Kaamos
Hatchling-sitter
Biography
Kaamos was from a clan residing in the Southern Icefield and was the most timid out of his siblings. He didn’t like being in the center of attention and kept his voice always quiet being rarely heard by his clan mates. Though having yet to learn how to fly he was soon seen old enough to join in gatherings and traveled with his family to Frigid Floes where he was supposed to find some treasures. Kaamos though wandered too close to the edge and he soon noticed to be trapped on a floating ice floe. He tried to call his parents but didn’t want to shout leading his calls ending up unheard. Wind pushed the floe to north and it started to shrink fast once Kaamos encountered the southernmost peaks of the Crystalspine Reaches. He wasn’t sure if he rather drowned or was sucked elementless by the peaks when he noticed dragons on one of the peaks. The floe barely could stand his weight and Kaamos decided to take a risk jumping to the sea and tried to swim towards the peak. He though wasn’t a strong swimmer and the fur pulled him under the waves when two dragons flied towards him and helped him to reach the peak. Kaamos watched the dragons that had saved him, a mirror and a light pearlcatcher who seemed to be leaders of the family of faes. They didn’t really ask how he had ended up there but the oldest dragon, Benizakura, offered Kaamos food and allowed him to stay with them. Kaamos wasn’t sure if he wanted to stay not liking how faes of the clan didn’t want to leave him alone, especially Fea and Skye demanded him to do their jobs for them, for some reason. They were proud and Benizakura wasn’t any better. Kaamos thought about returning to the south feeling like an outsider in the clan. Next day however two new dragons, about same age as he, arrived. Breeze the plague spiral and Obsidius the wind guardian were exploring the peaks when they found the lair and after noticing how proud Benizakura was they came to ask Kaamos if he was always like that. He told he seemed to be and the two stayed to play pranks on him. Kaamos found their pranks to be somewhat hilarious but that seemed to annoy those ones who kept bossing him and they came to pressure him more often. Kaamos didn’t like that and feeling trapped he sneaked out the lair to enjoy silence and fresh air. After moving few peak away from the lair he stopped hearing some singing somewhere near. He sneaked to see who was singing and found Siren singing a beautiful song. He listened it and after if was over he clapped scaring the fae. Scared of having scared the smaller dragon he rushed to tell he was alone assuming she was afraid of large audience. The two talked and felt safe having another dragon in the lair who didn’t like large groups either. The two became close friends and they soon had three eggs waiting to hatch. The hatchery was peaceful and quiet area and Kaamos enjoyed his time in there. He though seemed to be the only one as Siren found it distressing and Kaamos understanding her let her go promising to take care of the eggs himself looking after Obsidius’ egg at the same time. He noticed being able to be alone around the nests and after the eggs hatched and the hatchlings left the nests he stayed there saying he made sure the nest were always clean. Kaamos made sure he was not going to leave the hatchery and soon enough others stopped bothering him. He managed to get himself off from to be bossed -list just in time for Benizakura to step down from his leader position leaving the clan without a leader. Basically all of the bossy ones saw that as their chance of becoming the leader and became very aggressive. Kaamos was pretty much seen as a weirdo guarding empty nests at that point and he was not affected by that but he was worried of the hatchlings, both his own and others’. Kaamos tried to glance to the clan hoping to see his children without revealing himself and noticed Nova, his son staring at the starry sky. He believed the stars were his family and Kaamos had assumed that either he realized that was not the case or someone would tell him that but that had not happened. Kaamos felt bad for his son and sneaked to meet him to tell he was his real father and he had no relation to anything in the night sky. At first Nova had hard time believing that but he eventually did and started to study stars instead. Seeing his son’s dedication made Kaamos proud and he decided to buy him a small telescope hoping it would help him reach new heights with his studies. Sometime later Kaamos started to get annoyed by the fuss going on in the lair. He wasn’t sure what was going on and asked Obsidius about that. He told that the clan had received a move order from the Observatory and they were leaving very soon. Kaamos wasn’t sure what to think about the fact no one had told him or Nova about the move and paid his son a visit to inform him. Nova didn’t like idea of moving but eventually Kaamos managed to convince him to come with him. There was not much for them to do and Kaamos picked Nova up and carried his researches