 Like her mate Warstruck, Battleborn is a spirit of fate and battle, a celestial creature who descends to Sornieth to influence the affairs of mortals. Unlike Warstruck, however, she does not create conflict; rather, her interest is in the individuals who shape it. Battleborn chooses and watches over the heroes and villains of war, the exceptional individuals who may personally turn the tide of battle.

While Warstruck is detached and disinterested in the conflicts he creates, Battleborn grows considerably invested in those individuals whose lives she's chosen to influence, often paying them more attention than she does her own children, whose care she leaves to Warstruck and to Xever. She does not, however, grieve when their courage leads to death, as it so often does. Rather, she considers such cases a success, weighing only the glory her chosen earned in their short lives, not the prospect that they might have had longer ones. Her true disappointment comes not when a would-be hero dies but when they die in obscurity, without achieving fame and renown.

Her mate prefers to remain an invisible hand in matters, but Battleborn often shows herself to her chosen heroes, openly guiding them on their path to glory. Her favorites are those who, like herself, would choose fame and fortune over a long, peaceful life. When she deals with individuals who want peace but find themselves called to war against their will, she finds something strange about them, something that she -- with no principles or home to defend -- cannot fully understand. It leaves her unsettled, sometimes, but never really ruffles her feathers.

After all, war is inevitable, isn't it? It's all written in the stars.
