The location itself is found within a separate plane only accessible through dreams, and is otherwise neither here nor there. Within it, resides the daunting beast with tattered wings and crimson adornments. The Ravenghast. Its tremendously large, formidable figure is contrasted by the beauty of the array of stained glass behind it and the marks of a once grand, but fallen civilization. [*]In exchange for a Pearlcatcher’s most precious item and namesake--their pearl, a wish is granted in turn. The wish for power. For beauty or charisma. The wish to save the life of another. Humble wishes that only affect oneself are granted with ease and with relative consistency, but the Ravenghast will still grant wishes of those who choose to reach further above their means. Wishes that affect other parties, or influence their emotions are also given in exchange-- including retrieving their life from the brink of death--however, these wishes are more likely to become warped, increasingly so depending on how much those being wished upon resist its effects. Regardless--a Ravenghast will always fulfill its pact, no matter its eventual outcome. [*]To find the Ravenghast, one must first be aware of its existence, whether through rumors, stories or books. Then, when the desire to form a contract is strong enough, it will be realized within a dream. Within the dream, the wishmaker will be given a lone, black feather by the one most important to them. Enormous, sleek and reeking of ominous magicks, this token will manifest and then be used to make physical contact to the realm of the Ravenghast. Holding the feather close within the dark of night, and uttering a beckoning word will bring the two worlds closer together. The wishmaker will then be transported to a misty ethereal plane, dragging in its surroundings. However, those who are uninvited and unlikely to make a wish of their own will find themselves lost until the wishmaker themselves has either completed the pact or leaves of their own volition. It is then, that everyone and everything will reappear in its place where the ritual itself began--as if nothing had ever happened, and not a minute passed on the clock. [*]Every token opens its own "instance," no two contractors will cross paths in this realm even if having performed the ritual at the same time. The Ravenghast in each realm is one and the same, however. It is able to remain fully omnipresent and omniscient of what occurs within each separate plane, and transfer its consciousness across time and space. [*]Stealing a contract feather grants notoriously bad luck toward the thief and its future recipients. The token itself has an uncanny way of finding itself back to its intended owner, often leaving a path of misfortune in its wake in the process. The stronger the desires are of the intended owner, the faster the token will find its way back with more morbid, bloodier results. [*]If one full month has passed and no wish is made, the feather token then dissolves and fades back into obscurity from whence it came. [*]Pearlcatchers that form a pact with the Ravenghast can usually be identified by their lack of said pearl as well as the absence of their former memories. They, in turn may often possess special abilities that vary wildly depending on what they wished for--or even none at all, if the wish was used on another. They are able to develop a strong sense of identity even without their pearls, but some may still seek (or pilfer) a placeholder and rely on it as a crutch. [*]Only those who earnestly want to form a pact can contact the chained creature. Individuals armed with trickery of their own, pearls of another or those wishing to find it for more nefarious reasons will find themselves often no closer, as the two worlds will never meet. Other species cannot seem to make contact beyond appearing in a dream. Strangely, Pearlcatcher hatchlings will find themselves similarly unable to conjure up its presence as well, no matter how earnest and true their desires are. Perhaps their desires are still too young, or their pearls not yet enough? [*]Although they do not share any common lineage or traits, Pearlcatchers that have undergone a pact with the Ravenghast are strangely connected to one another. It is not an entirely unusual occurrence for them to come across each other and converse within dreams. They also have the most curious ability to recognize one another, but none of them can quite place the finger on exactly why. Only that “they just know” for certain, forming a peculiar sort of unspoken bond between themselves for better or for worse. (This can be as short, or as long as you'd like, as long as it's apparent what the wish is.) [*]If their wish includes another dragon (any species), you may post them as well! If that dragon is owned by another user, you are further welcome to ping them to join them in on the fun. They can then choose to accept or resist (monkey’s paw) the wish from there, and if resisting--they can alter or interpret the wish in a variety of ways, from minute details to major changes. (This is purely for fun and from a lore-standpoint.) [*]Your Pearlcatcher will then be added to the registry of “Known Contractors” at the cost of their former memories (in lore). No matter their background, they will not be able to recall their past, and efforts to do so will result in a strange hazy vision of a cathedral filled with stained glass, black feathers and the deafening memory of its tolling bells. It is painful and unpleasant to attempt to remember. They are free to make new memories from there, and live with the results of whatever wish they made. Be it strength, beauty, charisma or the opportunities they dreamed of. The Ravenghast grants it all. [*](Exalted or to-be-exalted Pearlcatchers are also welcome to be used if you want to use their wishes as additional flavor text for your own existing dragons. They will remain on the register, but will not be able to participate in any events.) Scripa picks her way forwards, knowing without knowing which way to move, the feather tucked into her scarf. The cathedral appears from the mist. Or perhaps, it was formed from the mist. Scripa can be sure of nothing in this landscape, save for the beating of her heart, the weight of her pearl, and the wish that sits on her tongue. The bells toll. She wonders if they will stop, but the doors creak open and she abruptly remembers the weight of what she is about to do. She steps into the cathedral, the mist stubbornly following her inside. The stained glass is as beautiful as the script said. It shifts and dances, splashes the interior of the cathedral with an array of colours that look otherworldly in the fog. But she did not come here to see glass. Her eyes fix on the hulking mass of black and red feathers, the golden chains winding round and round the entirety of the mass. A great beak is pointed down, at the floor, as though unaware of her presence. The more she looks, the more she realizes that the beak is not pointed to the ground. There is an altar, tiny compared to the Ravenghast. There is an indent. She knows what it is for. Her steps are sure as she approaches the altar and places her pearl into the cool, dark stone. The feather disappears from her scarf, and without missing a beat, Scripa speaks her wish. "I wish I had more power." The Ravenghast says nothing in return. But a ghostly hand materials and reaches for her pearl. Scripa watches the hand pick her pearl up, but she doesn't move. It's like she can [i]feel[/i] her memories fleeing from her. The Ravenghast opens its beak, and her pearl falls. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scripa wakes. The sound of her power pulses louder than her heart, and when she reads her journal entry for the day she doesn't remember, she smiles. It looks like her wish was granted, after all.[/center]

Would it really be over just like that? As quick as a snap between the fingers? Ah... yes. Yes, but not quite. As Scripa stood within the magic circle, a row of poor souls had been pulled from the shadows of the floor before her. Each looked strong in their own right. Their muscles taut, their claws slender and dexterous. A few seemingly cunning in magicks of their own. It was easy to imagine them standing proud, tall, and formidable; but it could only ever be just that--imagination. The reality was that they seemed... in a daze. Shambling and trapped in an eternity. Tired, broken and unbroken. For how long this cycle had been going on, no one knows. They each reflected a different era and a different clan. The only thing they had in common... was obvious. Their strength. Like reaping a bountiful harvest, whatever they were had been torn from them... and given to Scripa. The exact details of such could be heard resounding throughout the cathedral halls. After the initial sickening crack and crunching, the sound was replaced by a slow, methodical squelching as they reduced from flesh to pulp, and from pulp into the dark muck of a sanguine concentrate. It seeped into her body, which began to hum and thrum with a tremendous power. First almost mercilessly loud, before dying to that of a soft, ever present lull--waiting to lash out. The power is raw and angry, like a beast that has yet to be tamed. Yet its loyalty is second to none. Yielding to her whims with a feral presence, it sleeps deeply within the runes that run along her form.
