Biography
–Saturn–
|
For generations, Saturn’s family were practitioners of dark magic. He learned more of these dark arts in his childhood than most would encounter in a lifetime. It came easily to him, as his father assured him was his birthright. Saturn never cared for these skills, this way of life. He was not close to his parents; his father obsessed with his magic, his mother always distant. When his father insisted it was time Saturn begin his formal apprenticeship, Saturn left. He didn’t confront his father. He nodded along to his speech on tradition, and power. Then, in the dark of night, Saturn packed his things. While the clan slept, he fled. With no home, no plans, nothing but the possessions he could carry, Saturn wandered the Scarred Wasteland. When eventually he reached the border, he crossed into the Starfall Isles. Tucked away on the border of the Crystalspine Reaches, Saturn encountered a dilapidated old castle. In it lived a small clan. They offered him a place to stay, for as long as he needed it, and asked no questions about his past. Desperate for somewhere to rest, Saturn stayed. Saturn struggled to adjust to the unfamiliar dragons. At first, he spent most of his time alone, hiding in dark nooks, or pacing the overgrown gardens. After time, he took to spending time with a pretty nocturne named Glimmer, who happily let him sit in silence as she worked on her paintings. Or not her paintings, rather, but old paintings she was restoring. Bringing them back to their previous beauty. Saturn had not encountered much art before. He found it fascinating. When Saturn, haltingly, explained this to Lizbet, she loaned him several books on art history she thought might interest him. They were interesting. But, more than that, when Saturn realised he might want to talk to Glimmer, actually, they gave him something he could talk to her about. He and Glimmer grew closer. They discussed art history, and how to strip away varnish without damaging the painting beneath. Glimmer drew his portrait, and taught him how to paint. He began opening up to the other dragons. He left Incandescence, and Primrose in awe of the gruesome tales he could tell. Majolica, and Aurum always wanted to hear more about life within a Quarantine Zone in the Scarred Wasteland. He helped Ariel, and Lizbet dig up what little history could be found on the portraits Glimmer was restoring. The clan began to feel like family. Eventually, he and Glimmer began a family of their own, free from dark magic.