to their new lair in the Starwood. In the new lair Kaamos helped his clan mates to build new hatchery and after that was done he continued looking after others’ eggs and hatchlings. The clan had managed to get a proper leader soon after having sorted things out and not needing to fear for being bossed around Kaamos was able to take a walk when he wanted assuming he didn’t need to guard nests. Few nights after having one of his daughters, Safirice, move to the Observatory and having another’s children leave the hatchery Kaamos was taking some snack for himself when he heard Alfa calling him. Alfa was the clan founder and Kaamos was often very nervous near him and that night he had someone who was clearly from the Observatory with him making Kaamos twice as nervous. Alfa asked Kaamos if he knew where Nova was and Kaamos tried to stay calm not knowing exactly where his son was but he did remember he had started to spend time at the tree tops to see starts better. Kaamos watched as Alfa called Nova down and let the guest to explain their mission themselves. They told that they had heard of Nova’s studies and offered him work in the Observatory at the very top of the Focal Point. Kaamos noticed how the question made Nova nervous and wanting to be a good role model he forced himself to stay calm when Nova asked his opinion. He didn’t know what he would answer if he was in Nova’s place and suggested he’d visit the Observatory to see what it was like and decide after that. Nova had decided to do what Kaamos had suggested and after coming back Kaamos felt proud seeing his son wearing ambassador symbols. To honor him the clan decided to build an observatory for him and Kaamos knowing he would be awful at building took care of clan’s egg and hatchlings letting their parents join the project. After the observatory was finished Kaamos had some hatchlings with a mirror that had helped him take care of the hatchlings during the project only to have his daughter Witchi hint that one of the eggs had been enchanted. That made Kaamos very worried and he was able to tell which egg had been affected but knowing he couldn’t do anything he hoped it was nothing severe. Eventually the egg hatched and Kaamos was immediately worried for her. Silence was a tundra but she lusted for blood like a mirror, practiced hunting and was clearly very savage. Kaamos spent his nights wondering why someone had done what they had done till the night when Silence switched her breed to mirror. Kaamos watched as she ran to the wood with her new body when he heard battle noises from the main area and when he arrived to see what was going on the battle had already ended. Kaamos was soon told that there had been an attempt of revolution and while following the trial he started to wonder if Silence’s personality was created as a cover. Kaamos had not been the only one to be worried about her primal nature and many had been keeping an eye on her which gave the revolutionary almost perfect cover. Kaamos was sure that had been the case and stopped worrying about his daughter that much as as a mirror she was able to hunt that calmed her down a little bit and as an adult she was others’ problem while he bothered himself with children. Later that year the clan moved to the Focal Point and Kaamos moved with it keeping his status as the hatchling-sitter. Other than the environment nothing really changed, he took care of hatchlings when parents had something else to do, they grew up and left leaving Kaamos alone till more hatchlings hatched. Though he didn’t mind being alone he occasionally hoped to have someone to keep him company or someone for he could do the same. Siren had used to visit Kaamos but after the observatory project she had been so busy that she had not been able to do that in a very long time Kaamos being sure she had forgotten him. Few months after the move Kaamos was taking care of three hatchlings of a snapper and a skydancer and one of their hatchlings, Midnight seemed to have significant disability being either slow-minded or deaf, maybe both. She took very long time to react to everything be that happenings around her or someone’s requests to her and Kaamos was sure that if not healers then he had to take care of her she seeming unable to function on her own. Some time after noticing Midnight’s disability Siren went missing after joining the temple building project and the clan was full of fuss because of that. To keep hatchlings from bothering adults and to prevent himself from getting too nervous he asked children to tell stories. After the other two from the litter had finished Kaamos decided to take them to the Hoard to maybe find something to do not expecting Midnight to say anything when she started to tell a story. Kaamos was shocked when he realized that the story she told was not fiction but and actual event from the past, Nova’s journey to the Observatory and back to be exact. After recovering from the shock Kaamos realized that Midnight with the seer power she seemed to have could help seekers trying to