The underwater cabin we found was untouched and uncontaminated. Our scientists recorded the habitat and took a few scale samples to be tested later. But no answers as to what lived there. That came later. We set up to wait; no point in doing anything else after we'd found the creature's lair. We knew it would come by water. Aside from the fish, the habitat seemed largely untouched by this creature. The rabbit bones, a sign of its dinner, were the only other clue we found aboveground. But we stayed there, hoping it would approach. The creature came by river, at first appearing to be a Toridae of some sort - but on closer look, no Toridae that we knew. An elongated snout, with fangs poking out. Fins cresting the top of its head. Clawed, webbed feet that could be dangerous. And a long tail with spikes on the end. That is most of what we saw before our vision went - notes and sketches later confirmed that we had all seen the same thing. By the time our eyesight returned, it had gone. Stranger still, its lair had been cleaned out. Still, a discovery to put the Biologists of the Obscure on the map. At camp, we had plans to create a theory of where this Ahizotoul came from and what its powers were, but we returned to a place that had been thoroughly tossed. Based on this lore post.

At last - after days of finding no clues other than the creature's shrieks at night - we have made a breakthrough! Yesterday, it was the blind fish making endless circles in the pool. It was enough to make us take notice, and for us to set up camp nearby. Then, today, our searching began to pay off.

It was a frustration, and a mystery - no one lives near. And by the time we had finished, it was too late to do more work. Ah well, there is always tomorrow, both to think more about what we saw, and to find out what caused this.

Sylvia's Report:

I had never heard of the Ahizotoul before today, but I definitely believe in it now! Yesterday we found some fish with a weird film over their eyes. At first I didn't understand what was important about that. I've seen cave fish that didn't have eyes at all, and I've seen fish with weird eyes before. The film didn't appear like it could be enough to affect their eyesight, but they kept crashing into rocks and plants and each other. It was funny to watch. We waited for a while to see if the film would go away from their eyes, but it didn't. I suspect either (1) the creature affects fish eyes more than our eyes or (2) the creature's blinding effect, whatever it is, has a cumulative effect too, so that if you're exposed to it too much you can lose your vision.

Honestly, I thought that would be the most we'd find, and I thought we'd find out it was algae or something like that. Usually my cryptid hunts end with something that looks suspiciously like my clanmate's fangar's pawprints.

Today, I searched the pool with another group, but we didn't find anything of note. We found some crab remains, but they could easily have been a river flight's prey. Still, I noted it in case the creature eats shellfish. But then why would it blind its prey? Still, the entire time I had the feeling that something was watching us, and I could swear that something smelled like an enemy.

Another group found the creature's lair, though, so we stationed ourselves near it. I was on the island nearest it with the rest of the BoO (I like the acronym, but no one else finds it as funny as I do. Maybe someone will read this later and laugh.).

At the end of the day, though, the creature appeared. I heard it - or rather didn't hear it - before I saw it. I heard everything go quiet suddenly. Even the bugs disappeared, and while I was glad to not be swatting away mosquitoes, it was weird how quickly they disappeared. Moments later, the creature surfaced.

I put on my sunglasses, but they didn't spare my vision. Maybe I was too slow, or maybe the vision problem had nothing to do with light, like I expected. I expected an intense flash of light, but there was no light, only darkness. Unfortunately, I got only the barest glimpse of the creature before it was too dark to see anything through my sunglasses, and although I took off my sunglasses I couldn't see anything with them. I saw enough to see what looked like a weird toridae with weird fins on its head. I didn't see if it had back legs, but it definitely had front legs like a toridae. Its fins made me think of the legendary stegosaurus, but instead of individual spines, the spines were connected and webbed and extended over its head. It even had weird spines on its tail. I thought it might be another foot, but I almost couldn't see by then, so I was probably imagining it. A creature wouldn't have a foot on the end of its tail, would it? Maybe I'm remembering wrong. Even with my vision gone, though, I could still smell it. It smelled like a toridae but really weird. It almost smelled like the water was more brackish than it really was.

I didn't hear anything. I didn't even hear it splash as it left. That was weirder than anything else. All I heard was the bugs and creatures returning.

By the time we could see again, the creature was gone, and our camp was destroyed. Some people think the creature purposefully destroyed our camp, but I think someone kept food in one of the tents even though we were explicitly told not to do that. Mind you, that might be why it didn't eat us instead. That would have been a silly end to this trip!

Whoa didn't expect the ranges to change? Luckily I scored 10points so I'm still here but it'll be weird to change teams halfway through. And also what with the points sb has earned so far? Do they change sides as well?
