I am my hair
by yours truly, crappy non-native English included
xxxxxxx– This is how you weave them, Mina. - Her father said in his gentle and calm voice. xxxxxxx– So I just tie it with a simple knot, then... - Mina did just as their father instructed, such a daddy's darling. xxxxxxxHer sister's green mane was tied in girlish pigtails. They always tied their hair in tight braids. Tila kept hers in a french braid, a very long one; her father kept his in a single side braid but as snug as he could get it. xxxxxxxHere were the three of them on his long and sturdy canoe, gently floating along the margins of the massive river that fed the Behemoth. She had been born in this seemingly heavenly countryside, sun-kissed skin and the very green of the Viridian Labyrinth living on her mane, on her eyes, on her scales. They enjoyed a steady life as fishers for a medium-sized clan. xxxxxxx– I'm leaving. - She declared all of a sudden. Her sister looked at her, confused. xxxxxxx– What did you say, Til? xxxxxxx– I said I am leaving. I hate this life, I want more of it. xxxxxxxHer father turned to her, finally, while she gently placed the oar back on the canoe's floor. xxxxxxx– It was nice living with you both. I truly enjoyed these past years still I don't think I am coming back. Ever. - She declared, placing both her hands on her lap. xxxxxxx– Tila... What are you talking about? - Her father asked, absolutely bewildered by her words. xxxxxxx– Drama queen. - Her sister mumbled at the other end of the canoe just loud enough to be heard. xxxxxxxTila opened her mouth to defend herself but decided against. You know what? Yes, she was a drama queen. A fisherman's daughter couldn't afford to be so, but that is what she wanted to be. xxxxxxx– I'll send flowers every year for mother's memorials. I don't think I am coming for them since I don't like memorials. They're boring, just like every other day. xxxxxxx– Tila, I really don't understand what you mean by any of that. - Her father said, furrowing his brow. - You don't want to help me fish anymore, that's fine. But... Leaving? - He looked at Mina, then down, then at her, his braid flopped against his shoulder. xxxxxxx– Yes, leaving. I really enjoyed my upbringing. You taught me many things. Thank you for that. For now, I must take my leave. - She said. xxxxxxx– But... xxxxxxx– Let her, papa, she'll come back eventually. - Mina said in a scoff playing with one of her pigtails. xxxxxxxHer poor father seemed sad and confused. He gazed at her in a pleading. She smiled and hugged her father as he hugged her. Tila would miss him, she really would. He had been an exceptional father, she loved him. But he was the only thing she loved about this life. xxxxxxx– Well, then. Adieu. - She said. xxxxxxxIn a swift motion, the canoe swayed under the soft rolling of the river's waves as Tila took flight. The top of the trees was lush and vibrant, green foliage and a blooming mess of colours and life. She flew past all she knew until the air changed to a serene stillness under the blue blanket of the sea. xxxxxxxOver the waves, she took a deep breath, feeling the wind comb droplets of water through her braid. She pulled her hairband and let it slowly loose itself under the wind. xxxxxxxThe air was cool and wild, her hair waved under it. | x |

So when she told her father and sister that she wants to join a crew and become a mercenary, the two knew there would be no stopping her. Once Tila set her mind on something, it's impossible to pry the idea from her brain. If anything, arguing about her choices make the elegant dragoness want to do them more. She bid farewell to them and they all knew that would be the last time they saw her. She has never missed her family, attachments just aren't something Tila does. And so, of she went to join the crew by Flavia's suggestion. Why, nobody, probably not even she, knew. Only one thing was for certain: this self-assured and independent dragoness would surely make her mark in other dragon's lives.
