Biography

TEARS OF PEARLS
Carrier of Many Burdens

Uh-oh, looks like this supportive Guardian wandered a little too far from her home lair ( Strangeflesh, 576542), and now she's off to see the world! If you ever feel the urge to exalt, she'd really appreciate it if you could just return her home instead, or to the 'Dragons Off to See the World' thread. If you don't want another traveler in return, you can also drop her off at the Traveling Dragon Rest Hub!

Pearls developed an Atlas personality as a result of the fallout between her parents. Because she had to provide emotional support to her grief-stricken mother while simultaneously single-handedly raising her siblings, she quashes her own emotions so that she can be a strong, comforting presence. A lifetime of putting her own needs and feelings to the side has resulted in Pearls being completely unable to express negative emotions.

Pearls wants to travel Sornieth to bring her love and comforting nature to other clans, and hopefully, receive training to become a therapist. But as of now providing a shoulder for others to cry on is the most she can do.

Pearls prefers to be called Tears, Pearls, or her full name, Tears of Pearls.

As Pearls was flying overland, a storm came up. She crash-landed near the border of the Scarred Wasteland and the Tangled Wood, not far from a clan - where she unexpectedly met her long-lost brother, SantaMonica!

In fact, she met a number of her distant relatives: Lipservice, CircusTent, PidgeonsOnEdge, BurntCake, Craterbracken, OmensOfDesire, GrimRaver, WatermelonSeeds, AppleFuzz, HotDogWater, Dreamland, and TomNoodle. The little family reunion was quite exciting, though a little overwhelming.

Thus Pearls decided to move on, though she was comforted to know that her brother would be there should she return, for he had decided to start working at the Travellers' Lodge. He gave her a birdskull necklace as a memento before she left.

While travelling, Tears came across a strange Wildclaw walking all on his own. He seemed a little absentminded and lonely, so she chose to travel with him in an attempt to cheer him.

C7RxMJF.png

Tears found herself staying with a small clan in Dragonhome. After a while and several conversations, she put together that several of the clan members were her distant cousins! It was lovely to connect with her extended family, and the time with her cousins helped to rejuvenate her. When it was time for her to set off once again she did so with a spring in her step.

Tears remained in Earth territory, this time with a clan in the Cairnestone Rest. Socializing with its members, she met a very special Guardian named Razor.

This sparkly spectre enchanted her with his gentle, easy-going nature. Though she had no intention of becoming a mother, given her family history, one thing led to another... and the pair of them were parents to four young ones.

Tears insisted that she stay in the clan so that she could ensure her children found good places to live, but once that was done, she felt that she must move on.

Pearls' travels returned her home. She reunited with her mother and was surprised at how happy and emotionally stable she was: it was clear that she had done a lot of healing on her own.

Pearls was so proud of her.

She ignored the other emotions that she could not name, instead focusing on wooing a fascinating Ridgeback - Sulfate, an enchanted statue carved from obsidian and given life through magic. Despite his inorganic nature, they managed to raise a nest together.

Tears traveled to the Sunbeam Lanternhouse, and the attentive hospitality of its residents stirred emotions in her that she did not know how to identify or manage. After all, she was the one who was supposed to be caring for others.

She began to rebuff everyone's attempts to be friendly towards her.

Wildberry, however, would not leave her alone. It seemed he'd gotten it into his head that he had to make her laugh and take life less seriously.

Privately, she thought he was right, that she took life far too seriously. But instead of his words being a catalyst for change, they only made her feel... bad. She couldn't articulate the feelings his words provoked, only that they were huge. They left her asking How else was she supposed to behave?

She felt an obligation to have a nest with him, but that turned out to be a mistake: she learned too late that he was also a descendant of Gengyar. Their children were a transgression. She drove Wildberry away, left their children to be raised by Keahi, and retreated from everyone.

She fell into a deep depression.

It took some time before she would even consider talking to Gemma, but the Snapper was patient with her. And they started with Tears' "easy" desire, that long-buried ambition to become a therapist, instead of beginning by tackling her hatchlinghood trauma.

Slowly, over the course of months, Gemma introduced her to the negative emotions - anger, jealousy, shame - that she had not been able to identify or manage for her whole life. Their sessions together did not always go well, and many times, Tears became frustrated with herself. (And just because she could now identify frustration didn't always make it easier to manage.) But Gemma always reminded her why she had agreed to therapy: if she wanted to help others as a therapist, first she had to help herself manage her own emotions.

It was slow going. And Gemma pointed out, gently, that it would take a lifetime to become truly proficient at managing her emotions and letting go of negative thoughts.

But she had taken the first step towards a life worth living.

Unfortunately, the two had to separate eventually and Pearls was left with her own devices once again. Traversing through Sornieth's lands on her own was relaxing in a way, but also often harsh. One's thoughts cannot be shut down just by your own free will and she ended up analysing life's choices and bonds she made and broke along the way.

