To answer your inquiry, I can't speak for the Smash fandom since I'm not rlly in it, but at least to me Geno is well-loved bc he's a childhood favorite character of mine who impacted me quite a bit when I was very small, so he's kinda of been a long-term comfort character of mine~ ^-^

I imagine that outside of that, he's popular bc he has a nice design and/or bc SMRPG is quite the beloved game!
