Last night, after making camp near the river, we discussed all we had found so far. The fish seemed an amazing discovery, and we could hardly wait to begin investigating the next morning. Then, the lair of the creature was discovered and then, after a long wait, the creature itself! Words can hardly describe what we saw, or the elation we felt. Compared to this, the fish were nothing, less than inconsequential! At last, the Spectral Zoologists have a discovery to our name. The creature, we believe, is an Ahizotoul. It seems a mutated Toridae, from what we have discovered. The snout and protruding teeth, and webbed feet, the spiked tail...all traits it shares with the crocodile family. We will, of course, have to do advanced testing on the scales our scouts recovered, but that is a thing for the lab and not the field. I admit, I wish I had been able to see it longer. We were prepared for the vision fade, but that did not make it any easier to only catch a moment's glance. And, with the creature gone, who knows when we shall see one again—if ever? We worked together to take notes and sketch as much of the creature as we could from our memories, and returned to camp triumphant, only to find that it had been turned upside-down while we were away. I cannot imagine would have done such a thing… we are at the moment far from any clans, and it's not as if anything was taken. Just heavily disturbed. It almost makes me wonder if whatever did this was in a league with the Ahizotoul, aiming only to distract us for long enough that it could get well and truly away from our party? We are all too tired to do much more tonight, but tomorrow, I believe we will have another investigation on our hands. After we woke up for the day, I set out with the rest of the Zoologists to explore the river bank. After a few minutes of searching (Maybe an hour? Time is irrelevant,) reports came in of an underwater cavern! I wish I'd seen it myself, but I'm not the best swimmer. I did, however, listen intently to every account of the experience. A bed of sticks and roots? Bones and scales everywhere? Sounded like a fun creature! After what felt like an eternity, the water started to ripple and everyone fell silent. As I watched the other dragons close their eyes, I remembered the tales of temporary blindness and attempted to do the same- pulling my wolf cape over my face. However, as soon as I heard the rush of water, I couldn't help but open all four! It was only in color for a moment- but it was beautiful, a spine-covered toridae with claws on its tail. Interestingly, as the blindness set in, my heat sensing set of eyes remained problem-free, so even though I could no longer see the wonderful patterns and piercing eyes of the creature, I WAS able to follow it's glowing silhouette down the river until it disappeared. What an experience! I won't forget seeing this beast any time soon, that's for sure. When we returned to camp, unfortunately, we were in for a bad time. It seemed something had wrecked the place while we were out, destroying supplies and trampling tents. Nothing we can't rebuild, though, and with a day like this has been, I couldn't care less. Dividers by Osiem, Avatar Border from poisonedpaper's resources

Pluto's Notes: Day 7 So you know how I joked at the idea that it was a sewer gator earlier? Well, we have found that the creature is actually known as an Ahizotoul, and is believed to be a type of mutated toridae. Guess what kind of creature my sister put in a submission hold the other day: A toridae. I had read in old texts that they were lizard like creatures that stole the eyes of anyone who came across their wailing, but I mistakenly believed the texts were being literal. Thankfully, they only meant temporary blindness. After confirming this with the other scientists, we went back to the bayou where the first 'sewergator' sightings were found. Apparently the nature clan that has lived on that land for years has lived in harmony with their natural surroundings. Recently however, something has riled the toridae up, along with other species in the area. And even then, there are many mysteries left undiscovered: What caused the Ahizotoul to mutate in the first place? Was it nature, magic, or something else? What caused it to go downstream as well? How long had the Ahizotoul been living here? The fish having more permanant blindness would indicate that it had been living there for a long time, but the ease of which the movement out of the cave occurred would imply that it was used to moving... or had help. There have been strange tidbits all around: some small unknown feather clumps at the edge of the riverbank, the destroyed campsite which nobody seemed to hear, and the sudden disappearance of its lair. None of this makes sense if it were only a single entity. I've asked for an analysis to be done of some of the unknown feather clumps found near the site of the hatchling incident, and will have them cross compared with known harpie analysi. I am also collecting soil samples from within the cave and asking for them to be compared to more regional ones. I have a hypothesis that a earth burrowing creature might be involved since moving the lair would leave clear water trails, both entering the lair and exiting it. Since it isn't open to the sky, that would only leave a ground entrance into the lair. I'm going to be personally investigating the lair for any signs of covered passages... once I'm able to get past the fact that I don't know how to swim well. When I returned home, I was met with quite an astounding sight! Apparently Ray, a coatl who's almost like a younger cousin to me, has become interested in the cryptids as well, if albeit for much different reasons than Artemis and I. She had set up a dress up booth for the toridae my sister ended up wrestling the other day, who she named Prince Humperdink. It was obvious that the creature had been dressed up to resemble the Ahizotoul, with paint and costume jewelry changing it from a normal 'sewergator' to something that resembled the creature. It was a good approximation, but Ray had also put together a station where scientists could make their own slight variations on a basic plush doll to accentuate something they saw in the toridae that they want others to see. This is likely a scheme for Ray to add more plush toys to her hoard. She loves them too much. I should go now. I can overhear a few of the scientists wondering if they can lure the Ahizotoul out using a 'false mate'. I don't think Humperdink would like to be the guinea pig for this experiment ---------------------------------------------------------- Honestly, the fact that I joked about sewer gators and it turned out to be a toridae is honestly hilarious to me and I didn't expect it. Ray has joined the cryptid hunt! As a sin coatl, she's frequently looked upon with skepticism, though is a valuable member. She serves as the Magical Menagerie's head accountant, and makes sure all the finances are managed. However, she does have the sin of greed... which manifests in her hoarding of plush toys. She admittedly just deals with the money because she's good with math.

Leif Log ( Rahmat of Azamat )

It has been hard tracking looking for signs of the creature that caused the rash of temporary blindness among the hatchlings, but it seems like we are getting closer, the cries sound close tonight.

Some of the older dragons don't seem to take me seriously as I have barely a clawfull of breeding seasons behind me, not that I have bred anyway. But I'll show them, I'm as good at exploring as any of them. I'm not the strongest swimmer, so I'll keep to running along the bank.

Leif Log ( Kalimat of Azamat )

Our hard work has paid off, and specifically my hard work paid off.

I spotted it. Maybe some of the others on the shore say they saw I first but I know I was the one who called it out first. I spotted the underwater entrance to the cryptid's underwater lair.

Odessa appointed some of the others to go explore the passage, stronger swimmers than me, but that seems fair. They came out with scales, possibly from the creature itself, and bones from its prey.

Then we waited, and after much patience we caught a glimpse of the creature itself. It looked kind of like a Toridae but not any Toridae I'e ever seen before. Some of the Observes said it was called an Ahizotoul and that they were creatures of myth. I just think it so amazing that I was one of the first to see it, well see it and document it, because science that you don't document is just goofing around.

As a side note, since the new things are unlocked by reaching a certain number of votes and the new post came right after my 900 point post I thought it fair to guess maybe I was the one who put us over. If this is too much I can edit this post, having lots of fun and don't want to offend anyone.
