fun fact: the western zodiac and the chinese zodiac both have 12 groups, even though one counts months and the other counts years.

A 'blue moon' has two different meanings. It can be the fourth full moon of a season or the second full moon of a month. The second usage is newer, and probably based of a misinterpretation of an old almanac, but it is the common usage today. The longest period of time possible between two blue moons (second usage) is eighteen months.
A black moon is two new moons in a month (not common usage (yet!)). This is much rarer, but there is one upcoming. Either the thirtieth of September for the Western Hemisphere, or the end of October for the Eastern Hemisphere.
