At first, the Lair was nothing more than a simple cavern, but it quickly became a home, and it was here that Loki and Angrboda brought their hatchlings into the world. Thor and Odin joined the Clan while Loki and Angrboda were still raising their young family. It was not long before Loki’s declared them his brothers in bond, if not by blood. So it was that the earliest iteration of the Althing Council came into being, though it would not be named as such until a long while afterwards. The Lundlaevungar are so called to honour the Arcane Sprite who joined their ranks shortly after the founding of the Clan, during the Month of Starlight. [br][columns]In the early days, the powerful Arcane forces emanating from the Observatory caused Loki and Angrboda’s hatchlings to be mutated within their eggs: some of the changes were physical, and some gifted additional powers; but others altered their offsprings’ minds. They were reluctant to leave their original home, however, and it was Loki who suggested taking the Spire with them to the Starwood Strand. Under his direction, all of the dragons in the Clan contributed their strength to break the Spire's connection to the land. As Loki had long suspected, the Arcane magics of the Starfall Isles kept the Spire airborne despite the lack of physical support. So the Clan began to push the Spire across the sea from the Crystalspine Reaches towards the Starwood Strand. However, as they moved further from the physics-warping magic and Arcane energies surrounding the Observatory, the Spire began to drop. The Lundlaevungar realised what was happening, but even with all their combined magic they could do nothing to stop the fall. With great effort, they managed to get the Spire to the very edge of the Star Wood. There, it clipped the edge of the cliffs and toppled over, skidding into the trees and leaving a rut of destruction in its wake. Despite Loki’s best efforts, the Spire could not be raised again. So the Clan became used to their lair lying on its side, and made new homes in the trees of the Star Wood. They also tunnelled into the cliffs to create a stairway to the beach and hollowed out a network of corridors and chambers on many different levels, which stretch well below sea level. Eventually, Loki and the Lundlaevungar gained enough power to raise the Spire from where it lay. The Clan floated it out over the ocean to hang, equidistant, between the Starwood Strand and the Focal Point. It is once again supported by the strange energies emanating from the Arcanist’s home, and apart from a little course-correction to compensate for drifting, the Clan does not plan to move the Spire again. [br][columns][item=blue quartz][nextcol]ARRIVAL OF THE BLUE PLINTH[/columns] The Clan had not been residing in the Starwood Strand for long when a strange feature was spotted on the horizon. In the hours that followed, it approached and they saw that it was a crystal plinth not unlike those harvested by the dragons of the Crystalspine Reaches. However, it was not made of Rose Quartz or Pink Chalcedony, nor Rhodochrosite or Kunzite or even Morganite. This plinth was a deep shade of blue. When the plinth reached the cliff top alongside the fallen Spire, its inhabitants emerged: the Doctor, a dragon cursed with spontaneous shape-shifting and, thus far, thirteen known forms; the Imperial known as Tardis whose magic keeps their plinth aloft; the two Spirals, Space and Time, who help to pilot the plinth when they move it from place to place; and the Doctor’s host of companions. The group was made welcome among the Lundlaevungar. Despite their visitors’ mysterious and unusual ways, the Clan liked the Blue Plinth’s inhabitants: they were helpful and the tales they told, though strange, were highly entertaining. Aside from this, Odin was intrigued by the Doctor’s unique affliction, which permitted him to change not only his physical form but also his Flight: an otherwise unheard of feat. Loki, meanwhile, was fascinated by Tardis and her ability to hold the Blue Plinth in the air by herself, seemingly without effort – particularly considering the problems they had had with the Spire. They discussed the matter with the other members of the Althing Council, and decided to extend an invitation to join the Clan. The Doctor and his companions neither accepted nor rejected their offer, but explained that they were dedicated to adventuring, and never remained in any one place for too long. Soon enough the Blue Plinth was gone from the Lundlaevungar Territory. Yet ever since, the Blue Plinth has returned to the Lundlaevungar on a regular basis. Now that the Spire has been returned to the skies, the Blue Plinth can been seen in a