Taking the form of the Gaolers, she stepped forth into the frigid winds with nary a flinch, and as the winds whipped around her the purpose of her existence became clear- care for the deceased and shepherd their souls. Not the most specific of purposes, but one she allowed to sink into her heart, the warmth of it pressing against the insides of her ribs. Yes, she would do this. She would make it her task to ensure no restless soul went forgotten and lost, the flowers growing from her coat yearning to take root so they could soothe brittle bones, and power drawn directly from the Beyond thrummed through her numb body. A worthy task. One she could take pride in, could dedicate her mortal years to, and one she would not fail. With that in mind, she shook the snow that'd gathered off her back and gazed into the blizzard's maw. [*] All hatchlings/dragons listed here must be possible to obtain for [b]free[/b] (name to claim, adoption form, etc) in some way, shape, or form. You are free to include an [i]option[/i] to purchase with currency/trade if you want to. [*] Every Flower is assigned a generational number depending on how closely related they are to the Founders (Gladioli or Carnations). The Founders make up Generation 0. Their children will become either G1-G (Gladioli) or G1-C (Carnations), and so on. Do not breed Flowers together with other Flowers. They may be crossed with outside lineages a maximum of [b][i]two times[/i][/b], meaning that a Flower may generally not be a part of multi-lineage lines (those born before 28.02.24 are exempt to this rule). [*]The intent of this project is to spread the Flowers' lineage and it is preferred that those obtaining a Flower does so with the intent to breed them. If you do breed your Flowers, please include information about this lineage in their childrens' bios, as this helps spread the project! However, it is still perfectly fine to adopt or purchase a Flower if you do not wish to breed them at any point. Encouraged, even! Every Flower taken in, whether they breed or not, is an addition to the project's lore and that is just as important as the bloodline spreading. But one need not fret. When a Mourning Flower arrives, rest easy- your dead will be cared for now. It is their unspoken duty to see to the dead wherever they may be. The forgotten and lost call to them, and the Flowers answer their call with soothing song, and it is they that urge the harrowed souls though the Veil and into their final resting place in the Beyond. When they leave the dead behind, there is truly nothing but bones left. Walking without sound, Flowers are uncannily stealthy. They can prowl through the battlefields of war unnoticed or a quiet graveyard, gently ushering the dead away in the briefest stillness, and those they do not wish to be seen by will almost certainly not see them. Flowers do not speak- no matter how much a dragon may try to wrench a word from them, they remain silent, and most believe they cannot speak at all. Deep in the night, haunting melodies may echo through the lands as the Flowers sing their ancient songs. One may not understand what their songs mean, but the intensity of their song is no less felt, and those that are lucky enough to hear their song will rarely forget. Though they seem to favour the Icefields, the very place the Founders first stepped forth, Flowers are bound by no element. They can be found all over Sornieth, silently doing their duties. Should a Flower take a mate, it is for life, and their bonds will go beyond death itself. And their offspring are not born, not truly, but are souls brought forth into the Waking Plane from where they've been resting in the Graveyard for eons. Their flesh and bones may be mortal, but their souls will never die, and every Flower is destined to one day return to the Graveyard once more. They will plant their flowers, allowing the Beyond to call for its wayward soul, and the Flower ensured the soul touch the flowers freshly planted. And when they do, the Veil will part for them, and yet another soul returns to the Beyond. With a parting prayer to seal the Veil once more, the Flower will move on, content to have done its duty. There are dozens of local, personal, and regional differences and additions to every ritual they have, of course, but the basic steps tend to remain the same. No two Flowers have identical ones, and they come in all colours and shapes, and these flowers are a large part of their identity. And these flowers are also what tethers them to the Beyond, their link with the Graveyard they came from, and gifting one of their flowers to a living dragon is the ultimate show of love a Flower can possibly show. It is, very literally, the act of giving away a part of their soul. A flower plucked from a Mourning Flower willingly will contain considerable power, some not yet even known, and flowers taken unwillingly are as powerful despite being far more volatile and dangerous. Stealing a flower, be it from the Mourning Flower directly or from the ground, is considered a grave offence and bears consequences that'll stain the soul. Due to its powers, however, there is quite the market for it, and many Flowers have found themselves hunted for their flowers over the years. Those that get a hold of flowers without being gifted them whisper softly of curses and misfortune- alongside incredible [i]power[/i]. And in the same manner, those that were gifted them whisper of unbelievable luck and energy, their sleep restful and calm, as if the very universe itself is smiling down upon them. Where a mortal dragon would go serve their chosen god, the Flowers can only return back to the Graveyard, their souls solely under the jurisdiction of the Beyond. Upon the death of their mortal bodies, their souls will return back to the Graveyard, where they will, among other things, continue their living kin's work by helping the lost souls find their way through the Beyond. A Flower that has been returned to the Graveyard can later be reborn again into a new, different mortal form. The Rooted are, quite simply, Flowers born without the correct colours. Whilst this restrains them quite a lot in terms of skill and abilities, they are still able to continue on the lineage, and serve their own purpose. And then there are the Hybrids-- the modern variants of the Flowers. Though they share some abilities with the Flowers, they are restricted by the same colour requirements as the regular Flowers, and have their own set of gene restrictions. Hybrids' purpose are mainly to maintain and aid their Flower kin. To some extent, they also serve as an important link between the mortal dragons of Sornieth and the Flowers, which is a purpose they share with the Rooted. These dragons are able to continue on the lineages of Gladioli and Carnations. Alongside these other two types are the Achlorophyllosic, which means any dragon related to either Gladioli or Carnations but falling outside all other gene, colour, and breed requirements. Known to stalk the shadows and remain hidden from all until the Beyond tasks them with overseeing a specific good or bad situation. Omens tend to either be drawn to good or bad- rarely both. Blood Locked ones are most often drawn to a specific kind of dragon- be it a particular breed, elemental alignment, or some other trait. Those with the Runic trait tend to be deeply connected to the Fates themselves and the old gods. They seek out knowledge on the regular and have deep connections to the ways of the old. Often found stalking the outskirts of attention, Watcher ones are sneaky and prefer to keep their distance. Their loyalties may be questionable, but they are wildly efficient. Battle Born are the muscle of the Flowers and are not to be messed with; their teeth and claws are not for show.
