Biography

LEpJMnn.png5BsilZ9.pngmtHAEL4.png

A former traveller from the "Dragons Off to See the World" thread, Ebony has since found a permanent home the second time she arrived in Crow Callers.

Ebony is a very long-standing member of my clan, and some of her lore was even written by a friend of mine during her stay in their own lair. She means a lot to me, so I ask that you please respect my wishes and do not sell or exalt her. If you have received her through the AH by mistake, I'll pay whatever fodder fee you paid to get her back! -Volrin

Biography:

As a daughter of the shy Nocturne witch, Taffy, Ebony has a great fondness for the dark that's unusual for her breed. She spends as little time out in the sunlight as possible, choosing instead to dwell in the darkest corners of the den and use the light from her runes to illuminate her books. She is incredibly well-read and heavily immersed in the history of Sornieth and the flights, but in a classic example of book smarts versus street smarts, she has a lot of trouble outside of the den due to her lack of experience in the real world.

Despite her docile nature and outright timidness, Ebony greatly enjoys reading to the hatchlings of the clan, teaching them to use their imaginations. Unnaturally for a dragon of the Light flight, she has a much greater interest in fictional works than she does in ancient writings. She even writes some fairy tales of her own, and hopes to make it her career someday!

She's recently decided to take to the road with her fairytales, and become a travelling storyteller so she can bring the joy of her works to other hatchlings from other clans. She also hopes that this adventure will teach her something about life outside of the den, and get her out of her timid shell somewhat; who knows, maybe she'll even reunite with her travelling mother during her adventure!

Travel Log:

Volrin (Memories of An Old Friend): "Shyme had a wonderful time during her visit to the Sunbeam Ruins! She stayed with a clan in the Hewn City, who lived in a large temple made from nearly opalescent marble, and while she was there she made great friends with a dark blue Skydancer named Ebony. Ebony was a masterful story-teller with a vivid imagination, and had taken the role of reading her own stories to the clan's hatchlings. She was very interested in Shyme's artistry, and over the next few days, worked with the Spiral to fully illustrate one of her storybooks!

As payment for her work, Ebony gifted her new friend a very expensive-looking golden necklace. To this day, it serves Shyme as a fond memento of her stay in that clan as it shimmers and gleams in the sunlight."

Ashrahn: Ebony resided within the Starwood Strand on the Starfall Isles for quite some time. She became an apprentice to a Nocturne witch. Shadeset sensed her lineage when she met Ebony and quickly invited her to the darkened forests with her and those like her. When not doing apprentice work, Ebb regaled the Shadow-touched hatchlings with stories and fairy tales.

From Shadeset she learned many Shadow spells, and how to weave Shadow into Wind spells for differing effects. The Nocturne sent Ebony on her way with many books and supplies, and a promise she is always welcome back at the Starwood Strand.

Sharing Fire

A favorite among hatchlings!

"In the early days of dragonkind, when our territories were still being chosen by the gods, the elements shifted all over this land. Water washed over Plague, Wind blew across Ice, and Shadow infiltrated Arcane. When the gods chose their lands, this became steady of course. We all had our own element for many years.

Dragons tried to keep their elements to themselves. They fought terrible battles and wanted more land. Each element had its own special belonging. This tale is about that of Fire. Fire dragons were the only ones able to breathe fire once upon a time. This was the gift of their goddess. It was a secret protected by the Fire dragons because it gave an advantage over the rest of dragonkind.

Other dragons wanted fire. Without it, they had no way to cook their meals or forge armor. Fire dragons did not want to give up their secrets. Many battles happened over the fire. No outsider was able to get to the secret.

One day a group of dragons approached the volcano where the Fire dragons lived. They had no weapons and came in peace. This was new to the Fire dragons. Other dragons only ever came to fight. The new dragons were let into their lair. They told the Fire dragons about their plight. They came from a faraway land and had no way to cook food. Their armor was broken and could not be mended.

The Fire dragons heard their plea. This was the first time any dragon simply asked for their fire, not demanded their fire be given. They found it in their hearts to let the outsiders learn how to produce fire. They made agreements with other dragons to trade secrets. Slowly the fighting stopped.

When we fight, we only hurt all those around us. We all have different elements but we have to remember that we all are dragons, just the same. Many dragons have aspects of a lot of different elements, and when dealing with them we should remember the lessons of the fire sharing. We all are dragons, and should treat each other with kindness."

KingVulture: Ebony arrived at the border of the Scarred Wasteland and Tangled Wood, looking around at everything there was to see. When she explained that she was travelling, she was led to a lodge she'd be staying at.

After meeting some travellers and employees alike at the lodge, Ebony started telling a few stories about her travels. When asked if Ebony would like to stay in the clan permanently, she politely declined, saying that she had a clan to return home to. However, she appreciated the offer - she definitely planned to return to Crow Callers, and possibly stay should her home clan ever reject her.

LavenderDeer: Ebony had arrived at The Amaranth clan, another clan within the Starfall Isles. When she arrived at The Amaranth clan, it was a typical day. The sun was shining bright (which Ebony disliked very much so), the Amaranth flowers were blooming and the air had that familiar floral smell. On top of this, she was greeted by many interesting characters and she truly felt welcomed. Although, she could tell something was off with the clan's Psychic Mincer who spoke to Ebony with a worried tone and a fretful expression. Ebony shrugged it off, however she then discovered something harrowing later...

She arrived at the Visitors Den and picked a spot for herself to relax in. She quickly became accustomed to her surroundings, after all, she had had many travels before. As she was settling into her new humble abode, the clan's Matriarch Belris greeted her suddenly. Ebony thought that perhaps she was in trouble, but then she remembered she had only just arrived and that as far as she knows she hadn't done anything wrong.