steady orbit around it whenever the Doctor and his companions are present in the Territory. After the Spire was returned to the sky, he discovered a sandy cove on the opposite shoreline to the Starwood Strand. On the landward side it was protected by tiered cliffs, and towards the sea spits of land curved around to form a natural harbour that was all too evident to a Water dragon and a seafarer by trade. Mimir therefore sought to claim the land for the Lundlaevungar. During his explorations, he discovered two natural caves which nature and the tides had carved out of the cliffs. The more secretive of these he claimed as a storage space for the goods he traded, and it quickly became known as the “Smugglers’ Cache”. Later, the second cave became the Clan’s Forge. Moored in the cove is the Black Pearl: a fine three-masted galleon captained by the Pearlcatcher known as Sparrow. The Lundlaevungar had long suspected that Mimir had some kind of pirate ship operating in the waters surrounding their home, but it was only when the Pearl harboured in the cove that they had any proof of such activities. The dragons who decided to live on the Focal Point shore expanded into the tiered cliffs of the Focal Point, creating homes with spectacular sea views on the terraces above the cove. The first sign was when the Twisting Crescendo went still. Most of the Lundlaevungar barely noticed the absence of the westerly breeze that normally drifted through their territory. It was Sparrow and the crew of the Black Pearl who called attention to the fact that the speedy winds that blow from Starwind Bay, bringing up cool air from the Southern Icefield, had gone quiet – and left the galleon becalmed in its moorings, black sails hanging limp in the dead air. The Medium too was badly affected: the airship limped around its habitual loop of the Spire, drifting lower with every circumnavigation without the usual gusts of air to buoy it aloft. As the windless days dragged on, it became increasingly clear that something was wrong. Njord, Mimir and Jormungandr, Corvus, and even Sol who felt little connection with the element of her hatching, began to suffer from unsettling prescient dreams. None of them received a clear message, but all were left with visions of a sea in which no bubbles rose from the deep and a sense that something was about to happen. The Althing Council did their best to calm their clanmates, but with nothing more than foreboding to go on, there was no way to prepare for whatever was about to unfold. Then the moment arrived. Violent tremors ripped through the Starfall Isles as the land’s crystal growths multiplied at an accelerated pace: expanding the Crystalspine Reaches upwards and outwards, and augmenting the Focal Point with new spires and turrets of chalcedony, quartz and rhodochrosite. The dragons living on the Focal Point shoreline were forced to batten down their homes to protect against enormous seismic waves created by the surge of crystal growth, and all but the highest levels of the Cliff Tunnels beneath the Starwood Strand were flooded as the shoreline was battered by the disturbed ocean. The Spire itself was affected by turbulence, not due to any storm but because of the raw magical energies pulsing through the ley lines. The crystal plinth was pitched and tossed as if caught in a slow-motion hurricane, and was stabilised only by the collective efforts of all its inhabitants. Thankfully, no one was badly hurt and nothing irreplaceable was damaged. However, when the land finally stilled and the ocean receded back to its usual breakers and swells, much of the territory was damaged and the Clan had to work hard to put everything to rights once more. Even when everything was restored, the Clan’s concerns lingered. What would be the effect of such intensely increased magic? Would the usual wards be enough to protect their nests and eggs? Loki and Angrboda founded the Clan when they met in the Crystalspine Reaches. Angrboda carved their first home out of a crystal spire that rose out of the sea. The Sprite herself has a strong bond with Loki and the two are rarely seen apart. Though she does not speak Draconic, and he does not understand the language of the Sprites, they seem to find few difficulties in communicating with one another. As the Clan grew, it became apparent that they would soon run out of space within the Spire, and the Lundlaevungar decided to move. They were reluctant to leave their original home, however, and it was Loki who suggested taking the Spire with them to the Starwood Strand. ARRIVAL OF THE BLUE PLINTH
The Clan had not been residing in the Starwood Strand for long when a strange feature was spotted on the horizon.

