The Tundra was watching his Nocturne companion, Orpheus, attempting to be sneaky as he slunk in and amongst the crowds of bustling competitors, mischief apparent on his face. Nilas gave one last glance over his shoulder before making his way to the start of the Cross-Country Skiing course, dragging his kit bag along behind him. He still had some time to kill before his allotted slot, so he delved into his bag and begun to wrap his paws in sports bandages and tie back his mane, keeping it out of his face.

Being on the snow again like this reminded her of the old days in the Southern Icefield. She used to hunt with her old clan: across Reclaimer's Glacier, and up into the heights of the Cloudscape Crags. There, the landscape was truly the challenge. Pitting herself against the elements of her home Flight had taught her well how to endure, and how to carry on even when her muscles burned with exhaustion. She had braved blizzards to bring supplies (or Fortress of Ends escapees) back to her clan. The Winter Games Cross-Country Skiing course was, despite the hills and falls and sharp turns involved, an easy stroll in comparisson. It wasn't even snowing a little! That meant that she could give in and enjoy herself. Take in the glitter of sunlight on powdery snow, breathe in the chill of a cold deeper than the Starfall Isles ever really felt, and allow herself the pleasure of skimming ahead of her closest competition. There were still miles of course left to go, and some more complex sections coming up. Plus, she knew from experience that the other skiiers might well surprise her with their speed and ability. After all, she had yet to win a medal in this event, despite competing regularly. But it wasn't about that. Skadi didn't enter the Winter Games to prove herself, or to win accolades. She did it to return to this: the joy of sliding smoothly over the surface of the snow, and the reminder of her Ice roots. Still smiling to herself, Skadi skiied onwards ... ----- Ooo, guess who almost forgot to do the final entries. :S These are going to be a rush job, oh well.

Zodonyarith was keen on those last minute pep talks, so it was unusual that he wasn't there already. She did remember him fussing about something that morning, what was it…? Well, by now she knew what he would tell her, so she closed her eyes and mentally ran down his oft repeated tips and pointers: do this, not that, don’t forget about this, be careful of that, yadda, yadda… Yeah. she had it. Her body was honed. And they were calling her name to move into place for her run! She hoped he’d be there in time to see her nail the course. Frerin sighed as Thorin yet again bent to inspect the sled, muttering to himself about the craftwork. 'I will stop fussing when when I am certain that you are not about to break your neck,' Thorin growled without looking up. 'Which will be never, given that you seem determined to throw yourself into danger at every turn.' Frerin took a very deep breath and held it until the urge to snap something unkind had dissipated slightly. He knew his brother worried. He even understood why: the fact he had almost died once would haunt Thorin probably for the rest of their lives. However, he couldn't allow that to stop him from living. 'It's just sledding,' he said, laying a hand on his brother's shoulder, and shoving away the wing that buffeted him in an attempt to push him off. 'At reckless speed,' Thorin growled. 'On a tea-tray!' Frerin huffed a laugh despite himself, imagining serving tea up on his sled the next time his siblings visited. 'I promise to be careful. All right?' Thorin sighed and at last stood up, lifting the sled into his arms. He turned and thrust it towards Frerin, but didn't let go when he tried to take it. 'I wish you had told me you were entering. I could have helped, built something better than this flimsy thing.' Frerin smiled. 'Aww, are you saying you would have built me an armoured tea-tray, brother?' Thorin shoved at the sled, sending him stumbling backwards. 'You may mock my concern, but yes.' 'After you tried to stop me entering at all,' Frerin said. Thorin didn't even try to argue that point, but he smiled anyway. 'Thank you. I'll keep that in mind, next time.' 'Let us get through this time, before we contemplate the next,' Thorin said, and though his voice was steady, Frerin could see the alarm in his eyes. He laughed. 'Oh, come now, brother! You taught me to sled, trust that your lessons were good ones,' he said as he backed away towards the starting point. 'Just watch!'
