Two spirits of war and fate, Warstruck and Battleborn watch over the conflicts written in the stars and the individuals destined to figure in them. Their children are also spirits of battle, sent out to quietly influence mayhem and slaughter across Sornieth. Daisyfall presides over arguably the worst aspect of war -- the breaking of peace. When a feast turns to backstabbing, Daisyfall is there. When the horns of war interrupt children's play, Daisyfall is there. Does she take satisfaction in such moments? She won't say. But she cannot help watching them, over and over again, as they repeat in the tides of war. She arrived in the Astral Oceans clan like a shadow. There was no fire or clashing of blades in her wake, she was simply there one day, sitting calmly amidst the bustle of the outpost. But the clan knew exactly what her quiet presence meant. The End of Peace herself, among them? It was an omen. The clan braced itself for the worst. Then days passed. Weeks. Daisyfall seemed right at home in the lair, chatting with passers-by and resting under the eaves of the clan’s central hall. A visitor could have mistaken her for a patron spirit of the Astral Oceans clan. Finally, the ever-bold Scarlet got tired of waiting and opted to just ask the war spirit why she was here. Daisyfall tilted her head and gave a not-quite-smile. “Not yet.” And so the clan learned to live in her shadow. Swords stayed sharpened and breath readied, but life went on. Adeline and Macaron offered Daisyfall a room in the back of their cafe, and to their surprise, she accepted. During the day, she can usually be found sitting at the counter, watching people come and go. She doesn’t talk very much, but she likes listening to people talk about themselves and their lives. To witness is her purpose, after all, and it’s a nice change of pace to witness the calm before it shatters. The clan’s leaders are always vigilant around Daisyfall. Those who have been with the Astral Oceans clan from the beginning know exactly how fragile their position is. How many powerful entities would be delighted to see them wiped out. And the longer Daisyfall is content to wait, the worse the coming war is to be. Every time the clan butts heads with its neighbors, Elena and Shatter hold their breath and wonder if this is finally what will bring their peace crashing down around them. But Daisyfall has found a place among the clan’s younger members. To those with the enthusiasm of youth, she is a gentle and encouraging presence all too eager to listen to their latest accomplishments. And odd as it may seem, the feeling is mutual. War is rarely loved, but listening to Cecelia recount her latest voyages or Pyre discuss his current forging project, Daisyfall has the rare chance to feel like a part of a community. When the storm comes, she hopes, despite herself, that the clan will pull through. |