Now that the Spire has been returned to the skies, the Blue Plinth can been seen in a steady orbit around it whenever the Doctor and his companions are present in the Territory.

arcane_2.png TAKING THE FOCAL POINT SHORELINE
It was Mimir’s idea to expand to the Focal Point. The events which later came to be known across Sornieth as the ‘Bounty of the Elements’ affected the Lundlaevungar as much as any other Arcane clan.

Even those who do not necessarily live inside the Spire itself tend to refer to this when they talk about ‘the Lair’. A main Hub for all members of the Lundlaevungar, the Spire serves as meeting place, council chamber – and ultimately fortress, should the Clan ever find itself under attack. The Spire was Loki and Angrboda’s first home, and the place where they met. The main hall and several other chambers were first hollowed out by Angrboda herself when the pair decided to make it their home. It has since been expanded to accommodate more dragons with the addition of new Clan members.[nextcol][br][item=rose quartz][/columns] [columns][br][nextcol] [nextcol][br]In form, the Spire is a large chunk of dense rock similar to rose-quartz, typical of the Crystalspine Reaches. The top is roughly flat and oval, covered with a lawn of wild grasses, while below the naked rock hangs in two tapering spikes. It floats, suspended by Arcane energies, with no apparent means of support. When Loki and Angrboda found it, the Spire was connected to the land by the two spike, though these had weathered to be so narrow that they were no longer a support and were simply a tether: it was the magic holding it upright even then. The Spire maintains a consistent height above ground at all times. It does occasionally drift with particularly strong air currents, fluctuations in the magical field of the Starfall Isles, and when it is hit by bad weather; however, most of the time no intervention is required to maintain a stationary position. The Spire does have a tendency to rotate, most often widdershins (anticlockwise). This is very slow and barely noticeable from within the Spire; it may complete one rotation each day. Visitors, new arrivals and those who do not habitually stay within the Spire can find this disorientating. [/columns] [br][columns]The interior of the Spire is divided into six layers. The main entrance is located on what is now the second layer, roughly one third down the total length of the Spire, and leads into the largest space in the Lair. This is in fact the original entrance and the first cave that Angrboda hollowed out. What was once an all-purpose space is now a large communal chamber where meetings and social gatherings take place. Apart from the main entrance, there are no windows; supplemental light is provided by the Lightwell, the fire-pit, and Glowing Pocket Baubles. Spiral staircases at either end of the main hall lead to the other layers, following the outer curves of the Spire. The stairs themselves are ‘open’ and roughly wedge-shaped, which can be somewhat disconcerting for heavier dragons! Some small dragons who are able to use the Lightwell as an access point can request permission to access the well this way. At the very base of the Vault is the Clan’s well, which was created as a result of the Lightwell. Rainwater and condensation collects and runs down the length of the Lightwell, falling ultimately into a pool. The Clan uses this as its main source of water, both for drinking and for washing, and is careful to ensure that there is no possibility of flooding. Corvus is the Clan’s Vaultkeeper. As he is from the Water Flight, he can manipulate conditions in the Vault to ensure that nothing ends up damp as a result of close proximity to the well. Usually dragons use their personal basins in the Lightwell as a water supply, but when large quantities of water are needed they normally make the trip down to the Vault. dhIg3um.png THE SPIRE
.
.
.
.
When the majority of Clan members speak of ‘home’, this is what they are referring to: the great Spire of the Lundlaevungar.

It has since been expanded to accommodate more dragons with the addition of new Clan members.

tumblr_nqnfq56v3K1sipnj1o3_r1_100.png
In form, the Spire is a large chunk of dense rock similar to rose-quartz, typical of the Crystalspine Reaches.

The interior of the Spire is divided into six layers.

However, magic reinforces each step to ensure that even if they break away from the wall, they remain in place; this has happened in a couple of places throughout the Spire. There is enough space in the stairwells to allow smaller dragons to fly up and down. The stairwells are lit by small slit windows, none of which are large enough to be used as an entry point except by small familiars. At night, Glowing Pocket Baubles provide illumination. Periodic landings provide access to the interior chambers.

Loki’s chambers are located in the topmost layer of the Spire, and are the largest personal quarters. He shares these with Angrboda. Also on the top layer is the Clan’s library, where quiet study is undertaken. This also serves as a teaching room.

On the third layer, the structure splits into the Spire’s distinctive pair of asymmetrical spikes. The shorter spike contains a single room: the Hoard. This is directly accessible from the main hall. The long spike contains four more layers, three of which are residential, and finally culminating in a Vault layer at the base of the spike.

THE LIGHTWELL
The Spire is predominantly lit by the Lightwell. This structure runs vertically down the longer of the Spire’s two spikes. It is essentially a cylindrical hollow, the outer wall of which is a super-fine layer of crystal that allows light to penetrate. Mirrors positioned at strategic intervals help to capture sunlight and reflect it down to the base of the Spire.

All of the personal quarters connect to the Lightwell. Each chamber has at least one ‘window’ looking out into the Lightwell, with a shallow basin outside for collecting small amounts of drinking water.

These windows also allow for quick communication between layers. However, as the Lightwell is also something of an echo-chamber, this can be quite disruptive.

Some of the ‘windows’ are large enough for small dragon breeds and flying familiars to use them as access points.