"Greetings traveler, my name is Belris, I am the leader of the Amaranth Clan". Belris spoke in that familiar deadpan Fae tone.

"Ebony, it's nice to meet you." Ebony replied with a confident disposition, but on the inside, she was slightly nervous.

Before Ebony could cut to small-talk, Belris abruptly responded. "My apologies if your time here will be unusual, our clan has just had a very strange and upsetting incident..."

Ebony became slightly intrigued, but she felt some empathy for the Fae (even though Belris seemed emotionless). "I'm sorry about that...is there a way I can help?" Ebony asked with compassion.

Belris shook her head sternly. "We do not know how to help ourselves. Two of our hatchlings in the nursery refuse to bond with their parents. Instead, they seem drawn to a hatchling, which mysteriously ended up here two days ago. Mincer who is the psychic for our clan had presented me information about a prophecy of some sort but I am unsure what this all means at this time". Belris explained whilst still keeping up that stoic tone. Ebony nodded her head in somewhat of an agreement, even though she didn't understand much of what Belris had said.

Suddenly, Belris had flown away. Ebony sat there in utter confusion. Was this real? Did that seriously just happen? Prophecy? Huh? She shook her head. After all, it was really none of her business. But if it wasn't her business, why did Belris tell her? She tried not to over-think things. Ebony decided to stay for a few weeks within the Visitors Den. She had even attempted to tell the hatchlings stories to try and socialize them with other dragons, but they didn't listen. This saddened her, but she knew that she could continue onto other clans where her stories would be appreciated more by the hatchlings there. She was disappointed that she had such a strange experience. Throughout her stay, she could sense tension around the issue. And with that thought, she left the Amaranth Clan.

DragonQueenJ: Ebony's visit to Jaguaria was short, but pleasant. She was greeted warmly, and she visited their library. She learned new tales and shared old ones. She made a few friends and saw Foxglove's laboratory. She told stories to hatchlings and legends to the Starwatchers. Overall, she was impressed, but it was soon time to leave. On her third day, she set out once more.

Volrin: During a brief respite in her home lair, Ebony met Saffron, a Wildclaw hatchling with the seemingly magical ability to draw or paint an image in the exact way he saw it. She took great interest in Saffron's artistry -- respectfully admiring it, not demanding it of him or belittling it like other dragons had done to him before. Meanwhile, the hatchling found himself thrilled by the fairytales she could spin as well.

Ebony recalled a time when she and Shyme, the travelling Spiral artist, had combined their efforts to illustrate some of her stories, and Saffron surged with excitement -- he wanted to do that too! The two made a plan to travel to their next destination together, and work on illustrating one of her stories.

Saffron, who had previously been travelling with his brother Supplanter, was delighted to tell the other hatchling about the storyteller he had met. Supplanter had been given the directions to find a botanic Tundra who could help him with his passion for gardening, and while he had initially been worried about leaving his brother alone to travel the world, Saffron reassured him that the older Skydancer would definitely be able to protect him on the road. The two Wildclaw brothers shared a heartfelt farewell, and went on their separate ways.

...

The next day, when Ebony and Saffron had been planning to leave, Saffron suddenly broke down and began to cry for his twin brother. Ebony, always with a soft spot for hatchlings, wrapped the Wildclaw up in her wings and hummed to soothe him the best she could. The Skydancer asked him if this was really what he wanted, or if he would rather continue travelling with Supplanter -- it broke Saffron's heart to split up from his family, but he knew that being a travelling artist was what he wanted more than anything.

Ebony nodded in understanding; family was more important to her than anything else in the world, so she understood his pain. She herself spent every day thinking about her travelling mother, hoping she could meet her again someday. But while they were on the road together, Ebony and Saffron could be like family to each other, in place of those they were missing. Saffron nodded, still sniffling a little -- he liked the sound of that.

KingVulture: Unsure of what else to do, Ebony wanted to get to know Saffron a little better. She asked him what clan he came from, wondering if maybe he'd like to return home. Saffron told her that he came from a clan at the border of Plague and Shadow territory - Crow Callers.

Ebony was rather enthusiastic to return there. After all, her last visit was wonderful. When she arrived, she explained that she was returning along with Saffron. She even got the opportunity to get to know Saffron's parents a little better - their names were Tobias and Fiddler. She remembered Tobias as the dragon that helped with her luggage, but didn't know Fiddler that well. Despite Fiddler's fearsome appearance, she was very friendly and polite. Both of them were excited to see Saffron again, and so was he.

Ebony wanted to meet some of the other hatchlings of the clan. She was introduced to Dakota, who also enjoyed telling stories to hatchlings. In fact, it was almost time for a story to occur, and all the other hatchlings gathered around - SantaMonica, Sparrow, Tiderunner, Migor, Dromund, NoName, TearsOfPearls, Jargon, Rigaudon, and Droverson were their names. They enjoyed the story that was being told, and Droverson decided soon afterwards that it was time for him to start his travels. After the clan bid farewell, Ebony decided that she should look at some more opportunities for jobs in the clan. Working with hatchlings seemed great.

Eventually, Saffron wanted to go. Ebony asked if he wanted her to come with, but Saffron politely turned down the offer, saying that he feels much safer now that he was older. In fact, he even wanted to protect Rigaudon, another young dragon who he felt was potentially at risk out there. Ebony was proud of Saffron, and after the two dragons shared a heartfelt goodbye, Saffron started to head out on his own.

After a while, Ebony got back to deciding that she'd be staying in this clan permanently, like she wanted to originally. She got a job at the Traveller's Lodge, often taking care of hatchlings/younger dragons that came to the clan (or were heading out for the first time).
