Oh dear. Kind of worried about what Jett has planned. Also 50 dragons? Dang, that's a lot of characters to keep track of.

Oh my goodness, I totally thought I got back to you all, but I guess I didn't! It's been a wild week!!!

@Dakala

Aaaaa thank you! I'm super excited about NOTN, I'm writing my next update as we speak!!!

@Disillusionist

Happy Holidays!!! I wanted something bright and cheery and festive amidst the darkness of lore that's coming...

I am so so so excited about her! Once I get this lore rolling again, I can bring her in properly and expand her lore! I also have a great gene plan for her!

Ah yes, for someone with so many eyes, she sure is blind to how Jett really feels about her.

@Sabariel

Oof, it sure is! I've given up keeping up on everyone, and am just focusing on whatever dragons feel natural to bring into what I'm writing. There's a lot of stuff going on in the background in my head though, so I'm keeping tabs on everyone that way, you just might not see everything that's going on.

@Tiffkaboo

Hehehehe I am writing the next chapter as we speak and it truly is a whopper....

She had bigger concerns. Someone had just killed her brother, and they were going to pay. Her leathery wings clung close to her body, trying to make her large form as small as possible. Jett had called her in. He said that the first move had been taken in the war against Age and her bloodline, and now the time had come for her to be put to use in his grand plan. Yellan had no idea what he planned to use her for, but she wasn’t very keen on finding out. She wanted nothing more than to run away and hide, to leave the Black Market behind and live her own life, like she and Kael had been dreaming of. The wildclaw was already waiting for her when he arrived. By his side was Kobe, Kael’s brother. The serious skydancer had always terrified her. She dreaded to think what Jett and his son had in store for her. “Yellan, you have been growing stronger, and now your time has come,” Jett smirked. “You are truly precious, as you and you alone have been chosen for a very special task. You are, in fact, the only dragon I have chosen to carry the same power I do.” Yellan didn’t know what to say. She was confused as to what the wildclaw meant. What power was he talking about? “You will carry a piece of the Shade within you,” Jett explained. “Your imperial body will help you carry the strength of it, even if it pushes you past your mortal limits. Then, I will train you personally to wield the dark magic. If all goes well, we can move onto the next phase of my plan. But we can get to that later. Kobe, tell Frederick that we are ready for him.” With a nod, the skydancer disappeared deeper into the tent, only to return moments later with a lumbering bogsneak. Frederick licked his lips with interest as he eyed Yellan. His devouring look sent shivers down her spine. The bogsneak stopped behind Jett and produced a jar filled with an impossibly black substance. “Thank you Frederick,” Jett nodded, dismissing the bogsneak from his presence. Yellan was left alone with the wildclaw and his son, both staring up at her with hunger in their eyes. “Now, we begin.” Yellan turned to run, but she found herself unable to. Kobe’s gaze was focussed on her, and she realized that he was holding her still with some sort of magic. That was when Jett approached, unscrewing the lid of the jar and pouring the black substance into her mouth. It had no taste. In fact, it didn’t feel like anything at all. No, it was worse than nothing. It was the complete absence of anything at all. There was no taste, no feeling, and no weight. It slid down her throat, causing her to shake with fear as she felt the nothingness fill her body. Kobe released his hold on her and she began to writhe as the presence within her began to consume her. She fought it, trying to keep it within her, trying to gain control of it, but it was so hungry, and she could not satisfy it. Eventually, she was consumed with the feeling of nothingness, and she could feel her consciousness slipping away until there was nothing left. Jett and Kobe stared at the dark stain in the dirt where the imperial once stood. “She was too weak,” Jett sneered. “What a waste of Shade. We’ll have to find a better candidate sometime.” The wildclaw left, leaving his son staring at the impossibly black mark on the ground. The skydancer’s expression was unreadable. Then he too turned and left, leaving the failed experiment behind. “I wondered when I’d be seeing you,” Jett barely turned to look at Bridget as she entered. “How long did it take you to realize the word that you have in your head is our password?” “You killed my brother,” Bridget growled. Annoyed at his lack of response, she huffed and dumped the weight she had been carrying onto his scattered desk. Jett looked up to see the body of Katie lying there, glassy eyed. “This is payback.” “Oh my,” Jett seemed surprised, but not overly upset. Bridget watched as he examined the dark shade marks staining her scales. “You did well. I admire your handiwork.” “You’re not even upset?” Bridget was taken aback. “How heatless are you? I just killed your heir! Your favourite daughter!” “Katie was talented, but she didn’t have what we have,” Jett shrugged. “Besides, I have plenty more children, and I plan on making more, the same way your family has begun breeding like rabbits to keep me from seizing the throne. Besides, crafting the perfect warrior is more important than creating a dragon that is my own flesh and blood. And your actions today prove that you are capable of so much more than your soft-hearted kin. You have the strong blood in your veins, even though you descend from that coward, Banella.” “What do you mean?” Bridget was beginning to grow worried. Why was he speaking as if he knew her so well? They had never met before! “I’ve been watching you, Bridget. You’ve been exploring your Shade magic. It’s allowed you to see more than any dragon, but in doing so, you’ve allowed me a look through your eyes. I can see everything you see, if you wish. The Shade is not separate entities, as you and I. It is a collective whole, split up into different parts. I am one with the Shade, as you are growing to be. That gives us a connection, and I have been using it to my advantage.” Suddenly, in that moment, all of Ragna’s warnings about messing with Shade magic came back to her. She had been right: messing with such dark magic came with terrible consequences, and now she would pay the price. “Join me, Bridget. We can use talents like yours. And I promise, in return, you will have a special place in my new kingdom. After all, you have the benefit of having both the same magic and the same blood as I do. Who knows, I might even be inclined to make you my heir, if you can beat my children in power and loyalty.” Jett purred, holding out a hand. Bridget stared at it, a billion emotions churning within her, feeding into her shade magic, magic she wanted to cut off and destroy forever. It made her feel sick. She had just been curious, she never wanted this. “You killed my brother in cold blood, and for that I can never forgive you,” Bridget huffed. And with that, she turned and left. “You may walk away now, but you will never be rid of me,” Jett warned. “After all, your eyes are my eyes. Do you really think you can return to your family knowing that you are being used to spy on their every move?” Bridget didn’t look back, and tried to ignore the way her heart pounded in her chest. She had made a terrible mistake. ----- Next ----- @CleverDual @HauntedWhale @Disillusionist @AlchemyFox @Tirtouga678 @catmeow1 @Leopardmask @Midwinter @chantric @Dynami @ShinyDecidueye @tigressRising @FallenEclipse @Stitched @Willnotgogently @Sabariel @MisterMylez @Skystrider @Starongie @icetail0912 @myriadofstars @Aetherstorm @Weredogalism @Nargeorgicorn @WeaverofLies @herobrinna @secretlylying @Azurepocalypse @GoldictheHedgefx @CobaltMoon @Tiffkaboo @Orodruin @SkullGeist @Violeteevee @Amaluna @DragonPrincess27 @Dakala ----- Oof! What a way to enter a new decade! I actually had planned on writing this a lot sooner, but I've had friends over all week and have been spending time with them, so I don't regret the delay. It's been quite the day for deaths... Boo and Yellan both fell in the death streak before I had a chance to run, and then Katie died in the Coli as well, and failed her death save. All in all I'm not too upset, even though I am really sad to see these characters go, because I was hoping for some bloodshed to up the stakes for this conflict between Jett and Age. Special thanks to @Tirtouga678 and @Dynami for Ulf's genes! You had the perfect timing coming along, and now I have him all gened up! (He better not die after all this...) If anyone wants to claim Boo, Yellan or Katie, you have until 23:59 FR Time tomorrow (Sunday) to do so before they are exalted.

