___ A Kingdomlocke.

Some say that times forgotten are best left to the past. Unrecorded histories reflect insignificance, knowledge that is unnecessary. But is that really so true?

Time can be cruel--it does not always care for the things that are truly important. Does the life of a dragon matter? It does to their friends. The secrets and happenings that lay unrevealed serve only to reflect the limits of a world's passing perspective. Dig deeper--you will learn more than you ever thought possible.

I did. And I will share what I found.

If the Royal would lose a life in battle (beastclan ambush, coup, assassin, etc.), the Knight loses a life instead unless they are the perpetrator (such as being rolled to role change into Royal). 4. Alchemist - For SCIENCE! You can give one dragon one gene or breed change every day. If a dragon receives a gene/breed change they roll a d20. On a 1 the dragon dies in the experiment. If the dragons survive they gain an extra life. You cannot add more than 3 genes to a dragon. You can only change a dragon's breed and eye type once. || Genes and breeds cannot be changed without an Alchemist. 5. Healer - Death shall not take thee! When a dragon dies on a coliseum team with the Healer you can flip a coin and see if you can heal them. If the doctor dies they cannot heal themselves.
Heads = Live Tails = Die.
6. Beastmaster - I hope you’re not allergic to pets. You can give one dragon one familiar per day. Familiars are just for fun and don't add anything to the challenge. Familiars must be acquired in coli or, alternatively, can be purchased from the "marketplace" (any familiar in your hoard). If purchased from the marketplace, the beastmaster has to roll a 1d20 for travel. || If you don’t have a familiar caretaker you cannot give the kingdom familiars. 7. Nest Caretaker - This egg is cuter than that one! Increase your hatchling's chances for survival! Instead of flipping a coin for each egg hatched, you roll a 1d4. On a 1 the hatchling is exalted. Instead of rolling a 1d6 daily for each hatchling who isn’t aged up, you roll a d12. On a 1 the hatchling is exalted. This role does not stack. 8. Name Scribe - What an unfortunate name… Let's you choose the names of your dragons instead of generating them. You can also rename one dragon a day! 9. Matchmaker - I think the two of you would be very suitable for one another... Matchmakers allow you to “match” dragons and create a permanent pair. Once a pair is permanent they can breed at any time, but cannot breed with any other dragons unless their spousal dragon dies. If either spousal dragon dies they have to flip a coin. on tails, they have a death bond and are both exalted regardless of any lives. Matchmakers can make one pair a day. 10. Scout - What's that over there?! Lets you choose what area in the coliseum you battle in. 11. Librarian - A true bookwyrm. These well-read dragons are very keen when it comes to secret plots. If there is an assassin in the clan, change their daily roll to a d6. A roll of 5 is equivalent to a roll of 2, and a roll of 6 is equivalent to a roll of 4. This role does not stack. 12. Artist - Paint everywhere! You can give one dragon a scene every day. Scenes are just for fun and don’t add anything to the challenge. || If you don’t have an artist, you cannot give any dragon a scene. 13. Gardener - Nature holds the key. These dragons beautify the grounds around your kingdom and make it more appealing to passerby. If you pull an apparel item from Pinkerton but don’t have any RTB dragons, you can buy one adult dragon off the AH instead. 14. Carpenter - Makes really nice cabinets. Is that mahogany? The artistry of these dragons brings legitimacy to the Ruler’s palace. Roll one less d20 when a coup occurs. This role does not stack. 15. Blacksmith - Hot off the anvil! Use one gathering turn to dig each day. For every piece of ore gained, roll a 1d10. On a roll of 10, the Blacksmith forges a piece of armor for a random dragon in the kingdom and they gain an extra life. You may add a corresponding armor apparel piece to that same dragon if you would like to do so. 16. Engineer - A cog in the machine. The clever inventions of these dragons help streamline the tasks of others. Choose one dragon (other than an Assassin) whose role has a daily ability. That dragon may perform their role ability twice. 17. Sailor - Have you ever seen a Merdragon? If a dragon’s role requires travel (such as the merchant and the tailor), any death rolls associated with their travel are skipped. 18. Architect - Did you need that wall? The thoughtful designs crafted by these dragons make the palace more sturdy against outside attacks. Instead of rolling a d12 for each dragon during a Beastclan Attack, roll a d20. 19. Merchant - A bargain! A merchant may travel to “purchase” (read: transfer from your own hoard into the ownership of the kingdom) 1d4 items needed or wanted by the clan each day, such as apparel, familiars, battlestones that the clan has not yet found, etc. Such journeys are not without risk, however. Roll a d20 any time they embark to trade; if a 1 is rolled, they die along the way. 20. Royal - The leader. There can only be one. If another dragon rolls for the leader while there is one already, the two dragons then battle, and a 1d4 is rolled to see what happens.
1. Both dragons die. 2. The leader dies and the new leader is crowned. 3. The challenging dragon dies and the old leader continues their reign. 4. Misunderstanding. They choose not to duel and the leader lets them reroll for a career.
The Royal is also responsible for populating your clan. They can nest at any time as soon as their cooldown is over. Furthermore, the Royal may choose to equip scenes, familiars, and apparel without the respective roles present in their kingdom. The royal is immune to death, but ONLY in the coli during food pulls or if otherwise specified. If your Royal is killed and there are no dragons to take their place, the challenge is over. Dragons who become Royal must quit their previous jobs.
[nextcol]____[/columns]