find Siren. He escorted Midnight to the gathering area trying to stay calm in groups so large and told about what he had discovered to the closest leader who happened to be Alfa. He and other dragons nearby were skeptical about what Kaamos claimed and he understood that but he didn’t want to look like having lost his mind so he asked Midnight to tell what had happened to Siren hoping she would understand. Midnight took her time and others started to get impatient, Kaamos included, when she finally opened her mouth. She didn’t answer directly to the question but the story she told sounded like it could have happened and after it ended the group around Kaamos and Midnight decided to check if Siren had ended up where Midnight told she had ended up. Kaamos praised Midnight while the group around them grew smaller till only Benizakura was with them. The pearlcatcher was curious about Midnight and asked Kaamos about her while he tried to answer the best he could. After thinking about it Benizakura asked if he could take Midnight with him explaining that she could be useful with his history project. Though sad having to lose someone he had hoped to stay as his company Kaamos was also happy that Midnight could have a purpose and watched as the light dragon escorted younger snapper to his completing library. Siren was found where Midnight had told she would be and the clan life carried on somewhat normally Kaamos staying near the nests keeping them clean alone. Eventually there were more eggs given for him to take care of and after the hatchlings grew up they left like so many before them. Kaamos had gotten used to that and was preparing that to repeat many times. Some time after that one of the hatchlings from the latest litters returned near the hatchery with many books. Kaamos was a bit confused by that as the nocturne, Pilkku, had not been very social child and that seemed unchanged. At first the two didn’t talk much as Pilkku looked busy studying his books and Kaamos didn’t want to bother him though having used to be alone he found dragon living that near him weird. Pilkku looked like he was going to stay near the hatchery and Kaamos wanting to learn more about his new neighbor eventually decided to try to ask what Pilkku was doing. Pilkku was more fae than nocturne answering deadpan that he studied eggs, genetics and other stuff but Kaamos was not sure if he was annoyed by his presence and left him alone. He though kept thinking what Pilkku had said and one night after returning from his lunch break he told Pilkku that if he needed any help he could help. He had decent memory and still remembered the hatchlings he had taken care of at the Peak. Some time after that Pilkku came to visit Kaamos, to tundra’s surprise, and asked him to tell how the hatchlings had inherited their parents genes. He had a notebook and writing tools with him which made Kaamos very nervous. He preyed both of his deities to not have his memory fail him as the nocturne asked question and had managed to avoid massive blackouts when Pilkku finally stopped asking after few hours. He was tired but at the same time happy to have helped young one out and watched as he took a nap before going to his own nest to do the same. Next night Pilkku asked Kaamos to organize his notes from last night and having nothing else to do he joined him happily though it felt weird. Kaamos was rarely asked to help with anything else other than looking after others’ hatchlings and he was alone so often than having a company felt weird. While organizing Pilkku’s data Kaamos wondered if he wouldn't get used to have a company and worried if Pilkku would start mimic him as he was a nocturne. Kaamos knew about nocturnes’ mimicking habit having taken care of Sapny when she had been young. Pilkku though didn’t show any signs of being interested about that and Kaamos hoped that wouldn’t change. After having the data organized Kaamos and Pilkku took a break with being together. They didn’t interact much until there were new eggs for Kaamos to look after when the nocturne left his books to spent time with Kaamos again. Pilkku, as Kaamos had expected, was not really interested in hanging out with him but wanted to observe the eggs. Kaamos was not an expert when it came to eggs and only told what a healthy egg looked like leaving Pilkku to study their texture and magical energies in peace. Later the temple the clan had been building was about to be finished and the architects had decided to move the hatchery in there. Kaamos was not sure if he wanted to move indoors enjoying being under the sky but understood that it would be safer for the eggs. He started to move the nest shards to the new area and plant them back to the ground with the help of Pilkku. He made sure they were similar to how they had been in old location and cleaned them to have them ready to have some eggs in them. After that was done Kaamos started to think nest for himself when he heard Pilkku calling from his brand new office. Once Kaamos arrived Pilkku didn’t hesitate and showed Kaamos