The two Guardian ladies walking toward the Forge were familiar. Certainly, they had been to the event last year. The larger of the two turned her head to peer at Furnace. "Fellow Guardian, were you in attendance last year?" "I am happliy celebrating my 6th Flameforger's event." "And I my fifth." Her companion smiled at the Snapper and the Guardian that she, too, towered over. "And before she announces it, yes, Antiquity had birthed 17 hatchlings before I hatched in my Ice nest so I am still and always the younger." Antiquity smiled at her friend. "Time passes swiftly. Before we use up more of yours, fine Fuller, let us attempt to dragon up to the bellows and win some bottles for our growing collection." "Our young weyrmates, Tohido and MysticMoon acquired 10 bottles in excellent condition. Hopefully we will match that amount and double our weyr's spark-filled prizes." Antiquity comforted her friend, who was sadly tossing her fifth bottle into a nearby - and quite full - glass recycling bin. "At least mine is not the only one." Cobbler sighed as she observed the broken bottles in the bin. "Go ahead - get all of them for the Weyr!" Antiquity very carefully aimed and, using her intimate knowledge of Fire, claimed all five bottles. "Nine out of 10 isn't bad for us. Now the weyr has 19 to share - and 5 more days to collect more." "Yes, my friend. Now let's go find some sinful Festival food." "Oh yes - I could go for some Deep-Fired Fire Flowers!" "Dipped in honey and Fire Ants! Yes!" In addition to the forge itself seeming to require less attention, the resulting pieces from its fires have a little more strength to them. I could just be imagining it, but even the weak fire inside the bottles today persist even in strong winds. I would be less surprised if we had actually used any of the magical accelerant from last year's festival, but we haven't. The fire sustains itself with no aid from dragons. Both offered friendly smiles to all the others, and bowed their heads with respect to Fuller and Furnace, then waited their turns. Arata took five turns, and Kazuki the other five, both of them crossing their claws and hoping they did well. "So this is the famed Flameforger's Festival! Amazing." After taking his place at the rear of the line, he taps his pearl against the ground a few times, as if to steady himself. Sparks fly out from the pearl, drawing the attention of the dragons in front. "Oops... don't mind me!" he mumbles sheepishly.

Before she could explain things better to the pearlcatcher, he had already picked up and literally tossed his embers at the bottles. It took her a moment before she laughed, shaking her head. [b]"An' they said no one would actually throw an ember!"[/b] Fuller inspected the bottles as she brought them back over, but there wasn't a scratch on one of them. All ten physical tosses had been well-aimed and landed home. The snapper shook her head, unable to do more than just smile as she handed them back. [b]"An' y' can borrow some gloves next time, but I'd recommend tryin' th' bellows instead. Though your aim is quite good!"[/b] Most guests used the bellows to blow air over their embers, sending the sparks towards the bottles. But more and more common this year seemed to be actually throwing Glowing Embers. Many more dragons of Sornieth had much better aim than she! [b]"Hail, stranger. You smell of metals, what's your specialty?"[/b] Furnace hides a small wince, as the ridgeback's strenghth at the bellows successfully demolished three bottles. [b]"You're more of a hammer-wielder, aren't you?"[/b] The guardian asked, smiling gently. [b]"Not so much strength behind it, you want the sparks not the solid rock."[/b] Singe was more than capable of igniting his remaining bottles, and his last one was perfect with not a flicker of smoke on the glass. [b]"Yer companion looks t' fit right in with all th' obsidian!"[/b] [b]"Ember Toss is simple t' try, can be harder t' master,"[/b] Fuller explained, [b]"You'll take th' bellows, line up a shot, an' push - not too hard - t' send th' embers from yer coal t' th' bottles. An ember inside will light it up. An', well, this year, we don't really know what they'll be!"[/b] She leaves the bellows to the imperial and her cat, and sidles aside to give them space. Perhaps it was the quiet nature of the imperial, but all ten of her attempts were lined up well and all yielded lit bottles. Fuller merrily passed the winnings over to the imperial. He had been looking for the younger Mage, as it was never a good idea to leave one so proficient in generating lightning fireballs to their own devices for long--it tended to lead to unexplained lightning strikes at unusual locations. He hadn't expected to find him here, near a forge of all places, though. It seemed a bit out of place...wait a minute, those bottles looked somewhat familiar...didn't Athena have some like that? The Purple Pearlcatcher snorted softly. Of course, that explained it! His son had been quite jealous of those bottles all year. So, the younger Mage wanted some of his own, did he? Well, it wasn't like they weren't interesting, and at least they weren't throwing off lightning sparks. He moved closer, nodding to his son as he came up beside him, and stood watching the odd patterns dance inside the bottles. Actually, now that he thought about it, those bottles really looked quite unusual...and he could do with some new things in his personal cave... Trying to look nonchalant, and studiously ignoring his son's knowing grin, the older Pearlcatcher turned to the Snapper who seemed to be in charge. "Could I have a go at this, please? Perhaps...[b]10 tries[/b]?" (It wouldn't do to be showed up by his own son, after all....)[/I] Sending the Embers now! :)