THE HOARD
Located in the shorter of the Spire’s spikes, the Hoard is a repository for all of the Clan’s communal belongings, including food. A central column hangs from the ceiling to the deepest point of the spike, and the spiral staircase follows this down. Large shelves and storage spaces have been cut into the walls and column, to ensure that there is space enough for everything.

This is the only room in the Spire not connected to the Lightwell, and as such is one of the darkest. Some natural light does penetrate through a number of small windows cut into the outer walls. These are all glazed or barred to permit entry even to hatchlings or tiny familiars, as a security precaution.

THE VAULT
The Vault was one of the last additions to the Spire, in the deepest point of the long spike, and contains all of the Clan’s treasures as well as all of the Lundlaevungar coin. It is lit by the Lightwell, which here tapers to an open point. There are no windows or air holes, and the base of the Lightwell is protected with a shield charm to prevent theft.

However, lazy dragons may call on their Water Flight friends to summon some up the Lightwell for them!

They meant for the Spire to spin gently above the trees, while they expanded their home into the woods below. When the Spire crashed onto the clifftop, their plans were forced to change, but not so drastically as they imagined in the immediate aftermath of the disaster: they were still able to carve out a new home as they had hoped. Since the Spire's return to the skies, the areas of the Starwood Strand claimed by the Lundlaevungar have remained in use. Some of the dragons remained in permanent residence and those who live in the Spire frequently visit: the clifftop, beach and gardens are now leisure areas as well as good spots for training. The borders are patrolled by the Clan's warriors and guarded by Familiars and spells alike. The Lundlaevungar's long residence in the Star Wood also made their presence well-known, and allowed the Clan to map out the woods and their dangers. This makes the Clan's Starwood Strand territory a secure area for foraging, and even hatchlings are safe to explore the woods under the watchful eyes of their parents or minders. [br][columns][item=morganite][nextcol]THE SCAR & CLIFF TUNNELS[/columns] The Scar has been in existence since the Spire crashed in the Starwood Strand, but only gained the name after the Spire itself returned to the skies. It is the name given to the welt left in the landscape by the crash and the area where the Spire once lay. The ground here is mostly exposed rock or rocky earth. Plant life originally found it difficult to survive here, though grasses are now starting to encroach on the rock. During rainy periods, water collects in the deepest part of the Scar, forming a pool, and sometimes a small waterfall can occur over the cliff onto the beach. The Scar is most often used as a training arena for young fighters. It has also been used for communal festivals and large, open-air gatherings. The area near the Scar along the cliff top was cleared of trees by the Lundlaevungar while they were living in the area. A small clearing was also created at the ‘top’ of the fallen Spire. Both of these areas support grasses and wildflowers, and the dragons’ garden of flowers, herbs and crops is tended by those who live on this shoreline. Low-lying plant life is starting to spread out from the trees again to reclaim this area, though no trees have so far started to grow there again. A series of tunnels and chambers riddle the cliffs below the Scar, stretching for miles in every direction beneath the Starwood Strand. The tunnels were created while the Spire lay among the trees, and the main entrance is on the southern side of the Scar. However, there are also many more secret access points scattered throughout the Star Wood and several in caves along the cliffs. Some of these are protected by magic and require passwords or spells to open, while others are hidden by more commonplace means. No one has even mapped the tunnel system, and not even the Lundlaevungar are sure just how extensive they are: new tunnels sometimes seem to just appear overnight with no explanation. Although not part of the tunnels, there is a narrow spiral staircase cut into the cliffs to provide access to the beach. This occasionally floods when there is an extremely high tide. The areas close to the surface are comfortable and pleasant; they mostly comprise living quarters, with several larger communal halls and storage spaces. Glazed skylights provide natural light, and high ceilings combined with murals and tapestries help to make the space feel large and airy despite being underground. These spaces were mostly used by the Lundlaevungar during their spell in the Starwood Strand. These are now used as guest quarters, housing for the Clan’s Familiar and Beastclan population, and barracks for combat trainees. However, some members of the Clan choose to live in the Starwood Strand and have claimed quarters as their own. On the lower levels there are a number of subterranean laboratories for the Clan’s scientists and experimental magic users. These chambers often have thicker walls and can easily be blocked off in the event of a test gone awry. Deeper down, space within the tunnels can seem oddly warped and it is very easy to get lost. Some areas are no longer lit or maintained. Most of the Lundlaevungar avoid venturing too far into the tunnel system, as they are not sure what they might find … [br][columns][Item=sakura moss][nextcol]THE AVENGERS' TOWER[/columns] Named by Stark – and indeed created by him – the Avengers' Tower is the Lundlaevungar’s military outpost in the Starwood Strand. The Tower is a symbol of the Clan’s continued residence in the area. The ‘Tower’ is not actually a built structure, but rather a living tree – one of the largest that the Clan encountered during their spell in the Starwood Strand. Discovered during their clearing of the cliff top, this vast tree was deemed too large and impressive to be felled; it now stands in a cleared area stop the cliff, close to the Scar. At some point in its history, prior to the Lundlaevungar’s arrival in the area, the tree was struck by lightning. It was left partially dead as a result. These areas have been hollowed out into a series of private chambers, meeting rooms and storage spaces – leaving the tree’s living parts to continue to grow around them. One interesting feature is the landing platform that stretches out over the cliff edge above the beach. During its growth, the tree trunk forked, one section reaching out towards the sea while the other continued to grow vertically. The section of trunk pointing towards the sea was deemed dead, and so was cleaved in half to give a horizontal platform. However, interestingly, some sections of the lower half of the platform remained alive – a fact only discovered when the underside sprouted fresh leaves the spring after it was cut. The Tower is connected to the Cliffside tunnels, and this is the most frequently used entrance to the tunnels now. Stark maintains several private laboratories in the tunnels close to the Tower. The Tower is vital to the Lundlaevungar military efforts. A lot of the Clan’s training equipment is stored here, and its inhabitants often offer their expertise to those wishing to improve their skills in combat. However, the Tower is more than just a military base: it is also a comfortable home for those living there. It always provides a warm welcome to guests and new members of the Clan.