5. Healer - Death shall not take thee!
When a dragon dies on a coliseum team with the Healer you can flip a coin and see if you can heal them. If the doctor dies they cannot heal themselves.
Heads = Live
Tails = Die.

8. Name Scribe - What an unfortunate name…
Let's you choose the names of your dragons instead of generating them.

Their voices were unique among the cacophany of the dead, lingering in her ears and filling her with purpose. Even now that she had been with the clan for months, she still had yet to encounter every spirit that called the vast territory their home. For centuries, the land had been soaked with pain and bloodshed. There were so many voices to soothe into slumber, each in need of closure that had been buried by the centuries. It was a mammoth task to provide each what they sought, and some had become so comfortable in their long stay that they would rather not leave to begin with. Each day brought new discoveries, new frustrations, and new goals. Though she was isolated among her kind, she did not lack for things to draw her attention. One voice in particular had long nagged at her thoughts. It was a mournful voice, one distorted by age and magic. Unlike many of the spirits in Thunder Hollow, which wandered aimlessly near the place their body lay, this one defied all attempts to locate it. It cried out, “help me, hear me,” and yet there were times Kora wondered if it even existed at all. It was the unique talent of the Mourning Flowers to see and find the souls of the dead, and yet this one always seemed far out of reach. She had been forced to acquaint herself with some of the Living in order to ask questions—was the magic distorted in any areas? Had some portions of the territory not been charted? The answers she received were mixed, flavored with various degrees of confusion. But there was one whose answer held promise. He told her of the Pathless Wood. It was a strange place, he said. Though the rest of the land had no magic at all, the Pathless Wood had managed to retain some—in a peculiar and twisted form. Those unfortunate enough to stray into the eerie copse of trees could not leave the way they came. Every attempt to navigate it, from leaving clawmarks on the trees to tying string just outside the forest, proved fruitless the moment one trespassed. Even he, said the dragon, could not stray far inside, and he had the heart of a woodsman. Something twisted and dark called the place its home; it was best to stay away. To Kora, this description was the one she needed to hear. A distorted haven, obscured by magic, could certainly be what befuddled her as she searched for that absent voice. The dragon who had helped her was hesitant to direct her to the Wood, but he eventually acquiesced and lead her there himself. Purposed, she followed his directions to the outer edge of an independent grove—The Pathless Wood. The world grew silent as she approached, even the spirits pausing their laments. No sounds of life could be heard from the Wood itself. The birds did not sing, nor did the wind brush through the leaves. Kora had been formed in the land of death itself, and yet even she was bothered by the eerie stillness. Something was deeply wrong about the place. And yet… “H-“ A spirit spoke. “Hello?” Its voice was distorted, as though the word had been spoken through a tube. Despite the strange echoes, there was no mistake where the spirit had been crying from. She was in the right place, after all. With a grateful nod to her guide, Kora steeled herself and stepped into the shadows. Another step, and the world behind her was gone. There was only one way to go—forward, into the depths and the darkness. Every step she took brought her closer. The spirit’s voice grew louder. “Can you hear me?” “Will you listen?” “Please help me.” “Please, remember me.” It was mournful but insistent, its voice thin from age and mangled by whatever foul magic made the Wood its home. How long had it been trapped? ’Too long, Kora mused to herself, ’Far too long.’ The trees around her grew increasingly gnarled, their branches skeletal as they tangled over the path. Mushrooms flourished in the shadows, their bright caps tempting foolish dragons to doom. Every now and again, a patch of rich green moss bloomed in the faint beams of light, reminding Kora of the world beyond the forest. Somehow, in the few minutes she had been walking, she had begun to forget it. Not much, but a little. A glint of light caught her eye from the side of the path, drawing her attention away from the spirit’s steady voice. A shard of glass—no, a piece of a shattered mirror—had been stabbed into the leaf litter. Kora felt her heart flutter, a small piece of her mortal form recoiling against the wrongness of seeing something so out of place. She approached it, waiting for the light to shift and reveal a small piece of herself. Anything that would prove its mundaneness. The light shifted, and a red eye glared out at her. She jumped back, her heart pumping full-throttle in her chest. Her eyes were the pale white of a snowstorm, and yet the ones boring into her from the mirror were red—blood red. When she looked back, the image was gone, and the spirit’s voice broke through the rushing in her ears. “See me. Follow me.” Kora looked ahead, and more pieces of the mirror lined the path. Some were small—the size of a claw or smaller. Some were as large as her head. Flickering images danced in all of them—a feather here, an eye there. But never the complete picture. The shards led deeper and deeper, yet the forest seemed to grow lighter around her. Dazzling sunrays lanced off the mirrors, obscuring Kora’s vision as she pushed down the path. Was it a trick? The nature of a Mourning Flower was one all souls seemed to innately understand, but it was possible that the dark magic in the Wood had corrupted whatever remnant now called the twisted forest home. It was a nervous thought, but her duty was too great to abandon. She would take what came as it happened. The mirror pieces grew larger. The forest path grew brigher. And then, all of a sudden, she found herself standing in a clearing. A clearing with grass and light, with air and wind and…well, there was no birdsong. But it was clear that this small oasis was nothing like the forest which surrounded it on all sides; perhaps, she had not been fooled after all. Across the dell, surrounded by rubble and fallen stones, was a crumbling archway. An immense mirror hung within it, suspended by rusted chains. And reflected in its panels, distorted by the threadlike cracks that spanned its surface, was a figure that did not belong to Kora. Gleaming red eyes stared mournfully through the visor of a dark helmet. Ghostly fur wreathed the creature’s body, which was dressed in rags and tarnished silver jewelry. It hesitantly raised a paw—in greeting, in wistfulness, Kora wasn’t quite sure—and seemed to press against the mirror from the inside. Why wasn’t it free? ’Spirit,’ Kora addressed in the silent tongue of souls, ‘What has happened to you?’ The dragon in the mirror recoiled, a dark look crossing its shaded eyes. “Can you…?” it trailed, its voice muffled, “Can you hear me?” ‘Yes. I am of the Mourning Flowers, and I am here to put your soul at ease.’ The spirit’s shoulders seemed to sag, its wings falling in a gesture of relief and defeat. “You can’t,” it mourned, “I…cannot escape this prison. It is my curse- to remain here for all of eternity, watching these woods fall deeper and deeper into ruin. No effort could free me. None.” Kora paused to consider what she had been told, sitting down in the grass across from the mirror. She had never dealt with curses, nor even heard of a spirit who had been bound by one. She was ill-equipped, but already in too deep to turn back. Taking a breath, she asked a simple question, ‘Why?’ The spirit cocked its head, “Why…? Why was I cursed?” Kora nodded. ‘Knowing the reason may be just what I need to set you free.’ The spirit laughed a dry, hollow laugh. “If only that were true. But I have spent the centuries longing for someone to talk to. If you are truly willing to know, I will tell you.” Locking eyes with the spirit, Kora inclined her head. The ghost of a smile peeked from behind the spirit’s mask, and then it began to speak.[nextcol]____[/columns]
[emoji=comment size=1] So it begins! ____ From the moment she arrived on the Waking Plane, Kora had been drawn to the souls that lingered in Thunder Hollow.

And yet…

“H-“

A spirit spoke.

“Hello?”

Its voice was distorted, as though the word had been spoken through a tube.

“Can you hear me?”

“Will you listen?”

“Please help me.”

“Please, remember me.”

It was mournful but insistent, its voice thin from age and mangled by whatever foul magic made the Wood its home. How long had it been trapped? ’Too long, Kora mused to herself, ’Far too long.’

The trees around her grew increasingly gnarled, their branches skeletal as they tangled over the path. Mushrooms flourished in the shadows, their bright caps tempting foolish dragons to doom. Every now and again, a patch of rich green moss bloomed in the faint beams of light, reminding Kora of the world beyond the forest.
