Biography

Eldest son of Saleir and Russanol, Caranthir was aware enough while still in his egg to feel as he was abandoned in the Emberglow Hearth. As such, most of his youth was plagued by the fear that his wind-parents would see his flaws and abandon him as well. So he struggled to be the perfect wind dragon, without knowing how beyond rumors and what he saw others do. He didn't know finding his egg was what had finally brought Saleir out of the depression that followed her daughters' departure. So, when Rusandol cautiously approached him, asking if he wanted to leave home and wander, he took it as a hint and reluctantly agreed.

But he didn't want to go far, and couldn't bring himself to venture into the Ashfall Waste that had clutched him. So he followed the chill of winter to the Southern Icefield, and stayed awhile with a clan in the Snowsquall Tundra. There he let a beautiful guardian woo him, and sat guard with her by their nest. But their union was a temporary one, and she told him to take the unwanted second child and be on his way. Shaken, the mirror took his son to the only sanctuary he could think of, head bowed, and was surprised by the overjoyed welcome his wind-parents gave them.

Since then, Caranthir has realized the changing winds don't always mean partings, and that Wind Dragons are as enthralled by metalcraft as they are fine kites. The fire drake now spends his times forging objects of beauty for treasure or trade, and sturdy supports or armor for his clan, happier in his skin than he would ever have though as a teen. And if he's his mother's favorite, well, at least he knows it now.

Note: found by scavenging.

While digging for ore, Caranthir pulled a Chimera out of the ground. He blinked at it and it stared at him in confusion.