Most of the Lundlaevungar avoid venturing too far into the tunnel system, as they are not sure what they might find …

THE AVENGERS' TOWER
Named by Stark – and indeed created by him – the Avengers' Tower is the Lundlaevungar’s military outpost in the Starwood Strand.

The settlement is based around the cove that Mimir originally found and claimed for the Clan and in the terraces immediately above it. Unlike the vast Cliff Tunnels beneath the Star Wood, the Lundlaevungar’s dwellings here are modest in size and style, though they are comfortable and generally lighter and more airy than rooms elsewhere in the territory. Members of the clan who make their homes elsewhere enjoy visiting the Focal Point to take a break from their normal duties. There is an atmosphere of calm and respite to the cove and the terraces, scarcely broken even when Mimir and the crew of the Black Pearl are loading or unloading the ship, or the sounds of Jorsalafar in his forge spill out onto the beach. [br][columns][item=sand][nextcol]SMUGGLERS' COVE[/columns] The white sand beach of the Smugglers’ Cove backs directly onto the terraced cliffs of the Focal Point. The waves that hit the shore are gentle as the cove is a natural harbour, protected by two long spits of land that curve around to create something like a lagoon. The sand is fine and smooth, and becomes very hot in the summer sunshine. The lowest level of the cliffs is taller than the rest. When Mimir first found the area, he discovered two natural caves there: one a small cavern, and the second barely more than a fissure between two seams of rock. However, further investigation of this crack showed that inside, hidden behind a jagged corner of stone, it widened into a much larger space. Mimir claimed it for his own as both a home and a place to store the goods that he and the crew of the Black Pearl trade. He kept the entrance as small and secret as he was able, but expanded the interior to create a large storage area. Behind this storeroom, he made himself a comfortable and even lavish home. He has few visitors, but those who do venture beyond the crates and hoarded trinkets of the “Smuggler’s Cache” are surprised to find a little cavern draped in swags of plush fabrics, furnished in dark wood and with a boarded floor, candle-lit and warm – and in the centre Mimir counting out the day’s earnings into a chest. [br][columns][item=small block of granite][nextcol]THE TERRACES[/columns] In the tiered cliffs that rise steadily above the cove, the Clan has dug out a series of comfortable cave dwellings which are now known as the Terraces. Unlike the Cliff Tunnels on the opposite shore, these only extend one room deep into the rock, allowing them to be naturally lit during the day. The walls are rough-hewn but have been whitewashed, and the rooms are both light and airy with arching windows of varying sizes that look out over the cove and the sea beyond. Shutters protect the interior from the weather, when needed, though Water and Wind residents tend to use their magic as an aid in this. Each dragon who makes their home at the Focal Point has a small suite of rooms, each slightly different, as well as a patch of the flat terrace outside to call their garden. Some simply keep this area grassed over or let it grow wild, while others enjoy planting flowers or their favourite vegetables. The Terraces cover a significant portion of the shoreline, horizontally and vertically, with the option to extend Northwards should the Clan need more space. [br][columns][item=metallurgists forgetools][nextcol]THE FORGE[/columns] The second cave on the Smugglers’ Cove beach was claimed by Jorsalafar when he joined the Clan, and it quickly became known as the Forge. Jorsalafar never felt entirely comfortable in the Spire and wanted his forge on solid land. At Eisa’s insistence, Kvika reluctantly assisted him in hollowing out more of the cliff to create a larger and deeper cavern, which would allow him to live on the beach as well as work there. Thanks to his Fire origins, Jorsalafar is able to conjure up flames with very little smoke, thus enabling him to perform his metalwork in the deepest part of the cavern where the sound of hammering is dampened by the solid rock. He is therefore able to continue his smithing without disturbing the dragons who live on the Terraces above. The interior walls and floor of the Forge are glassy black and smooth: Jorsalafar and Kvika actually heated the rock to its melting point and then slowly cooled it to create an obsidian finish. Jorsalafar keeps his furnace burning at all times using a magic, which means that the interior of the Forge is always a few degrees hotter than elsewhere in the Lundlaevungar Territory, and there is a constant haze of smoke around the high ceilings. The Lundlaevungar territory does not stretch far inland at the Focal Point.

