Biography
Radinen
Although the gardening team in the Clan of the Striking Bolt has grown immensely from its origins, none of its current members can deny that the gardens would be nothing without Radinen. He was the first clan member to invest enough energy and interest into growing plants within Electrician’s Edge rather than foraging elsewhere, and the gardens have sprouted from his ambitions.
He had a rough start, as anyone would trying to grow edible plants in the desert. But he was determined to make his ideas work, and with help from lead forager Aibrean, who had seen plants grow in all sorts of conditions, he built a garden with revolutionary techniques that would allow plants of all sorts to flourish in the Shifting Expanse.
Slowly, over the years, his garden expanded, and so did his gardening team. It started with Quinlan, who would later become his mate, joining his gardening exploits, and then their adoptive son Kholin took up the task as well. Then the coral farmers came, and the gardening team kept expanding from there.
Radinen is now more or less the authority on gardening within the clan. Although any of the gardeners would be happy to answer questions about their gardening exploits, Radinen knows the most about these particular gardens and the techniques he’s cultivated to encourage plant growth. He’s rarely seen outside of the gardens, and is constantly fluttering around to check on every part of the growth process. Even as other gardeners have assumed more narrow roles in managing the garden, Radinen prefers to double-check their results for himself. For example, if Spice reports the soil quality as good, Radinen is more than likely to double back and run his own tests to confirm it.
He’s not anxious or paranoid, though; just concerned and invested in being accurate. He’s actually very mild-mannered and polite, and kind and patient. He likes talking about his work, especially to young hatchlings who haven’t witnessed gardening and the origins of their food before. However, he is more than happy to explain his work to anybody who asks — although he may forget who he’s speaking to and assume a tone more fitting for very young hatchlings.