We’ll have to find a better candidate sometime.”

The wildclaw left, leaving his son staring at the impossibly black mark on the ground. The skydancer’s expression was unreadable. Then he too turned and left, leaving the failed experiment behind.

“I wondered when I’d be seeing you,” Jett barely turned to look at Bridget as she entered. “How long did it take you to realize the word that you have in your head is our password?”

“You killed my brother,” Bridget growled. Annoyed at his lack of response, she huffed and dumped the weight she had been carrying onto his scattered desk. Jett looked up to see the body of Katie lying there, glassy eyed. “This is payback.”

“Oh my,” Jett seemed surprised, but not overly upset. Bridget watched as he examined the dark shade marks staining her scales. “You did well. I admire your handiwork.”

“You’re not even upset?” Bridget was taken aback. “How heatless are you? I just killed your heir! Your favourite daughter!”

“Katie was talented, but she didn’t have what we have,” Jett shrugged. You have the strong blood in your veins, even though you descend from that coward, Banella.”

“What do you mean?” Bridget was beginning to grow worried.

That gives us a connection, and I have been using it to my advantage.”

Suddenly, in that moment, all of Ragna’s warnings about messing with Shade magic came back to her.

Do you really think you can return to your family knowing that you are being used to spy on their every move?”

Bridget didn’t look back, and tried to ignore the way her heart pounded in her chest. She had made a terrible mistake.

Oof!

(He better not die after all this...)

If anyone wants to claim Boo, Yellan or Katie, you have until 23:59 FR Time tomorrow (Sunday) to do so before they are exalted.

Oh, wow! Well, assassination is a perfect way to kick over the hornets' nest and tip over a boiling cauldron of war fumes.

And I was right, I smelled trouble. Three deaths in one episode, ouch. Any of them death-by-mimic, if you don't mind my asking?

@Dakala

Heck yeah! I don't think peace is an option anymore...

I did the battles a week ago. I can't remember about Boo and Yellan's (they were in the same battle), but Katie was death by mimic and it was really frustrating because I wanted a chance at a chest for the locke...

@Tiffkaboo

Yup! I was in shock myself, honestly. I expected to get one from the death streak to raise the stakes, and then I got two in one, and then the next day I got a meat pull and lost Katie... And after a solid month of no deaths. The timing couldn't be more perfect though!

Hehehehehehehe

Thank you! It's taken me long enough to get him all fancy!

@Petall

Happy new year!!

Yikes... when I saw the death streak I got nervous, but I never expected this much death. It definately raises the stakes a whole lot though.

Ulf looks so cool with his new genes!! He's so matchy!!
