TOPIC | A questionnaire about your lair + clans
1 2 3 4
- Does your lair have one clan or more than one clan?
It's got three other branches. The main one is the Legion, then there's the cursed court designed to aid shade-touched dragons with control, then there's the Circus Macabre which filters wannabe members, and finally the Emberglow Mercenaries who pretty much work as guards and raiding parties.

- How do you organize your clan(s)?
Tabs

- Do roles/beliefs/etc differ depending on what clan you are in?
Nope

- How does/do your clan(s) feel toward outsiders?
Generally cautious welcoming. They want to expand their numbers, but they're also not stupid and know they have enemies.

- Does your clan have a hierarchy? If so, how is it organized? If not, what kind of system does your clan use?
There's a clan leader and a head of each branch. Other than that here's no hierarchy.

- Is/are your clans a single element or a mix of elements?
Mixed.

- What kind of territory does/do your clan(s) live in? If you have multiple, do they share the same territory?
They currently all live in Plague territory, but the other branches did start in different elemental zones.

How does/do your clan(s) choose a leader(s)?
Whoever is the strongest in the clan. It's a big brawl fest for the top.

- Does your lair have one clan or more than one clan?
Yes! My lair has 2 clans divided into The Knights of Calar and Clan Wywood. They both inhabit the city of New Calar but have always been opposing forces.

- How do you organize your clan(s)?
Mostly by colour/aesthetic and lair tabs.

- Do roles/beliefs/etc differ depending on what clan you are in?
Religion and witchcraft is more prominent in Clan Wywood.

- How does/do your clan(s) feel toward outsiders?
They are generally accepting to outsiders, but most visitors do not stay long.

- Does your clan have a hierarchy? If so, how is it organized? If not, what kind of system does your clan use?
Both clans use different ways to govern themselves. The Calar are obsessed with lineage while Clan Wywood uses the most magically powerful/talented dragons to lead them.

- Is/are your clans a single element or a mix of elements?
Mix of elements

- What kind of territory does/do your clan(s) live in? If you have multiple, do they share the same territory?
They live in the city of New Calar, which is an ancient underground city near Greatwyrm's Breach.

How does/do your clan(s) choose a leader(s)?
In order to govern New Calar, a council is made up of 3 leaders from Clan Wywood and 3 from The Knights of Calar. By no means are they friends with each other, their aim is to keep the city at peace

- Does your lair have one clan or more than one clan?
one clan. the Cancerous Coalition.

- How do you organize your clan(s)?
tabs go by color. delta gets her own tab because she's arcane and also purple.

- Do roles/beliefs/etc differ depending on what clan you are in?
nope. most worship is dedicated to the Plaguebringer but they also pay tribute to minor deities and even some beastclan deities.

- How does/do your clan(s) feel toward outsiders?
patriarch Typheus is slightly flightist and doesn't let any dragon without plague eyes into the Coalition, except for Delta who he raised from an egg.

- Does your clan have a hierarchy? If so, how is it organized? If not, what kind of system does your clan use?
sort of? Typheus and Echidna are top tier as the patriarch and matriarch, Delta is directly below them, everyone else exists i guess.

- Is/are your clans a single element or a mix of elements?
plague only.

- What kind of territory does/do your clan(s) live in? If you have multiple, do they share the same territory?
they live on an island in the Wyrmwound. they call it the Only Island even though it certainly isn't the only one. the clan is based out of the ruins of a lighthouse called the Spire of Sickness, which was once a stronghold for the Army of Rot before Typheus and Echidna took it over.

How does/do your clan(s) choose a leader(s)?
dragons are drawn to the Coalition because of Typheus' unnaturally strong aura. why is this? he's the son of the Plaguebringer, surprise! only his familiar knows this, she has kept it secret since his birth. he has been the leader because he founded the clan many years ago and hasn't died yet. probably won't, being a demigod and all

- Does your lair have one clan or more than one clan?
Technically there are two, Borderguard #9 and the Banescales, but I haven't gotten around to the Banes yet. So there won't be much on them

- How do you organize your clan(s)?
Borderguard -
First page is my original seven, when I was playing three years ago. Second and third pages are just random dragons I picked up, either from adopt-a-dragon threads or just buying form the AH. Fourth page is the nest.
Organization has no real bearing on how it is in the clan, except for the nest.

