I don't think I really apply gender to my dragons. But maybe that because theyre banescales and they probably care about gender as much as an average cat or dog would.

Hybiisk is a lady and nobody can tell me otherwise, she's lovely and gentle and will fight you for stepping off the trail at the national park.
I tend to default to their site gender mostly because I've lately kinda given up on lore, but some of them have different vibes

I really don't apply gender to my dragons. The majority are old breeding pairs/traditional couples. I may be agender myself but I really don't enjoy diving down the LGBT+ rabbithole for most of my lair.

it doesn't happen a lot, but yes! beyond that, i've also just very deliberately made some of my dragons gender non-conforming or trans. :D
here's tal for example:

it's been 2 years so i'm probably just misremembering, but i could swear that the person i bought him from (when he was a hatchling) just defaulted to he/him pronouns when referring to dragons or something like that, which is why i do it too. i could be wrong, though, i have horrible memory :D

Yeah sometimes. Poses usually blur through my head and I refer to them one way until I actually check if they are male/femae
I do that for, like, half of my dragons. When I realized, I just decided they're all trans and rolled with it lol

Some of my fandragons are the opposite gender pose just because it gives the character's vibes better than the correct gender. Like Shizuha. The expression and extra fluff of a male Tundra suits her best to me, so that's what she is, but she's not a guy. But purely by accident, most of the characters I headcanon as trans are the pose of the gender they identify as.
Otherwise I tend to just lean towards whatever pose they are to begin with. There's no reason I do, and I actually often ignore the fact that my dragons were technically born as the gender they appear to be in order to make them trans or nonbinary, but usually, they identify as what they look like (even if in my stories, they weren't always that way).
