@Lixue Oh yeah, I'd say most people in that faction have no idea what they are getting into with Atlas... Octavia included. I don't even know if Atlas knows what they are getting into! @Phanerozoic Oh, you are so correct, Joshe does have two hands! (four actually if you count all the paws). I will have to take this into consideration... Also, the bloodline of Jett is indeed going strong! [emoji=wildclaw winking size=2] @Kayfox hehehehehe, it sure will be!

Oh yeah more characters. Ouro has a crush on Joshe, dragons are bonding with one another, and Atlas has that darkness flowing through them. Anyways, I ship Shinya and Lyrate now and I feel with both Ishtar and Atlas having more Disciples, Shui is going to have some competition.

Also, Scallop scares me.

they're here!!
they're here!!
@Aquasparky

Shui really does have competition indeed! I had no idea how the numbers would stack as I was sorting them, and this was not how I thought it would go, I can't wait to see the consequences of this!

Hehehe Scallop should scare you! (Though xi and Adriel would get along well, I think).

@RedSiren

Now, it was similar to their own, but with time Fang had assured them that it would gain thoughts and opinions of its own. Once Mato was sure they had a grasp on their body, they swam up towards the light of the sunlight above, and broke the surface of the viscous liquid. Of course, they would never oust Piano from the position, Ravage was just glad it wasn't being left to rot, like so many other things in the Scarred Wasteland, and he knew Quell felt the same. Piano was doing them a great service, and both banescales felt indebted to her for it. So, they would frequently stop by, not just to check in on the place, but also to remind Piano that they would do whatever she asked of them, should she have any requests. She never did, but Ravage and and Quell wanted to be sure she was aware they would always be ready and willing. So, they visited the tavern regularly - far more regularly than anyone else in the Disciples - though more and more frequently their clanmates were beginning to discover the place and stop by. It was on one of these visits that Ravage and Quell saw them - two wildclaws and an aberration - sitting at a table. Ravage had never seen them before, but knew from his years of training with the Bane Battalion the look of a mercenary. Feeling immediately protective, Ravage pointed them out to Quell, and the two made their way over. They had to make sure no harm would come to the lands and dragons they were protecting - least of all to The Proud Mary. Instead, her eyes darted around while her companion and the aberration spoke animatedly. She was the first to notice the two banescales. However, the other two weren’t far behind - the scuffling of claws caught their attention. The second wildclaw’s gaze felt intense, despite the rest of his face not matching that feeling. One of the aberration’s heads rolled their eyes before looking away from the wildclaw, while their other head leaned in toward the newcomers. It was the second wildclaw that spoke first. “Ah, fellow mercenaries. A pleasure to meet you.” He grinned at them. “But where are my manners? My name is Roume. The quiet one with me is Var, and my new acquaintance is Sagar.” The same head of Sagar’s that had rolled their eyes was watching Roume as he said this, but the head watching the two banescales didn’t seem to care. "My name is Ravage, and this is my sister, Quell," Ravage has said as the two banescales' pulled up chairs and sat down at the table, making themselves comfortable. At the counter, Ravage could see Piano making questioning eye contact, and Ravage gave a signal for the mirror to provide him and Quell with their usual orders. "It's a pleasure to meet you!" Quell beamed, using her usual 'kill them with kindness' approach to everything she did. It balanced out Ravage's intensity, he felt. "What brings you to these parts?" Ravage asked, doing his best to keep things casual. No reason to get hostile if these dragons came in peace. One of Sagar’s heads hummed. “I’ve been asked to scope out a “Disciples of Shui. Who names their clan their Disciples, anyways? You’re just waving your self-importance. I was told not to linger, though - these employers wanted their information faster.” They waved a claw, and silk ruffled. “At the very least they’ve got fine payment for sending me here, and there’s a fine tavern to rest in.” Roume’s smile didn’t waver. Even as he seemed to be sizing up Sagar. “What luck! No, my companion here and myself are simply out to track down a dragon. Told she might