I will admit that I personally have extremely mixed feelings about this story; there's parts of it that I absolutely adore, and other sections that made me extremely upset. So, I essentially have a very strong ambivalence about it as a whole. As such, my fandragon is a bit of a remixed version of the source material (like many of my fandragons in general, actually), which is one of the reasons why I'm separating out my iteration with a different name to the canon one. This dragon is also based off of my Lorwolf version of the character, in which I completely disregarded the canon colors admittedly. (In canon, Li Yu starts out as a small black carp and eventually becomes a gold-and-white koi. I have to say that the Seven Seas cover for the story strikes me as strange because the illustration artist actually got Li Yu's colors wrong; he's not a white-and-red koi!) But my iteration I actually bought a [s]wolf[/s] fox (I headcanon all of my pets on that site as hulijing - fox spirits rather than wolves) to primarily match the Custom Apparel "Nereid's Fins" by [b][url=https://www.lorwolf.com/Play/ViewUser?id=889]NimStratus #889[/url][/b] (LW) / [b][url=https://www1.flightrising.com/clan-profile/589160]#589160[/url][/b] (FR). (More on that in the link provided.) This dragon is also [i]somewhat[/i] based off of my Lorwolf version of the character. Just like my fox / hulijing for Meirenyu, Haishui's colors don't match his canon colors admittedly, because he's primarily associated with black, but I thought it would be more fun to go with relatively oceanic-themed colors instead, and to make him a little more unique within my own lair, and therefore more fun to me. Also, his hatchday (February 29, Leap Year) matches his mate! Longnian means "Dragon Year," in Hanyu/Zhongwen/Chinese Mandarin. I was so hyped and excited for the holiday, so naturally I had to get myself a few dragons, and this is one of them! Fun facts: I bought the dragon for 8,888 treasure, which made me pretty happy because 8 is a lucky number in Zhongguo/Chinese culture. :3c And furthermore, red/gold are lucky colors as well, and the dragon is Crimson/Crimson/Gold with Light element! A perfect snag! I'm so happy with this fella! During the Lunar New Year, I was so excited about it that I genuinely wrote a small shortstory that was roughly around 3K+ words that day about it, too. I also have a number of other dragons I snagged for the event, but whether or not I'll be keeping [i]all[/i] of them is still up for debate since lairspace is limited. For now, the only one I'll be focusing on completing right now is this one because of that, who is for sure a permanent addition to my lair. Majora's Mask is my favorite of the TLOZ franchise (of which I'm a huge fan of, in general, as can be evidenced by my progenitor being named Vaati, which is also my username across a few other sites as well like Lorwolf). But these two witches have always been huge favorites of mine. I'm big into dichotomy themes (like Fire + Ice), and these two really hit the note for that. I love them so much! I love how they're just harmless witch nerds in Majora's Mask; it's delightful. It's also extremely fun how they're the boss of the Spirit Temple of Ocarina of Time as a combination of themselves— Twinrova. They're also featured as a boss in Cadence of Hyrule, as [i]Synthrova[/i], which super delighted me a lot. Fun facts: I also used to have two fish named Twi (silver) and Rova (orange), as well, named after them. I love these witchy gals so much! I know they're in a couple of other games, but these are my primary focus for my personal fandragons of them, are those areas. As such, Kotake is an XXY Ice/Fire with Fire element, and Koume is a XXY Fire/Ice with Ice element by contrast, both being breeding projects born on (western) New Years in 2022. I've had them for quite a while, and have had a hard time figuring out what genes I've wanted for them, and have been struggling with feeling unsatisfied over scries, since they need to perfectly match/parallel each other with the same genes. But the problem is a gene that looked good on one of them, wouldn't be quite what I was wanting on the other. Especially for Ice, many of the genes make it a more darker icy tone than what I was hoping for, vs. Fire kept continuously being too dark [i]or[/i] too bright, weirdly enough. I think that I've finally figured out what I want to do! They've at least always had ridgeback as their chosen breed— gotta have their iconically pointy noses, you know? :D Pharaoh is a great way to get them both more consistent (especially on Koume's horns not turning a strange color). Even though it's more expensive, it'll be worth it in the end. The black also denotes their outfit, which does have black (or a very dark green depending on shenanigans) on it, so I think that works well and also makes the design pop a little more. Additionally, I decided on Goat eyes for both (which is different from my previous scries with Primal) for consistency, and Firebreather, which matches the eyes for both nicely, being in the same head region. It's too bad I'll have to override my previously-spent gems on having obtained Opal for them both (rip), but I think it ultimately looks better. Plus, I'm making them into permababies so that I don't have to worry about getting matching skins + outfits that actually look good on them. There's a very high likelihood that down the road I will obtain a Twinrova and Synthrova as well, so I'll save outfits and skins/accents for those iterations instead.