one of the extra rooms that differed a lot from others. The nocturne explained that he had asked builders to not forget Kaamos and that room was for him so he could be close if the clan ever had hatchling patients. Kaamos was not sure how he was supposed to react and before he could thank the younger dragon he had turned his back walking to his own room leaving Kaamos to get his bed ready. Before he closed the door Kaamos whispered his thanks shaking because of happiness. Some time after having settled down to their new home Kaamos and Pilkku got visitors. Milla, a young therapist, was helping Kaamos’ son Borealis with his problems when it came to social situations and other things but at the same time she still needed to study. Kaamos who rarely interacted with his children was more than happy to help them and acted out social situations with Borealis when Milla was busy pulling Pilkku out of his office to join them. Kaamos heard that Borealis loved snow a lot and offered to take him and Milla to the southern region when Borealis had made some progress his son’s excited reaction making him happy. They flied there few night later the trio having packed some snacks Kaamos carrying the arcane spiral in his thick mane. At the icefields he enjoyed snow having not seen it since leaving his home competing with his son but at the same time keeping his eyes open in case of frostbites on the arcane dragons. They made few more trips to the south after that when Borealis either proceed or got too stressed and Kaamos grew close to them starting to see Milla as his own daughter. Later during late autumn Kaamos was guarding eggs in the hatchery when Borealis came running to him saying someone had kidnapped Milla just in front of him. Kaamos soothed his son before following him to the scene and as Borealis had explained what had happened Milla was carried to the temple looking confused. Milla was brought to the healing offices but Kaamos was not able to visit her until the eggs hatched few nights later. During that time Borealis and Parcha whose eggs Kaamos had looked after had told that there had been a crystal creature that had attacked few of the residents, it turned out that the creature had been Milla who suffered from amnesia. Clan was not sure how they should take that information few blaming Milla while others believed she was innocent. Borealis was sure she was innocent and got very nervous when someone expressed their doubts towards the foreign spiral. One dragon who was sure about Milla’s guilt was Morgana who had apparently come to make that clear every night since the incident. She came again when Kaamos and Borealis were visiting Milla giving a cold eye to the spiral making Kaamos feel unsafe. Borealis defended Milla though the guardian didn’t hear him and downplayed Kaamos' words too. When she was about to leave Borealis stepped in front of her stopping her and opposed Morgana’s ideas. Kaamos watched as his son faced Morgana’s cold eyes in order to defend his friend and was impressed. Kaamos knew Morgana well enough to know her to be very strict about her ideals and was known to use violence if she saw that needed. Morgana and Borealis stared each other what felt like an eternity when Morgana walked past the tundra saying that nothing was sure just yet. After she was gone Kaamos came to see his son who had clearly been scared of challenging the guardian shaking nervously but proud at the same time. Kaamos was proud of his son and let his son hear that. Milla pointed out that her job seemed to be done and Kaamos thanked the spiral before leaving with his son enjoying his happiness from his deed. Life carried on rather peaceful in the clan Kaamos getting a blind dragon Kaiku, who he had taken care of when she was little, to help him teach the hatchlings. That turned out to be very useful the clan starting to offer hosting services to Ancient Lairs' exchange students they occasionally having a lot of young dragons among them. Even though they were not related to clan's residents and they didn't stay in the clan Kaamos still got attached to them and was proud when they eventually graduated and moved to serve their chosen deity. Though Kaamos was, barely, able to take care of all the hatchlings during the exchange periods the entire clan Kaamos included thought it was good idea to make everything in the clan bigger. They had space but too small buildings to fill them. Rosalin and Pernis were working to turn their simple town into a great city though Kaamos knew, having fostered both of them, that it had little to do with lack of space and more with their ambition. They visited Pilkku and Kaamos another night asking their opinion about the new hatchery it staying in concept the same just getting greater. Kaamos was not an architect and accepted their suggestion as long as they didn't make it too grandiose. As the architects were showing off their new temple blueprints they told that their inspiration had been a constellation that Nova had found just before Rosalin had returned from her