Biography

Rainë
↠ he / they
↠ Clan Progenitor | Insect-Keeper

Rainë is the clan's progenitor. Not many dragons know that he even lives at the lair, let alone that he is the progen. To those that know him, he is just a playful Fae who spends his days planting insect-attracting flowers and tending to his butterflies.
____Rainë raises butterflies in the clan's greenhouses, which are the oldest buildings in the lair. Though he is very quiet and usually keeps to himself, he has one close friend; Vilviren. Vilviren is the clan's gentlest Wildclaw, and works with Rainë in the greenhouses, tending to the plants and butterflies. Rainë loves Vilviren's quiet, gentle demeanour, not to mention his butterfly wings...

Family

__._ ____Rainë's five hatchlings all left home to travel Sorneith and ultimately went on to serve various deities. Neleh and Lexi went on to serve the Gladekeeper and Windsinger respectively. Their mother was Lael, the other clan progenitor, who is currently serving under the Arcanist. Infectant and the two Sparkles (all whom serve the Tidelord) were hatched to Sorsa, a Nocturne who spend a brief amount of time in the clan before departing to travel before serving the Shadowbinder.
____Rainë considers the clan his family, and so does not long for these departed relatives. He does hope to see Lael again, and he thinks she would like the Greenhouses. His days of nesting are behind him, however, and he is quite content with Vilviren and his butterflies.
___

First Meeting

__._ Rainë was curled up in his gleaming nest of tree-sap, listening intently to the sound of something large pacing at the base of his tree. There were rarely threats that encroached on the lair, let alone ones that came to the isolated Greenhouses.
____Too isolated, Rainë noted nervously. He was the only one who lived here, in the Greenhouses that were greenhouses in only in name. Shattered glass reflected tangled trees and wild undergrowth. Ivy twisted up empty rusted frames and rocks tumbled from the crumbling cliffs’ edge with every gust of wind.
____But Rainë had high hopes for the space. Others had followed him to the lair and were beginning to make other structures throughout. He was chipping away at the greenhouses slowly, tidying a little here and there each day. Soon he would have someone else to help him, he felt sure.
____The sound of something striking his tree reminded Raine that he should probably focus on the immediate future if he ever wanted to see a flourishing clan. Slowly, carefully, soundlessly as possible, Rainë peered out of his nest, and saw a Wildclaw, pacing back and forth before his tree. His tail would strike the tree with each turn, but he seemed too restless to notice.
____Rainë wasn’t sure if the Wildclaw knew he was here and was trying to scare him out (even the most vicious Wildclaws don’t eat other dragons… right?) or if he hadn’t even realised he wasn’t alone.
____The Wildclaw paused in his step and sunk to the ground with a sigh, swishing his tail back and forth, looking rather distressed. His wings were fanned out on either side of his body, bearing a delicate butterfly-like pattern. Rainë was mesmerised.
____The Wildclaw sighed again and looked up suddenly, eyes widening when he met Rainë's gaze.
____”AAAH!” The Wildclaw let out a shriek, jumping away from the tree whilst Rainë retreated back into his nest with a fright.
____“W-w-who are you??” The Wildclaw demanded shakily. When Rainë didn’t emerge, his tone softened. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.”
____Raine emerged slowly, squinting suspiciously.
____”I didn’t expect to there to be anyone out here,” the Wildclaw said, taking a cautious step toward the tree. “Are you out here alone? Are you lost, little one?”
____”Little one”????
____Rainë was the oldest dragon of his clan, though admittedly the smallest. In fact, he was smaller than most of the clan’s hatchlings, but he tried not to dwell on that. Regardless, being called “little one” by this young and sulky stranger made him seethe.
____The Wildclaw unsurprisingly couldn’t read his expression. “Don’t worry, I can help you find your parents!”
____”I’m not a kid!” Rainë wished he had a less childish retort but continued. “Who are you? Why are you crying under my tree?”
____”I- I wasn’t crying! I was just… um. Well, I’m Vilviren.”
____”Where are you from?” Rainë asked flatly. “Where are your parents?”
____”I’m old enough to be out on my own!” Vilviren seemed to deflate as he said this, however. “I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to call you a kid,” he snuck a curious glance at the Fae. “But you’re really not a hatchling…? You’re-“
“Have you never met a Fae before?” Rainë asked icily, emerging from his nest and unfurling his wings, as as though he could somehow prove that he was bigger than Vilviren had assumed. Though his body was small, he still had an impressive wingspan.
____However, the Wildclaw seemed delighted by Rainë. “Cute!”
____“…”
____”Ah, no! Not 'cute', as such, I just mean-“
____”You should go back home,” Rainë said.
____”This is my home!” Vilviren asserted. “I just moved here. I was recruited to be a part of the Guard, in the Outskirts.”
____That would be why Rainë hadn’t seen him. The Outskirts dragons tended to keep to themselves, spending their days training or fighting or… whatever clan guards do. This distressed Wildclaw didn’t fit the picture Raine had constructed of the vicious Guards.
____Vilviren continued, “Only… I don’t think I’m cut out for that kind of stuff.”
____”What kind of stuff?”
____”Hurting other dragons, or even the hunting and fighting each other and stuff. I don’t get why we have to hurt others.”
There was silence between them for a few moments, as Vilviren gazed sadly at the ground and Rainë gazed curiously at his expression.
____Finally Rainë said, ”Okay, then stay here.”
____Vilviren stared at him blankly.
____”You could stay here, with me. If you want. I need help fixing up the Greenhouses. Then we can grow food. Maybe tend insects. Then you can still help out the clan, without hurting anyone.”
____Vilviren continued to stare for a few moments after Rainë finished speaking, and then began to tremble. Just as Rainë began to panic, Vilviren began to nod furiously.
____”Yes! Please! If you’ll take me, I will help! I’ll be the best helper ever!”
____”Calm down,” Rainë instructed. “I’m not going to kick you out if you want to stay, just… stop crying.”
____”I’m not crying,” Vilviren said tearfully. “Oh, and what is your name? You didn’t tell me before.”
____”I’m Rainë.”
____”Well, it’s nice to meet you, Rainë!”
____”Mhm.”

The reason why not many dragons know that Rainë lives in the lair is because he is barely there in the first place. If he's not in the greenhouses, Rainë is probably at the forests nearby the clan boundaries, fluttering around and playing with the butterflies. He'd leave the grounds very early in the morning to explore the forests, and come back quite late into the night.