- Do roles/beliefs/etc differ depending on what clan you are in?
Haven't really gotten that far, but the Banes are probably a bit more superstitious than the main clan.

- How does/do your clan(s) feel toward outsiders?
The Borderguard sees so many dragons coming into and going out of the Shifting Expanse, they have to be welcoming to a certain degree. And since most outsiders are just visiting or passing through, it's not much of a problem.

- Does your clan have a hierarchy? If so, how is it organized? If not, what kind of system does your clan use?
No hierarchy, each member has a job/role. All jobs are important, some more important than others so it's more organized around who stays within the clan's home ground and who ventures out.

- Is/are your clans a single element or a mix of elements?
It's mostly Lightning, but there are several Ice dragons, and a smattering from almost every element.

- What kind of territory does/do your clan(s) live in? If you have multiple, do they share the same territory?
The Borderguard resides in the least likely of places–the border. The northern border, to be exact. Hidden from the casual observer, but a keen eye will be able to pick out underground dens and well-worn paths peppering the highlands.

How does/do your clan(s) choose a leader(s)?
Technically there's no leader, but unofficially Archon is the leader based on seniority in the clan and the fact that she's a Guardian, as she oversees the protections and defenses of the clan.

- Does your lair have one clan or more than one clan?
there's 2 now, though around a week ago it was just the one.

- How do you organize your clan(s)?
lair tabs! hibernal den is mostly for fodder and non-lore since i have a tendency to forget anything i can't immediately see...

- Do roles/beliefs/etc differ depending on what clan you are in?
roles definitely differ since one clan is an inn (though it's more on the scale of a hotel) and the other is a "multi-purpose all-functional organization" (group of dragons trying and failing to make bank somehow)

beliefs are different, though they also differ within the groups themselves, so it's nothing unexpected.

- How does/do your clan(s) feel toward outsiders?
the inn welcomes outsiders, since that's their main (?) source of revenue. but money aside, the staff do seem to enjoy contact with new dragons.

the company is also friendly towards outsiders for the most part, though a lot more unnerving. the conversation usually steers towards milking payment out of the newcomers somehow if it goes on for too long with certain dragons involved.

- Does your clan have a hierarchy? If so, how is it organized? If not, what kind of system does your clan use?
the inn has an unspoken hierarchy of power that goes inn managers > staff members > longtime residents > new residents, though everyone's pretty lax about anything that doesn't regard the inn manager. most dragons play nice, anyway.

the company is all over the place, but there are definitely "main organizers" and "followers". neither positions are closed off from each other, and dragons can switch between them at will. followers also don't necessarily have to obey the main organizers, but their well-being is less... ensured, if they choose to do so.

- Is/are your clans a single element or a mix of elements?
mix.... it's a mess in here...

- What kind of territory does/do your clan(s) live in? If you have multiple, do they share the same territory?
the inn is situated in a massive mountain in the cairnstone rest, while the company travels around occasionally but is usually situated somewhere in the cairnstone rest as well. the company favors areas with more covering, and rarely settles in flat, open areas.

How does/do your clan(s) choose a leader(s)?
they were both the ones who started the respective "clans", so they were basically leaders from the start. nobody's really bothered to attempt to usurp either, since one (inn manager) is a generally nice leader and the other (company head) is... good at preserving everyone's safety.

heck yes i love questionnaires

- Does your lair have one clan or more than one clan?
Technically more than one, because my lore is revolved around a whole institution (my fictional O.R.B.I.T. Institution) with multiple sites.

- How do you organize your clan(s)?
pff i dont

- Do roles/beliefs/etc differ depending on what clan you are in?
Roles may differ a little, based on what that specific clan/site is specializing in, but overall must stay relatively the same.

- How does/do your clan(s) feel toward outsiders?
Depends on the definition of "outsiders." New staff member? Great! Random person stumbles upon the place? Not great, they're dead

- Does your clan have a hierarchy? If so, how is it organized? If not, what kind of system does your clan use?
The institution has a system for who has the control/makes the commands. The government rules over all, overwriting any and all commands, though they don't often interfere. Then comes the leaders (still need to come up with an alternate title than leader) of the institution, who generally make all the calls. Then comes all the researchers/staff, in different ranks based on their importance. (For example, a janitor would be less than a medical genius.) Then there's the test subjects, who pretty much have no say in anything.

- Is/are your clans a single element or a mix of elements?
The sites are spread out across Sornieth, so they're a mix. Even in individual sites, there's a lot of diversity because they pull people from all around the globe.