SMUGGLERS' COVE
The white sand beach of the Smugglers’ Cove backs directly onto the terraced cliffs of the Focal Point.

THE TERRACES
In the tiered cliffs that rise steadily above the cove, the Clan has dug out a series of comfortable cave dwellings which are now known as the Terraces.

Some simply keep this area grassed over or let it grow wild, while others enjoy planting flowers or their favourite vegetables.

The Terraces cover a significant portion of the shoreline, horizontally and vertically, with the option to extend Northwards should the Clan need more space.

THE FORGE
The second cave on the Smugglers’ Cove beach was claimed by Jorsalafar when he joined the Clan, and it quickly became known as the Forge.

[columns][nextcol]ORBITING THE SPIRE . . . .[/columns] Numerous smaller chunks of quartz are in synchronous orbit of the Spire. Many are large enough for Clan members to perch upon, though adults who choose to do so run the risk of causing the rock to slowly sink. Hatchlings often use these in games of aerial hide-and-seek and as place to store their individual treasures away from parental eyes. There are two striking features in the skies around the Spire: the Blue Plinth and the Medium. Both provide a home to dragons who are considered nominal members of the Lundlaevungar. The dragons and beastkind who reside in the Blue Plinth - and indeed the Plinth itself - frequently depart on adventures of their own. However, when they are in the Lundlaevungar territory they interact with the rest of the Clan on mostly friendly terms. The inhabitants of the Medium, meanwhile, keep themselves to themselves and remain part of the Clan by proxy as their home is so close to the Spire, and they are too few and too young to survive alone. [br][columns][item=blue quartz][nextcol]THE BLUE PLINTH[/columns] [columns]A floating plinth made entirely of dark blue quartz is the home of the shapeshifting Doctor and their companions. No one is quite sure how four dragons and so many familiars fit into such a relatively small space, and those who might know the answer are resolutely not telling. There is speculation that the plinth is larger on the inside … The Doctor and their companions call their home ‘the T.A.R.D.I.S.’. Since the Blue Plinth is also home to the Imperial the Doctor calls ‘the Tardis’, this causes some confusion among the rest of the Lundlaevungar. They refer to it as ‘The Blue Plinth’ instead. The Blue Plinth is much smaller than the Spire, though there is enough room on top for Tardis. This is her favoured spot, and she is often seen comfortably curled there, her tail hanging over the side. The upper half of the Blue Plinth is roughly cuboid; the lower half twists and tapers into a point. A geometric pattern of rectangles have been cut into each of the plinth’s faces, becoming smaller as the shape narrows. The top row of the pattern doubles as a series of windows, glazed with opaque panes of smoky quartz. One of the panels in the pattern also contains a complex carving of interconnected circles and lines. The top of the plinth is not flat, but rather a square-based pyramid with a pulsing lantern fitted to the peak.[nextcol][nextcol][/columns] The Blue Plinth is made of a particularly dark variety of blue quartz that none of the Lundlaevungar have seen elsewhere. When it is in Lundlaevungar territory, the Blue Plinth orbits the Spire. It constantly spins, though the direction and speed of rotation changes frequently. Generally, it revolves much more quickly than the Spire. However, the Blue Plinth often disappears for days or weeks at a time – and the Doctor inevitably returns with a new tale to tell. The Imperial known as the Tardis is ultimately in charge of the Blue Plinth, and indeed seems to share some kind of connection with the structure. Her magic keeps it afloat, and she appears to be in charge of when and where the plinth moves; her power is immense to accomplish this. The two spirals Space and Time assist with physically moving the Blue Plinth; they wrap their bodies around it and push it through the air in a distinctively Spiral flying pattern. Although members of the Lundlaevungar are welcome to inspect the Blue Plinth at close quarters, very