After a night of sleep broken by the creature's chilling cries (more numerous and closer than ever before), the Biologists of the Obscure and the Spectral Zoologists rise with renewed vigor, even if they are still rubbing the sleep from their eyes. After a quick breakfast, they fan out to continue their search of the area.
The meadow has begun to cede to a few patches of land to heavier bush and tree cover, and the river runs a faster through narrow banks. Perhaps it is just the isolation in this beautiful wilderness, but everyone onsite agrees that they sense something supernatural in the area. These suspicions are confirmed by the fact that the fish are still making blind circles in the water, and by the bones of two rabbits that appeared overnight, freshly picked clean and left in a neat pile by the edge of the river. All evidence seems to point to the creature being underwater, so preparations are made to continue the search there, and precautions are put into place to account for whatever might happen.
The searchers lower themselves slowly into the river, some examining the pool, others swimming toward the island, and still others looking along the river bank. The latter groups find an underwater cave, cut under the river bank, that leads to a small cavern with a rocky shore. No strange creatures are inside, but from the stash of leftover bones to the shed scales to the branches that must have been painstakingly dragged through the water to form a bed, it's obvious that this place is home to something.
Not wanting the beast to catch them unawares, the adventurers leave as soon as they have documented the space. Now, all that's left to do is wait.
With the news of their discovery, the other searches stop and the adventurers instead gather near the river—the Biologists of the Obscure spreading out along the shores of the island, and the Spectral Zoologists taking the other bank of the river. There's a muted excitement as everyone tries to stay professional so they can approach this discovery with dignity… but not a dragon there would claim they weren't thrilled by the opportunity to discover a new creature.
After a long wait of no activity all day which wears on everyone’s nerves, there is near dusk at least a rippling in the water, much like the current caused by a toridae. Necks crane to see the source, some dragons looking through their hands, and others trying to use reflective surfaces to avoid the temporary blindness. As if it senses its audience, the creature stops, causing the water to still. Then, it surges to the surface long enough for all to see its body: a snout similar to a toridae; a pair of distinctive fins that run from the crown if its head down its back; two short arms ending in webbed hands; and a tail that ends in another set of spiny appendages. Seconds after it emerges, the scientists begin to feel their vision go dull, and then dark. By the time they can see again, the creature is long gone.

Everyone sets themselves to transcribing what they saw; working in pairs or small groups to get all the details down. After comparing notes and rumors, Griffin and Odessa both agree that the creature was an Ahizotoul, a being that existed only in legends dating back to a distant era. Hoping for more data, another adventuring party swims down to the underwater cavern, but they find it empty, devoid of even the branches and bones that were there before. It seems the Ahizotoul has moved on.
With nothing left to study, the dragons pack up their gear and make their way back to camp. But when they arrive, they are greeted with a disaster. Tents have been knocked over and supplies strewn about. Cries of anger and confusion fill the air. What could have done this?

Deepsea Yawner
Seafood
When dried or smoked, the Deepsea Yawner provides an excellent and sustaining jerky for the long haul traveler. Looks wicked gross, though.

Seafood
Nature, really? This is what you went with?
41
4
Sicklemaw Gar
Seafood
A marsh rich in gar is likely to be poor in other species of fish.
42
4
Marsh Stalker
Seafood
The snack that scowls back -until you bite their heads off.
42
4
Butterflyfish
Seafood
These fish begin life as a rather dull fry; as they approach maturity they develop a thick membrane and go dormant. Weeks later they emerge with vibrant coloration.

Sentinel Fish
Seafood
Now that you've taken out the guards, the remaining fish will be helpless.

15
2
Sardines
Seafood
They're an acquired taste, provided you can acquire them.
15

A tasty and addictive snack when roasted and salted.