- What kind of territory does/do your clan(s) live in? If you have multiple, do they share the same territory?
I already explained the thing about the different sites, so I'll give some background on the overall world. The world they live in is a futuristic Sornieth, with skyscrapers and such. A lot of the land is covered by buildings or concrete, but there are plenty of farms, gardens, and parks.

How does/do your clan(s) choose a leader(s)?
The current leaders are the ones who founded the institution, and considering there's a group of them and they're rarely in the same place at once, it's highly unlikely they'll all drop dead at once. If one of the current leaders go, the others will find a replacement.

- Does your lair have one clan or more than one clan?
we have one clan! there are social groups within each clan, but they aren't strict ^^ my progens & their council are the leaders; my Lore Permas tab (and the Odd Squad tab) are the official/canon members, and anyone else in one of my perma tabs (so basically all lair/den tabs that aren't sale, tentative, project, or exalt) are background characters, like the unnamed people in the restaurant while the main characters have lunch P:

- How do you organize your clan(s)?
i think i answered that above, whoops |D

- Do roles/beliefs/etc differ depending on what clan you are in?
not applicable to me, i think, since i just have one clan!

- How does/do your clan(s) feel toward outsiders?
very welcoming by default! the basis of our clan is an asylum for those without a home, so we get a lot of misfits that end up living here ^^ there are a few exceptions in which the clan gets wary of new people (most commonly towards plague dragons, because nature/plague tensions and all, which picked up much more after BotE), but they don't outright turn people down immediately. also like, i still exalt any dragon no matter the flight, so in the context of lore, all flights may want to be exalted to the gladekeeper!

- Does your clan have a hierarchy? If so, how is it organized? If not, what kind of system does your clan use?
leading the clan is my custom progen, sarihlle, and she has a council of six total members - herself, her mate frir, clan exalter ancient, hatchling caretaker jurassic, holistic doctor yohualli, and surgeon and seer osteon - who help each other make decisions and run the clan! however it's a very friendly environment, and people see the members of the council like parents/friends/mentors more than anything. i'd say it feels very similarly to the firstborn/luminaries of the sylvari in guild wars 2 c: no surprises there

- Is/are your clans a single element or a mix of elements?
single element! we're nature through and through c: but we do have representatives, and i have contemplated some lore involving elements of earth, wind, and water!

there's one dragon who believes in a particular entity called The Sands, in which he "reads" the messages that come when wind blows sand a certain way; those messages have guided him greatly in life, and i've been playing it out as a true entity <3 that's where the earth/wind comes into play

i've also noticed a handful of important water-adjacent dragons, be they water dragons or dragons involved with water lore, so i'm wondering if there's an element of connection there as well!

once the map update comes out, i really wanna see where i'll be able to locate my clan, because i kinda see it as on the western part of nature but also still where it's forested (not deep jungle tho), near the everbloom gardens...? kind of a weird mix but X_X map will help me solidify! i am hoping to be somewhere on the western side near-ish to the coast at least, because of certain characters who i imagine living on the coast! at times i've imagined they may be able to see parts of dragonhome too? so i'm really curious to see how that plays out! :D

- What kind of territory does/do your clan(s) live in? If you have multiple, do they share the same territory?
oops, answered that above a little bit again LOL. generally centered around one area, but a little spread out? i haven't entirely pictured it out, but i suppose i see it kinda like the center of the clan as downtown and people live in different areas within or surrounding that little downtown area c: i know there's at least a central firepit area for celebrations, a small marketplace, and it seems to be set in a forested area with nearby clearings and fields! but like i mentioned above, a few dragons spend time elsewhere; i have two dragons who like to explore the shrieking wilds together, and some more reclusive dragons who live more on the western coast in some caves. i do really wanna figure it out more in detail eventually!