few have been invited inside. In order to enter the Blue Plinth, a ‘key’ is required. The Doctor is reluctant to give more details than this – even to reveal whether the ‘key’ is physical or a spell or a password – but each of his companions has one with which to enter. The dragon known as River Song sometimes joins the Doctor in the Blue Plinth; however, she does not regard this as her permanent home and spends the majority of her time in her research facility in the Cliff Tunnels or on archaeological expeditions. [br][columns][nextcol]THE MEDIUM[/columns] The Medium is an airship – a vast envelope with blue and green panels, patched with chequerboard cloth, below which hangs the purple-grey form of a meteor. These days, the meteor is well-camouflaged behind gantries, external decks and the aerodynamic curves of the ship’s stabilising fins and keel. However, a chunk of astral rock still sits at the heart of the Medium, and it has not forgotten that once it spun through the blank void of space. It resists the pull of gravity even now: buoyed by its own, alien magics and tugging fitfully at the thick ropes that tether it to the balloon above. The meteor’s inherent forces are not enough to hold it aloft without the envelope, but they do provide thrust to the airship that has been constructed around it. Jade has learned how to channel the magic and uses it to steer the Medium without the need of sails, propellers or engines. As a result, the ship leaves in its wake a purplish comet-trail that fades slowly. When at rest, the meteor glows with a faint, irregular light that sometimes flares into bursts of harmless, Arcane-hued flame. A series of eight decorative balloons are tethered around the equator of the envelope, each one designed and maintained by one of the Alphas or the Betas. There are also two larger balloon decorations attached to the spine of the envelope, one golden and one deep purple, both emblazoned with crescent moon and crown designs. The meteor itself is hollow, and the interior has been converted into a series of private lairs and common rooms for the crew. All the dragons of the Medium are juveniles: out of hatchlinghood, but not yet quite adults. There is some dispute over how old they actually are, as they observe strange calendars that do not match with Sornieth’s festivals and dates, and they do not seem to age regardless of how much time passes. They are mysteriously vague about the locations of their respective parents. The crew is divided into three groups: the Alphas, who form the day shift; the Betas, who take the night shift; and a Mirror pack known as the Trolls who act as engineers and auxiliary crew. None of the Lundlaevungar can work out how they came to be allies, let alone how they harnessed a meteor and crafted from it a spectacular airship, when petty squabbles break out on a regular basis both between and within the three factions. However, the crew of the Medium are unconditionally loyal to their airship. They also seem to like and respect the pair of dragons who share the role of captain: John, one of the Betas, and Karkat, the elected leader of the Trolls. For all their many differences, the crew of the Medium share one thing in common: none of them feel any affinity with their natural Flight. The Trolls do not use magic at all. Instead, they have become adept with technology and are responsible for many of the Medium’s advancements. dhIg3um.png ORBITING THE SPIRE
.
.
.
.
Numerous smaller chunks of quartz are in synchronous orbit of the Spire.

THE BLUE PLINTH
A floating plinth made entirely of dark blue quartz is the home of the shapeshifting Doctor and their companions. No one is quite sure how four dragons and so many familiars fit into such a relatively small space, and those who might know the answer are resolutely not telling. There is speculation that the plinth is larger on the inside …

The Doctor and their companions call their home ‘the T.A.R.D.I.S.’.

The top of the plinth is not flat, but rather a square-based pyramid with a pulsing lantern fitted to the peak.
Rs3BV93.png YO1KDoB.png

The Blue Plinth is made of a particularly dark variety of blue quartz that none of the Lundlaevungar have seen elsewhere.