The skulls around her neck made a hollow sound as they connected and she found it relaxing. She wondered if she'll see her brother again.

Tears of Pearls stopped for a time at Chattar, a strange land just outside the Hewn City. There, she met a rather unusual spiral called Gwenyth. Tears of Pearls was drawn to him, though the reasons were not very proud. See, Gwenyth is a kindly, bumbling, thief. His clan's buffoon. Pearls was convinced that there was something else going on with him. She was eager to be distracted from her own issues.

So she spent days chatting with him, trying to correct his behaviour. There was familiarity in trying to fix other's problems. It was more comfortable than sitting with her own.

Not her brightest moment, she and Gwenyth had a nest together. Two hatchlings they cared for together. Gwenyth was a fun parent, but not exactly responsible. Pearls was used to being the only one being responsible, anyways.

She cared for the young (and Gwenyth) and found loving homes for the new young. Gwenyth tried to convince her to stay, but by now Tears had learnt that he was never going to change. He was a bandaid for the emotions brought out by Gemma, a distraction. She wrapped her wings around him in farewell, Gwenyth wrapped his spiral body around her in embrace.

She left, amicably. Gwenyth didn't seem too heartbroken - he didn't take life too seriously. And Pearls had learnt her lesson. No one changes unless they want to. As she returned to her journey, she had to ask herself: did she want to change? Or was she happy the way she was? What happened if she sat with the emotions Gemma taught her about?

Tears traveled to the plaguelands following a strange looking bird across the rotten sky, as she had nothing better to with sad life, and when it landed, it transformed into a strange looking dragon. She was shocked by this, and approached him slowly. This shocked her, and she slowly walked up to him, his scent as sharp and sweet as the transition from spring to summer.

He was dressed in red and gold, burning with a fear that few people understand, and the light is icy against his bloody wounds.
"Hello? What are you?" She asked as she approached the strange thing.
"I am…Who am I? No, no, no, no. Csakan. I am Csakan."
"You can change shape? How? That seems very useful."

He paused, sadness leaking though his mask.

"It a curse. Every time I change forms, my true self shrivels. The more I do, the more temptation to do so consumes me."
"That's rather awful. Can I comfort you?"

Csakan slept under her wing all night until the red-blushed morning, where they both went on their own ways.

After parting with Csakan, TearsofPearls continued deeper into the plaguelands. During a terrible storm, she met a young coatl who introduced herself as Sweetheart. Sweetheart offered to let Pearls stay in her den for a while, and although Pearls felt deeply wrong accepting such a grand gesture, it was risky to stay out in the acid rain of the plaguelands.

Like Tears, Sweetheart was all about giving, although she was far more lighthearted than the older dragon. Still, Tears found herself falling into a natural friendship. TearsofPearls felt a mentorly, almost motherly feeling towards the young Sweetheart, and felt inspired to encourage her to be the best person she can be. She told the young dragon all about her travels - omitting the more painful bits, to be sure - and Sweetheart was starstruck with the idea of traveling the land to help others. They had many conversations together, both deep and silly, and the two became quite close during their time together.

One day, Sweetheart presented her with a batch of cupcakes decorated with fondant pearls, as thanks for being her friend. TearsofPearls felt incredibly conflicted. She was touched by the gesture, of course, but she felt awful that she had not prepared a gift in return, and she was always bad at accepting things from others. Still, she found it in herself to swallow her pride and express her gratitude, fighting the same instinct to rebuff her that she had when they had first met.

Still, Tears had mixed feelings about her friendship with Sweetheart. It was an easy friendship, but this gift made Pearls realize how much Sweetheart cared about her, and although Tears didn't realize it herself, the thought of being so close to someone else still scared her. And so, Tears told Sweetheart that she had to continue her travels and bade her farewell, but not before giving her a heartfelt hug and telling her to keep in touch. Although Sweetheart wasn't ready for such a deep friendship, she still cared about Sweetheart, and hoped that she would succeed in her own goals.

Soon Tears found herself in a very cold place. Surrounded by icebergs Tears felt so alone. Then a patrol of dragons from a place called FrostyClan found her and brought her to their village. Soon she realised this was a place of warmth in the freezing tundra. She met many dragons but one stood out to her, a Gaurdian named Walkersea he seemed to have the same habit as she did. Suppressing his emotions. Their only difference was what they were looking for, he was looking for a long-term love and she was looking to console those around her. Slowly she became attracted to him, after a while she confessed this. Tears wasn’t expecting what came next, Walkersea rejected her. Telling her he knew she wasn’t for the kind of commitment he was looking for. Tears was bother hurt and relieved by this. She knew where he was coming from, he understood she was afraid of commitment and that was exactly what he was looking for. The only thing more she wished she had found was someone to help her learn to console and handle her own emotion.
