Day 2
Roll: 129 (Neutral)
I rolled 24 out of 100 for my Neutrals, which would be bonding! Yay!
And here's some random items that kinda have to do with this post:
Further into the Familiar Fair, a certain flash of cyan and copper caught Theo's eye. The gorgeous creature sat in a very comfortable basket lined with pure white feathers, gently turning its head this way and that as the wind blew softly on its tail.
"Look," he said, tugging on Komodo's wing. But he ignored him, distracted by a giant colorful bird.
"Seiche, look," he tried again. Seiche turned, let out a loud gasp, and then whirled Komodo around.
"Unicorn!" she shrieked.
"It's a real unicorn!"
Theo beamed, and the two of them raced to get there first.
It turned out that everything at this unicorn's booth was glamorous. The tent was a soft teal color, the silky and shiny fabric glistening in the sun. The poles that sunk into the sand were copper-colored and well polished, and the other familiars there also copper cages, except for a few who were allowed to roam free. They were obviously groomed and well taken care of.
Theo let his mouth hang open as he looked around. Everything was so neat and fancy and amazing!
In the corner, a Pearlcatcher was feeding some pink thing, humming a tune.
"Oh my Windsinger," Seiche said, still entranced by the unicorn.
"It's so pretty it's glowing!"
The Pearlcatcher turned to them, a look of delight on his face.
"Hatchlings! What a pleasure it is to have you here!"
Komodo finally caught up with them.
"Just tell them about the unicorn so we can look at actual cool stuff," he said to the Pearlcatcher.
"Don't mind him," Seiche said quickly.
"He's just salty."
"Like the salty crackers Mom makes," Theo piped up.
The Pearlcatcher's eyebrows shot up.
"Salty crackers, eh? Can I call you that, bud?" He grinned at Komodo.
"Nuh uh. Not even a single bit," Komodo said, shaking his head.
The Pearlcatcher laughed.
"Well, I'm Royal Shining, but Shining will do. I take care of all these familiars here plus many, many more. These are my best behaved darlings here for the Fair. Now, you were interested in my Maned Cerdae?"
"The unicorn," Theo confirmed. His eyes went over to it. The Maned Cerdae, as Shining had called it, was yawning like it was completely bored of all this.
"Her name is Cristyn," Shining said.
"Don't tell any of the other familiars here, but she's my favorite. Been here the longest, and we've got a great bond."
"Cristyn the unicorn!" Seiche squealed.
"What's so specials about her? She can't even talk," Komodo said.
Shining winked.
"What's so special about you? You can't even fly yet," he shot back teasingly.
That shut him up. Theo felt kind of bad for Komodo, but he also tried to insult Cristyn the beautiful and amazing Maned Cerdae, so maybe he deserved it.
All of a sudden, a roar of warmth filled the air, flaring at their scales.
"Fire! Firemane Manticore on the loose! Out of the way!" a panicked wildclaw screeched out as a lion-bat thing with a gorgeous mane and a whole bunch of fire in its claws tore by, leaving behind a trail of smoke.
"Now that's cool," Komodo said.
"And also quite dangerous," Shining reminded him.
"And they can't talk either. But go on, watch. Things get interesting sometimes, watching dragons wrestle with smaller beings."
Komodo nodded eagerly.
"That just makes them cooler!"
"Unicorn!" Theo prompted Shining, trying to remind him to go back to telling them about Cristyn.
"Can we pet her?"
"No, sorry," Shining said.
"She'll get stressed if you mess up her glossy fur. But there are a few familiars you can pet if you'd like."
Seiche frowned.
"I like unicorns," she said.
"These are cute too." He went over to the copper-colored cage of the pink thing he was feeding, opening the side and letting the creature crawl onto his arm.
"This is a Cherry Blossom Caterpillar. He's barely a month old and still unnamed, so if you wanted to take him home you could pick a name of your own."
"Will he turn into a butterfly? 'Cause I don't thinks I can keep up if he flied awayed," Seiche said.
"No, this li'l guy will stay just as he is," the Pearlcatcher told them warmly.
"But I get it, a baby might be too much for a youngster like you. Let's try this one."
He put the Caterpillar back into its habitat and headed out of the tent, to the back.
Theo shared an excited look with Seiche, wondering what it was. Could it be even better than Cristyn? No, probably not. Unicorns were pretty much at the highest tier of awesomeness.
"That bat-lion just set the dragon on FIRE," Komodo yelled.
"Weirdo," Seiche yelled back at him, and Theo giggled.
"Fire is cool," Theo said.
She made a face.
"Not when unicorns are better."
He couldn't argue with that.
Shining finally appeared again, and in his claws was a bronze and tan colored crab.
Theo immediately felt a pull towards this one. He held out a claw, and the crab climbed upwards in Shining's hand to reach towards him.
"Look, she likes you already," Shining said affectionately.
"This is Mandy, a Sandshore Snipper. She's usually shy, but she just clicks with some dragons. But no one she's liked has been able to adopt her yet."
"I will!" Theo said immediately.
"Can I? Please?"
"Whoa, I thought you like unicorns," Seiche said.
"But look at her!" He let Mandy climb onto his claw and sit in his palm, gazing up at him happily with her two beady eyes, waving her pincers at him and adjusting her leg positions.
"She's too cute."
He glanced up at Seiche and saw her smile before she could hide it.
"Well," she started.
"I saw you smile," Theo said, delighted.
"Fine. Komodo, come see if you like Theo's new pet."
Komodo begrudgingly stopped watching the Manticore wrestle the Wildclaw. His eyes went to Mandy the Snipper.
"Oh, nice," he said.
Theo looked up.
"Really?"
"Yeah. Better than a unicorn," he said. He tried putting a claw out towards Mandy, but she shrunk away from him.
"He likes Theo better," Seiche teased, laughing.
"Not fair," Komodo scowled, just as a scream sounded. They all turned their heads towards where it came from.
And then there were more screams, dragons diving into the sky, and with a
whoosh, heat licked at their scales.
Oooooooooooooo mysterious :DD
And yes I decided to bold the dialogue because it's easier for me to read, but if you hate it then just say so and I can stop ^^'
