Meilyr has been beset by visions since a young age. Plagued with the knowledge that something terrible approaches, Meilyr trained tirelessly, determined to be ready to protect her weak clan from the oncoming threat, whether it comes from outside or within their own numbers. Her dedication was not widely appreciated, the coatl nobility generally confused by her. She became an outcast among the very dragons she sought to protect, and yet, she does not question her mission.

As soon as Venia's son Hemlock was born, her nightly visions came to a stop. Feeling lost without their guidance, Meilyr was unsure what to believe for a brief period of time. It quickly became clear to her that Hemlock himself was the evil that her visions warned of. She attempted to rally the rest of the clan against him, but already an outcast herself, there were few who believed her until he began to show his true colors.

When Hemlock influences Cilla to move the clan to a new location near the Forbidden Portal, more dragons begin to question him. Latching onto their uncertainty, Meilyr begins to form a coalition of dragons, united against their shared enemy. She is frustrated to find that while many dragons are willing to join her against the clan's rulers, a number among them are doing so for their own selfish motives, and not because they trust or even believe Meilyr about the threat.

As she grows into a leader of resistance against Hemlock's forces, Meilyr becomes more confident, but more cynical as well. Having the same dragons who once ignored her now vying to get on her good side shows her the shallowness of their interactions, with her and with each other. After a string of strained relationships, she comes to rest with Kreios, hoping that his youthful trust and optimism might rub off on her.