The dragon known as River Song sometimes joins the Doctor in the Blue Plinth; however, she does not regard this as her permanent home and spends the majority of her time in her research facility in the Cliff Tunnels or on archaeological expeditions.

wind_2.png THE MEDIUM
The Medium is an airship – a vast envelope with blue and green panels, patched with chequerboard cloth, below which hangs the purple-grey form of a meteor.

Meanwhile, the Alphas and Betas claim that they can manipulate magics beyond the usual eleven Flights, which can normally only be accessed through runestones, by tapping into their ‘aspects’. What this really means is unclear.

However, broadly speaking, the dragons and Beastclan of the Lundlaevungar are accepting of one another. Although individual Clan members are allowed their own beliefs, it is frowned upon to jeopardise the Lundlaevungar’s relations with other Clans or with local Beastclans because of personal prejudices. Angrboda, meanwhile, knows the inner workings of the Clan better than any other; this allows her to see how their plans might affect the dragons who make up the Clan. She also brings a great deal of experience in battle to the table, and in some respects is superior at planning defensive strategies than Thor. Once a year during the Month of Dragons’ Rest, the Althing Council holds a formal meeting in the main chamber of the Spire. This meeting is known simply as ‘the Althing’. As Dragons’ Rest is one of the winter months, and not dedicated to a specific deity, all members of the Clan are therefore able to attend without interrupting their personal pilgrimages or trade expeditions. The Althing traditionally takes place over several days immediately prior to the Night of the Nocturne celebrations, allowing the Clan to conduct their most serious business before the trickery begins. All of the Lundlaevungar have a voice at the Althing; the only rule is that everyone must wait their turn, and not speak over one another. This is stringently enforced by Angrboda, who believes in the equality they have established. The Althing gives the Lundlaevungar an opportunity to make official requests, and also gives the Council the chance to discuss any matters that affect the whole Clan. The Althing also allows the Lundlaevungar to air any grievances they might have: both parties are given the opportunity to speak before the whole Clan, as are any other dragons with relevant information, before members of the Council make an official ruling. This happens rarely: the dragons of the Lundlaevungar prefer to work out their problems privately during the course of the year, and it is only in extreme cases that this system is used. As the Althing serves as a prelude to the Night of the Nocturne not everything is serious: there are evenings of storytelling, poetry recitals, songs, feasting, and general merriment. This is the one time of year that the whole Clan is guaranteed to be together, and they make the most of the occasion. Everyone traditionally remains in the Spire for the Night of the Nocturne celebrations, rather than dispersing back to their usual homes across the territory as soon as the Althing is over, which makes this one of the most special occasions in the Sornieth calendar for the Clan. Loki sometimes convenes the Althing Council at other times throughout the year, though in a much more informal capacity. Usually these meetings are little more than a casual discussion. Other members of the Clan will always be invited if the discussion is relevant to them or their area of expertise. Individual members of the Council habitually talk with one other in turn before coming to a decision, rather than gathering the whole group. THE ALTHING COUNCIL
Loki is the leader of the Lundlaevungar, but his word is not law. The Clan is governed by the Althing Council: a group of dragons whose skills and interests lie in vastly different areas, and who pool their knowledge and ideas to ensure that the Clan’s future is fruitful.

SCHOLARS OF THE ARCANIST
The Clan has a complex relationship with the Arcanist.

The effects of Arcane energies on Loki and Angrboda’s offspring have created a certain ambivalence towards the Arcanist’s power, and in particular towards his lack of control – or, as some see it, his lack of care. Arcane Flight Forum

Loki allied the Lundlaevungar with the Bounty Hunter's Guild to obtain riches and glory - and yet, in recent times, they had received few jobs of note or worth. Then Loki found out about a dragon, known only as "Traitor", lurking in the depths of one of Sornieth's most treacherous dungeons. Against the advice of his Clanmates, he ventured in ...

After their events, the clan members wandered the festival grounds, enjoying the other activities. Skadi somehow found herself at the "Adopt-a-Familiar" booth run by an energetic Spiral. The next thing she knew, Skadi had a native to the Boreal Woods (a Nochnyr) to take back to her clan with her. Jormungandr visited one of the winter gear booths and came out the proud owner of an Ice Pick. Skald went into a nearby booth with more of a fashion slant and settled on a black and white flair scarf to guard against the chill in the air. On his way out, a shy hatchling approached him, complimented him on his performance, and handed him a flower before scurrying off. Although their clan didn't make it onto the podium this year, they performed very respectably and impressed the judges.