idea collecting journey. He had named it "Ruoigu" after something found in ruins found soon after the discovery. Kaamos was a bit late for a party but finding a constellation was a big deal for an arcane clan and Kaamos decided to step out of the hatchery to suggest the leaders that they changed clan name to honor Nova's discovery. Both of them accepted the suggestion and some time later the entire clan supported the change it being made official in the conference outlining the lair rebuild project. Things though didn't go too great after that. Somewhere a group of arcane scholars opened a portal that led weird creatures to the Sornieth some of them arriving to the clan. Kaamos was not sure what happened next every non-dragon in the lair starting to act hostile both Kaamos and Pilkku giving their little companions to Pinkapi to avoid them hurting exchange students having arrived from the Scarred Wasteland. They could have dealt with that till the sudden change was uncovered but then Silence went and attacked a random plague clan driving the clan nearly to a war with the attacked clan. The near war was leaders' job to deal with and Kaamos focused on teaching their visitors they seeming willing to learn the clan assuming they prepared to attack from inside if war was to break. That though was avoided and the visitors returned to the plague domain few arcane students arriving in preparation to the House Cup in turn. By the time they left the clan had not been able to figure what had gone into familiars or Silence and things just seemed to get worse. Few afternoons after the House Cup had ended Borealis came to visit Kaamos saying Milla had vanished along with leaders. That sounded worrying and Kaamos, wanting some fresh air due all the stuff going on, decided to join his son as they went to look for the missing dragons. They didn't get far when an earthquake hit the lair the earth rising to wall it. Everyone was still confused by what just happened when Shadow and Sapny appeared on the lifted platform. They declared that they would sacrifice everyone to the Shade in few days when the Sun was to be eclipsed causing a lot of fear. Kaamos and Borealis were not sure what they should do Kaamos soon realizing that he should be guarding orphan eggs that were moved from Hoard to them to look after. He told Borealis to stay out of trouble before rushing to the hatchery telling confused Pilkku what was going on. Shadow and Sapny were both been fostered by Kaamos, like most of the lair's population, and hearing them to try something so destructive, again, hurt. Still, he was not allowing them to do what they most likely were going to do nothing saying "summoning the Shade" like sacrificing unborn dragons. Shadow and Sapny eventually arrived to the hatchery Kaamos already standing between the entrance and the egg vault ready to defend the eggs. He knew he had no chances against the two mages but he was not going to watch as they took the eggs. If they wanted them, they had to get rid of their foster father first. Shadow asked Kaamos to move her cold voice feeling like his ice element turning against him. He refused Shadow saying he did not need to make it hard for them. Kaamos knew that but kept his ground. Shadow turned her attention to Pilkku who had yet to fully understand what was going on he watching the events nearby while Kaamos growled to Sapny trying to sneak to the eggs. He was barely able to see Shadow turn Pilkku into a dodo before ordering the bird to attack the tundra. Kaamos was afraid but kept his ground refusing Shadow's request for the third time. She didn't bother after that and Kaamos felt magic hit him before he passed out. Kaamos was not sure how long it had been when he woke up in healing offices Borealis asking how he felt he saying he had been a nochnyr. Kaamos was feeling alright although a little dizzy and Borealis seeming busy left him to rest. It took some time before Kaamos fully remembered what had happened and scared of what had happened to the eggs he tried to make his way back to the hatchery only to be stopped by an unfamiliar guardian. They told the eggs were alright and ordered Kaamos to rest until he had fully recovered. Kaamos decided to obey Pinkapi bringing his and Pilkku's, he resting in the same space, familiars back they having come back to their senses. The following evening Kaamos was updated about what had happened the clan having been able to prevent the summoning both Shadow and Sapny having ran away in the middle of all of that. Kaamos would have been devastated by the events if it had been the first one but it was not first time one of his fostered children had died or done something bad though this time had been the most severe. He was able to return to his job, if there had been any hatchlings to look after, fast the hatchery being revamped as the temple was rebuilt around it. |

Traits
