Amazonite inhaled the fresh forest air as Turquoise guided her along.
She'd miss the sunlight that beamed through the canopy and the animals that chittered subtly somewhere in the greenery.
If leaving this place meant moving on, she was willing to do it.

"So," Amazonite started, attempting to fill the silence, "what's the restaurant called?"

"So, what's the restaurant called?"

"Its called Roses, simple but chic isn't it? I'm pretty sure its more fancy the a normal lunch spot but its supposed to be good" she said looking back at Amazonite as she slowed down to match pace and fall beside her.

"Oh cool!" Amazonite said, scanning her memories to see if she recognized the name.

She didn't often go to restaurants. Only for special occasions like birthdays and what not. To say the least, she was excited. Going to a new restaurant would be nice, especially with Turquoise.

As the pair walked further along the winding path, the trees seemed to spread further apart, indicating the forest's edge. Amazonite's talon shifted involuntarily in Turquoise's. She didn't travel beyond the forest, the market, and the restaurant often. There didn't seem to be a need to. She didn't have relatives or friends on the outside, so it was pointless to venture out. The busier neighbourhoods were loud and crowded. It made her feel alone.
But Turquoise was beside her this time. Maybe it would be different.
They walked through the bustling paths, not wanting to fly where it would be even more hectic. Eventually, Turquoise slowed down at what seemed to be a small café. Amazonite squinted to read the cursive font written above the doorway. The restaurant, Rose, looked like an elaborate coffee shop, serving tea and pastries, but also dishes.
Upon approaching, Amazonite felt Turquoise's talon slip from her own. She glanced nervously at Turquoise, but her friend's attention was drawn elsewhere.

"It's... closed?" she muttered, "that's strange, wouldn't they be open for lunch hour? Considering they only really do lunch and breakfast..."

Amazonite focused her attention on the sign posted on the door, large red letters spelling out the word "CLOSED."
She made her way up to the door, where there was another sign that had their restaurant hours.

"Huh, that's odd," she murmured, her eyes carefully scanning the small words, "they should be open today."

She felt a cool talon rest on her shoulder as Turquoise leaned over to get a better look. Amazonite gulped. Turquoise's smooth snout and aqua eyes were all too close to her face and she resisted the urge to move closer.

"Yeah, the restaurant won't be opening today."

Amazonite and Turquoise whip around to identify the mysterious voice. A pearlcatcher they hadn't noticed standing nearby approach them.

"Most of the restaurants 'round here are closed," the pearlcatcher grunted, "there's some sort of protest going on at a restaurant over yonder."

Amazonite and Turquoise exchanged glances.

"What's it about?" Amazonite asked, perplexed. She didn't think one single restaurant could cause such a fuss... and she would've liked to have had lunch with Turquoise.

"Something about how a restaurant rigged the ratings in the newspaper report and how the judges were bribed," the pearlcatcher shrugged.

Amazonite watched Turquoise's face fade from confusion to concern.

"The restaurant... we work at?" Amazonite said, looking at Turquoise for confirmation.

"That is indeed the direction of our restaurant," Turquoise said, then her eyes lit up as she turned to look at Amazonite, "do you think that is who the coatl is?"

"I guess we better find out."
