An egg found deep in the Reedcliff Ascent where the bamboo forests whisper and non Wind dragons dare not tread. He was brought back to an ancient Wind clan in the middle of the Cloudsong flotilla and they waited for him to hatch. And they waited. And they waited. And they waited. He did it hatch. His egg had stayed unhatched for decades and all the while a rumor grew around it. Why wouldn’t a Wind egg hatch in a nest? Why was it so special? Was it a progenitor egg? Was it a special dragon to the Windsinger?

Eventually a powerful Seer was called to look at the egg and they peered at the egg like a crystal ball for a long time, trying to divine what it was, why it hadn’t hatched. Eventually it was divined to barely be a dragon at all. It was a Shard. A Shard from the Pillar of the World that had fallen to Sorienth and because of the powerful magic of the Ascent was brought into an egg that was meant possibly meant to be a progenitor. Shards weren’t unknown but they were extremely rare and had a similar power ability to progenitors and were a type of demi god in their own right.

The egg was stolen and through a series of mishaps ended up in the hands of some very bad bandits. As in. They weren’t the best bandits. Under their watch the egg hatched and Najaïr was born. When the bandits tried to return the Fragment to the ancient Wind clan for a reward they found out quite unfortunately that they would get their reward but they were stuck with the hatchling.

Reluctantly the bandits raised Najaïr and despite them he grew up to be a soft young dragon who sometimes had visions of things he couldn’t explain. Until one day he had a dream of a girl out in the Steppe near death and he knew if he didn’t find her he’d never forgive himself. So despite his guardians’ insistances he left and raced to find her.

And he did. He found Layali. Upon seeing her for the first time he knew she was his Charge. He dedicated himself to her immediately and after nursing her back to health returned with her to her clan Cypress Hall.
