| xx | A past king, a fallen god, a helpless hatchling... In life, Icarus was a mortal king presiding over a vast land and great people. He was kind and wise to those who came for aid or advice, and he ascended to the heavens for his hundred great deeds. For a time, he was a merciful and gracious god. His once-subjects became his first worshipers and spread his story far and wide to grow his religion, but the same prayers that fed and fueled him eventually began to corrupt him. Driven mad with his new thirst for power, his graciousness gave way to greed and cruelty. He demanded more and more, eventually asking beyond what his worshipers could give. |
| xx | Having made a friend in a very high place, namely the Highest Council of the Gods, Anax ensured Icarus' behavior was swept under the rug for many centuries. The Nocturne burned through worshipers like flame in a dry forest, demanding more than any mortal could provide, and his hunger for more grew every day. More power, more devotion, more believers, more everything. Icarus began to feed on his believers' very life essences, draining them entirely to further his own powers. Eventually, his greediness could no longer be hid. Disgusted and shocked, the Highest Council of the Gods' Realm gathered and held trial for his punishment. One of Icarus' most notable traits was his silver tongue, and he nearly succeeded in talking himself back into their good graces, but in the end it was decided to cast him out. Icarus was stripped of his godhood and banished back to the mortal realm. |

To add insult to injury, Icarus awoke in the weak form of a frail hatchling. Defenseless and alone in the world, the only thing he could do was cry out. A passing wood-witch named Pumpkaboo heard him, and quickly took him in. She was surprised to learn he was a fallen god, but not very intimidated and decided to raise him. Icarus had no one else to turn to and at first only put up with her out of necessity, absolutely loathing being babied and coddled, but eventually he came to care for the old witch and her thoughts in his own way. When the familiar form of his old friend Starlight stumbled across them, he learned many of his followers and allies among the gods had been cast out as well, and the Emperor God Taji had ordered a Great Rescinding. The gods were no longer permitted within the mortal realm or allowed to show themselves to mortals, even to their greatest believers. Icarus still yearned for power, and now desired revenge as well. Using the Great Rescinding to his advantage, he hatched a plan to gather all the fallen gods to take his fight to the heavens and reclaim what had been theirs. |