Being an ice tundra Kaamos is very fluffy, fluffiest tundra male in the clan which is even easier to notice because of his small size. Naturally he is very dark dragon having black giraffe pattern on his fur, a bit of greenish yellow on his otherwise dark wings making the skink pattern pop up more, dark brownish mane and grey lace pattern decorating edges of his wings and belly. He has added some yellow to his fur and painted bee wings on his wings to make him look more like a bumblebee. The hatchlings usually add to his ”daddy bug” theme by painting flowers and other bugs to his fur making Kaamos look like he had crossed a paint battle field. Lack of extra colors on his fur tells there has not been many hatchlings lately in the clan. He has common pale blue eyes. Unlike his fur that has been made more colorful with paints Kaamos’ choice of clothes are rather colorless. He wears black and white cape, collar, wing covers, socks and gloves and a black top hat to make him to look more like a magician which he occasionally plays for hatchlings. His cape, collar and wing covers are all decorated with bells and occasionally his clothes have paint on them especially when the clan has hatchlings. With his clothing Kaamos has tried to make himself as funny to hatchlings as he could be. Kaamos is known to be more of a silent type of dragon not speaking if not seeing that necessary. He has soft and somewhat quiet, calm and gentle voice with encouraging tone but he can also use deeper voice though that can only be heard when playing bear hunt with children. His speech is very polite and kind and he has never been heard swearing. Kaamos is also known for his weird accent that sounds like a mix between Russian and Estonian accent. Kaamos is very caring dragon treating every hatchling like they were his own children. He tries to keep an eye on everyone of them just in case any of them has something wrong and does his best to help them. Kaamos has liked hatchlings since he had few of his own using the games with them as a method to avoid stress of adult life. Because the clan has hatchlings quite rarely Kaamos may spend long times without hatchlings to play with though he doesn’t mind being alone. He though tends to wonder how the hatchlings he has taken care of are doing and gets very worried if he hears someone of them had gotten into trouble. He though rarely visits them in those situation knowing that the ex-hatchling would find it humiliating especially when they are no longer children. Kaamos has always been a bit of a shy dragon tending to avoid large groups. He though is loyal dragon and though he doesn’t really partake in everyday life of the clan he is willing to help others if needed as long as he doesn’t feel pressured. Kaamos used to be somewhat timid but has gained some courage once he started to feel like part of the clan and found a purpose for his life. He though is still somewhat anxious when dealing with grown up dragon remembering the time when clan had no order and strong ones used weaker ones. With hatchlings Kaamos is much more confident even ready to take charge if that is needed knowing where lack of it could lead especially with hatchlings who don’t understand things fully yet. Though not a fighter of any kind Kaamos would not hesitate to defend hatchlings and eggs he is looking after no matter what it would take. Almost as much as Kaamos likes hatchlings he likes pets and enjoys company of Lou the beagle and Tiki the tickbird who were given to him as birthday presents by one of his daughters. They are important to Kaamos as they are usually the stars of his ”magic tricks” he shows to the hatchling using his top hat and are smart enough to realize that though neither of them can speak. Kaamos rarely plays with them usually letting hatchlings do that instead. When there are no hatchlings to play with both of them tend to travel across the lair as Kaamos doesn’t like to do that for fun or demand something to do from him, usually fetch games for Lou and puzzles for Tiki, which Kaamos partakes willingly. Though a tundra Kaamos has very good memory being able to remember most of the names and events with many details from years ago. If something hinders his memory it is usually extreme stress, slightly stressful situation don’t usually affect his memory, and the things he forgets during that situation usually come back to him once he is allowed to calm down. Still, Kaamos doesn’t usually get any credit for his memory and tends to get similar treatment from his clan mates as other tundras with less good memory though it is not nearly as bad as what he had to experience after arriving to the clan. As an ice dragon Kaamos feels best in the cold but is sensitive to the heat. He can breath ice if he feels like he needs to cool himself down but his ice breath is not nearly as cold as other ice dragons' only being able to create a cold wind with rather short range. When the clan lived at the Crystalspine Reaches the long exposure to chalcedony weakened Kaamos greatly. It took a long time for him to re-learn his ice breath after the move and he is sure not to be able to gain other ice abilities because of the arcane energies from the first lair. |