have run here, but doesn’t seem to be the case. Pity.” The smoke curling around Roume’s wings shimmered and shifted as he adjusted his wings. “I was just telling Sagar we had seen an encampment not far from here, but Var and I are moving on at first light tomorrow. Trouble lurking around here, you see.” "Well, we are more than happy to fill you in on what we know!" Quell piped up. "You see, we've been living with the disciples for some time now - that's our own mission we've been hired for. To live among them and get to the bottom of it." Together, Ravage and Quell began to share their observations from their time among The Disciples, talking about Shui and his arrogant mission, the emergence of other potential candidates for the divinity ritual. They shared about the dragons that had made their home here, highlighting the ones that could potentially be dangerous. They talked until their the tankards Piano had brought them grew empty and their food got cold, making sure these mercenaries were as well-informed as possible. Roume’s eyes narrowed. “This Shui and his rivals sound like something we could get tangled up in, hm?” He shook his head. “No matter. It wouldn’t be the first time Var and I had been involved in the matters of powerful dragons.” Var nodded. Her gaze bored into Quell and Ravage. Roume himself clicked his tongue. But Sagar jumped in. “Oh, that is good information!” The aberration raised their now-empty tankard, pushing aside an equally empty plate. “Hee.. Shui rings a bell. That’s one of the dragons I was asked to look out for, but we weren’t sure if it was the same Shui. No matter! Thank you both for this valuable information! Though, an ascension ritual? Isn’t that interesting…” Sagar’s other head finally spoke up. “We likely aren’t the last mercenaries that will get involved. Something like this is bound to draw… struggles.” They hissed low. Sagar’s other head sighed at their counterpart, before grinning toothily. “That’ll just mean more jobs for us, you know!” "If you don't want to be stuck here until the ritual is complete, I recommend staying away, before you get completely drawn in" Ravage said. "We were not aware of it when we were given our mission, nor was our boss, but once you join, you cannot leave. No amount of pay is worth the risk here, unless you are committed to the mission and have years of dedication in you." "Though, if you were to stay, we could easily form some sort of extended partnership," Quell offered. "You have been kind and good friends to us, and we would not leave you to fend for yourself." “Unfortunately we cannot stay too long,” Sagar’s quieter head said. “We were asked to return as soon as we had scoped out the place.” Roune, however, looked contemplative. “Mm… it would be a good fight…” he muttered just under his breath, before eyeing the banescales again. “That is only if one stays within the camp, yes? Perhaps an alliance would be of use.” The wildclaw’s grin widened, and gestured towards Var. “Mercenaries like us benefit from working together. Perhaps we could come by the area. Not actually entering these challenges, but rather working together. What say you?” "Sounds like a good deal," Quell said, holding out a hand to shake with the visiting mercenaries. Ravage did the same. "Just let us know if you are ever in the area!" Quell added. The mercenaries enjoyed the rest of their meal together, laughing and making plans and enjoying each other’s company. Eventually, the time came for Ravage and Quell to return to the disciples. They said goodbye to their friends, tipped Piano well, and set out, wondering what these new alliances would bring them. ----- Next ----- @pinglist-3016 ----- A fun chapter! I've turned Mato into an aberration so they can fully be part of the Plaguemother's Spurned, Bloodrush has been introduced, and I realized now was a good time to post the collaboration @Phanerozoic and I wrote together a little while ago. Enjoy!

Mato stood at the edge of the Wyrmwound, watching it bubble and bracing themself for what it was to come.

“I’m glad you’ve decided to join us fully as a member of the Spurned.” Fang grinned, looking Mato up and down with a look of pride. “Soon, you will shed that form for one far greater.”

“It seemed only natural, now that Ishtar has moved onto other things, there is nothing tying me to my old life. I have no family I wish to acknowledge, you have all become my family.” Mato admitted.

Around Mato, the rest of the Spurned gathered. They could sense the energy from them, the anticipation of witnessing a ritual. Fang silenced them with a signal from his scales.

