Rook is a powerful fortress knight, well-versed in a magical fighting technique that revolves around barriers. His skill with forcefields does not stop there: he also excels at setting up barriers around lairs and other important locations, preventing shade and other corruptions from infiltrating the space. He has been travelling the globe for some time, offering his services wherever they seem to be needed.

As soon as came close to the Polareis lair, he could sense that something is amiss. The haze of curses and corruption that swirled around the lair left him feeling weak and nauseated. Although he was hesitant about it, he decided in the end to attempt something he had never done before: rather than a shield, he began laying the foundation for a cage.

He toiled away on the enclosure for weeks, creating a barrier that solidifies with time, making it harder and harder to enter or exit the lair over time. But before the cage can reach it's full strength, a battle erupts in the lair. Hemlock has realized his interference, and is not about to allow Rook to stop his plans. The shield hampers the coatl's movement, and for a time, it seems like Meilyr and Bexelia will be able to stop him.

They don't manage it. The battle is lost, and the barrier shatters. Left in the wreckage of the haunted lair, Rook knows that his second attempt to entrap Hemlock will not be so easy. He knows, too, that this second attempt will be his last chance, for better or for worse. Fortunately, an old friend shows up to help.
