DAY 2 Slalom Skiing/ Alpine Zodonyarith wondered if he should just have skipped the Games this year. He’d been stunned to learn that Yaeilith, with all her youthful vitality and irrepressible energy, had fallen victim to the Covert Sickness at all, let alone succumbed to it. He’d had very little time to work with Bysadenith who had tentatively come to him once the quarantine had fallen and they could once again travel without risking health and safety. He had been reluctant to take her on at first, due to her artificial limb, but he’d reviewed the rules, and determined it was acceptable; it would not give her any unfair advantage. She had trained very hard, but he didn’t think she was ready for a competition of this caliber. However, no other had come forth, and Windrith was not one to let pass an opportunity to promote WindSky Weyr. So here they were. “I’m ready!” piped up a determined voice, and he turned to see his latest protege smoothing down her sweater. Dony felt a pang at the flash of her earrings, remembering Yaeilith’s unorthodox attire just one short year ago. Bysadenith, in spite of the ….antlers... was dressed more appropriately, in his opinion, yet she would still certainly be standing out among the contestants, with her dark colors against the snow. He tucked his own scarf tighter around his neck - it was unusually cold! - and quashing his misgivings, he turned to escort her to the starting gate, with one last pep talk, as much to convince himself as her! Day 2 - Alpine Skiing - Slalom

The weather was cold, and Clarity insisted on wrapping a warm scarf around Fireclaw's neck before they left.

Glacynea had, by virtue of being a Diplomat, been gifted beautifully crafted scarves for herself and her committee. While Fireclaw almost never attended the many events Glacynea and Clarity were sent to, as it wasn't his job, he, and even Unknown and sometimes Gloomwillow, were gifted things by virtue of their relationship to them.

He arrived at the Winter Games' grounds alone today as well, but knowing that his thoughtful friends, while busy, think about him, made him as happy as he could be.

He took his skiis, climbed up the skii tower, and watched the grand icy landscape from above before attempting to improve his previous year's Slalom time.

Day 2: Skiing (Part 2) As the day wound to a close, a lone Mirror could be seen hurrying to the area set aside for Skiing, already wearing a set of borrowed skis. Bundled up as she was, with a warm coat, tail cover, boots, and scarf, it was hard to tell what she looked like—and the snow that was now swirling everywhere did not help matters, either. Even so, those scrambling out of her way could see her determination in the way she drove the skis forward, hardly paying attention to anything except the path ahead. Wherever she was going, she definitely knew what she wanted to do once she got there… Ski Jump Esoterica (“Rica”) Arcane-Born Rica blew out her breath in agitation, driving the poles into the ground as she increased her pace yet again. The threatened Blizzard had appeared earlier, ruining her plans for an early day competing at the Ski Jump when the Event had to be postponed for several hours due to low visibility endangering the jumpers. In the reshuffling of the lists, her name had ended up at the bottom, as one of the last to compete. Now she faced the prospect of jumping in near darkness, with the bitter cold increasing by the second… Shivering at a stray gust of wind, Esoterica drew her scarf closer around her neck as she finally reached her starting spot. She stared down--a long way down--the jump before her and swallowed. It looked a lot higher than it had sounded like earlier, and the snow was now making things slippery to boot. This…was not going to be easy. The female Mirror gritted her teeth and gripped the poles hard. She had wanted this, Esoterica reminded herself. She had wanted a chance to compete in a contest--any contest--and bring home something for her Trophy Shelf at last. Both her parents were Hockey Players, and Puzzle, her brother, had been to several Festivals across Sornieth. This year, it was her turn. True, this was not the way she had hoped to debut in her first Winter Games, with snow swirling around her, cold biting at her hide, and the night closing in fast, but beggars can’t be choosers. Rica nodded, feeling more confident by the second. No hunt ever took place in absolutely perfect conditions, after all, and no true game of skill, either. A true Hunter was one who could handle the changes, and adjust. And she WAS a true Hunter. She could do this. She would do this. Flexing her muscles proudly, Rica settled into her favorite battle crouch. She imagined a Greatshell, hiding in the darkness, waiting for her to pounce. She could see it, moving slowly along, completely oblivious to its danger. It was large enough to feed all the young ones in the Clan and would taste absolutely delicious. She just had to wait for the signal from the Hunting Leader… …Later, the watching dragons from the Clan commented that it was the fastest and smoothest take-off anyone had seen all day, with Esoterica launching herself outward the instant the horn sounded. It was just a bit unfortunate that it was also the most unorthodox jump anyone had seen, in any Winter Games ever. Well, perhaps she could get points for originality? After all, it wasn’t every day you saw a skier shriek a battle cry and slash the air as she jumped…

You wouldn't expect it based on how she looked, but the pearlcatcher wasn't used to the cold temperatures at all. She had bundled up in multiples layers of coats and was still slightly shivering as she sipped her hot cocoa. Amethyst, however, wore only a thin blanket over his shoulders, since he originated from the Southern Icefields. It was mostly for show anyway, and he gave it to his companion halfway through the game after noticing her trembles. After their team was done, the four imperials, with Amethyst and Flurry in tow, left the ice with a very positive mood. They had won their first match, but would just have to see how the rest of their games went to see if they won. They weren't expecting a win, and none of them really cared about what place they got in as long as they had fun, so it was going to be a successful evening no matter what happened.