“Today, our numbers grow. We have all been abandoned, by our god and by modern Sornieth, which is why it is so important we have each other. For centuries beyond counting, we have kept each other strong and been each other’s families when no one else would. It is with great pride that I invite Mato to join our ranks as a full member,” Fang announced, addressing the small crowd before turning to the wildclaw. “Mato, do you swear to embrace your new form, despite the rejection that accompanies it?”

“I do,” Mato said solemnly.

“And do you promise to look out for each member of the Spurned as if they were your flesh and blood, regardless what conflict may befall you?” Fang asked.

“I do,” Mato agreed.

“Then, it is with great honor that I invite you to step into the Wyrmwound and take on your new form,” Fang said, gesturing at the great bubbling expanse.

Mato took a deep breath, standing on the bony outcropping that stretched above the wound. They were not sure what awaited them in the goop, but they were ready. So, they dove in, not leaving any time for hesitation.

The liquid burned as it touched their scales. Mato gasped, and felt the liquid entering their lungs, all the disease accompanying it. They coughed, letting out the last of their air, wondering if they would survive, or if this ritual would be their downfall. They felt their clothes dissolve around them, leaving them naked.

And then they felt the changes. It felt like growths at first, like a boil or a pimple, but they quickly took shape, another head, another tail, shifting and changing the shape of their face and body, burning the entire time.

And then, it all stopped.

Mato began to move their body, getting a new feel for it. They could feel a second consciousness, as Fang had described, just beginning to take shape. Now, it was similar to their own, but with time Fang had assured them that it would gain thoughts and opinions of its own. Once Mato was sure they had a grasp on their body, they swam up towards the light of the sunlight above, and broke the surface of the viscous liquid.

Cheering erupted from their new clan as they emerged, slithering onto dry land once more. Mato held their heads high, feeling a greater sense of belonging and camaraderie than they had ever felt before.

They were transformed.

Trouble lurking around here, you see.”

"Well, we are more than happy to fill you in on what we know!" Quell piped up. "You see, we've been living with the disciples for some time now - that's our own mission we've been hired for. To live among them and get to the bottom of it."

Together, Ravage and Quell began to share their observations from their time among The Disciples, talking about Shui and his arrogant mission, the emergence of other potential candidates for the divinity ritual.

“That’ll just mean more jobs for us, you know!”

"If you don't want to be stuck here until the ritual is complete, I recommend staying away, before you get completely drawn in" Ravage said. "We were not aware of it when we were given our mission, nor was our boss, but once you join, you cannot leave. No amount of pay is worth the risk here, unless you are committed to the mission and have years of dedication in you."

"Though, if you were to stay, we could easily form some sort of extended partnership," Quell offered. "You have been kind and good friends to us, and we would not leave you to fend for yourself."

“Unfortunately we cannot stay too long,” Sagar’s quieter head said. “We were asked to return as soon as we had scoped out the place.”

Roune, however, looked contemplative. What say you?”

"Sounds like a good deal," Quell said, holding out a hand to shake with the visiting mercenaries.

A fun chapter! I've turned Mato into an aberration so they can fully be part of the Plaguemother's Spurned, Bloodrush has been introduced, and I realized now was a good time to post the collaboration @Phanerozoic and I wrote together a little while ago. Enjoy!

Congrats to Mato on the great makeover! The scene with the mercenaries was really interesting too. I'd always thought of Shui's territory as being secret, but given how many "Disciples" there now are, it does make sense that the challenges would start drawing more attention. :o

Matoooo!!! They look great as an abby! But-
... there is nothing tying me to my old life. I have no family I wish to acknowledge...
This hurt me. This hurt me deep. Gosh, I like Bloodrush already. She seems really cool! Hoping for the best for her~. And what a cast of fun characters! Excited to see where this alliance leads!

@Disillusionist

I've been waiting for so long for that makeover, until I felt I could spend the money on it!
Yeah, I figure if they are big enough to get the attention of dragons to join the challenges and have the gods and organizations like the Bane Battalion send people to join in and check it out, it's big enough to have dragons check it out and not stay.

Bloodrush is so fun oh my goodness.
