The twisting roots and towering trunks of trees around you all look the same, and the sounds of birdcall and insects whirring seem to be leading you in endless circles through the foliage. As you wander, you try to distract yourself by stopping to admire the many varied flora and fauna that you pass or to listen to the songs of the birds, but as much as you try, you can’t shake the feeling that you’re being watched. You know it’s just paranoia - or, by the deities, you [i]hope[/i] it is - but the more you try to ignore it, the heavier the feeling gets. You whip your head around at the sound of something moving quickly through the underbrush to your right, something [i]big[/i], squinting into the thick ground cover as if that will allow you to see through the leaves and thorns obscuring your vision. Your heart starts to beat a little faster and your pace increases, instinct moving you readily away from the noise. Unfortunately, you aren’t paying attention to where you’re going - and before you can stop yourself, you’re sliding down a steep slope, claws scrabbling but failing to gain purchase, wings being pricked and tugged by thorns. You land unceremoniously, but relatively unharmed, at the bottom of the slope. You shake away the dirt and rocks still clinging to your claws and crane your neck to look back where you came, and feel a small pit of dread forming in your stomach. The slope is extremely steep and made of crumbling, loosely packed soil - while it’s probably not an impossible climb, it’s certainly close, and the thickly hanging, thorn-covered vines don’t make flight any more enticing. With a sigh, you turn the other way, and are met immediately with an unexpected sight: a huge root of The Behemoth towers before you, curved into an almost perfect arch. Symbols are carved into the face of the root - looking at it closely, they seem to be flowers…? [/columns]
