragon who understands the threat at hand.

Even so, he is the only dragon who fights with the intent to kill in their great battle. His relentless attacks are so fearsome that they are alone almost enough to turn the tide. However, his recklessness is also his downfall. When he gets close enough to Hemlock to strike a decisive blow, Hemlock absorbs the attack and a large part of Requiem's power along with it. Stunned and enfeebled, Requiem backs down, allowing their escape.

In the wake of the conflict, it takes him a long time to recover. He learns, for the first time, to rely on the other dragons around him. In particular, the services of a traveling healer named Pandora help him a lot. Perhaps more than her magic, though, it is her unwavering conviction that sees him through. They are mated for some time, but his violent tendencies ultimately prove incompatible with her pacifism. This is not at all a problem with his new mate.