How does/do your clan(s) choose a leader(s)?
well, there's only ever been my progen leading the clan, so i haven't figured out how leaders are chosen! the way i've written my lore so far, and that of other dragons, is that a single dragon finds other dragons to band together and start a small clan, and it can grow in size. kind of like a guild? but also pretty much how gameplay goes, with progens starting the game & you expand your lair size as more dragons come in! so technically for my clan, sarihlle is the founder!

i have no idea who would lead the clan after her, though! i have a few different ideas off the top of my head: 1. council members collectively choose someone to take her place and to bring someone new in to the council; 2. the clan holds an election for a leader specifically, possibly from the council with potential write ins; 3. one of sarihlle's first nest sons - likely her second son and second-in-command warrior, galaeron - would take her place. frir, sarihlle's mate, doesn't really feel much like a leader, so he would likely opt for galaeron to step up in her place ^^

edit: whoops, clicked submit too early LOL

i have no idea who would lead the clan after her, though! i have a few different ideas off the top of my head: 1. council members collectively choose someone to take her place and to bring someone new in to the council; 2. the clan holds an election for a leader specifically, possibly from the council with potential write ins; 3. one of sarihlle's first nest sons - likely her second son and second-in-command warrior, galaeron - would take her place. frir, sarihlle's mate, doesn't really feel much like a leader, so he would likely opt for galaeron to step up in her place ^^

edit: whoops, clicked submit too early LOL

- Does your lair have one clan or more than one clan?
Yes, but actually no. My clan has a really long history. When they were in the Southern Icefields, they were simply one small clan. They split apart into four separate tribes once they reached the Windswept Plateau. And after their civil war essentially, they're back into one large, happy clan. However, the clan has decided that they would essentially be classified by their former tribe. So one big clan, four divisions that basically don't mean anything besides what a dragon is good at, instead of a former tribe allegiance. [Rosethrawl are the farmers, Stargaze magicians, Blazebeak crafters, Softsong warriors, etc...]

- How do you organize your clan(s)?
I organize them by town/role! After their war, the towns have more or less been condensed into one huge village [The Reach/Aerie]. There are a few smaller towns that remain, like Dapplefell and Farthenhome, which is mainly for display reasons really. [Dapplefell are my favorites-but-not-exactly-lore-important, and Farthenhome contains my dragons that didn't really vibe with the Reach.]

- Do roles/beliefs/etc differ depending on what clan you are in?
Yes. When the clan first split, the tribes developed their own unique beliefs, although they retained lots of similar ideas. For example, a dragon from Softsong believes crows would be a bad omen, while those from Rosethrawl see them as bringers of fortune. Yet all four subsections worship the Windsinger, Celebrate the Harvest Festival, and really like kites, etc.

- How does/do your clan(s) feel toward outsiders?
They're generally welcoming, but do have a habit of judging by looks due to some... past occurrences, to say the least.

- Does your clan have a hierarchy? If so, how is it organized? If not, what kind of system does your clan use?
The clan is currently ruled over by the former tribe Queens and the Mediators who make sure the Queens don't kill each other again. Higher ranking dragons [Dapplefell basically] offer advice and generally serve as a council of sorts.

- Is/are your clans a single element or a mix of elements?
Mostly wind, but there are many other elements. Light and Fire are a close second.

- What kind of territory does/do your clan(s) live in? If you have multiple, do they share the same territory?
Its sort of a mix of bamboo forests, valleys, and regular forests? I kinda just ignore the fact that there are little to no trees on the wind area of the World Map. Actually, I just really ignore it in general and only use it to reference domain locations and borders.Dapplefell is located in a small grove near The Reach, which is built mainly in a large valley, and it, well, Reaches high into the sky. Farthenhome is located in the clans original settling place. [Icefields]

How does/do your clan(s) choose a leader(s)?
Mediators are picked by the clan members, while the Queens go by heirs. If a mediator were to die/retire, a vote would be held to determine the successor. If a Queen were to die or retire, their eldest daughter would become the next Queen. If there were no daughter, then any sister of the Queen. If there was no sister, [or other blood-related females] then a high-ranking member that belonged to the respective division [former tribe] would be elected.

These questions make me realize how much I miss my old lair theme, rip :') six more months of suffering and then I can finally go back

- Does your lair have one clan or more than one clan?

Multiple research outposts run by scientists employed by the same megacorporation. In that sense, it's a single clan, though Sector Six and Sector Four are somewhat separated (located within different flight territories).

- How do you organize your clan(s)?

By biome, and then more specifically (page by page) by scientists vs. creepy eldritch horrors they inadvertently uncover under the sea.

- Do roles/beliefs/etc differ depending on what clan you are in?

Nah. The roles are all the same for the sake of professionalism and consistency, and everyone and everything is extremely secular. Sector Six is a bit independent from the Water Flight (Sector Four) mission, but they follow the same agenda as Sector Four.

Fun fact: None of the SORN scientists have actually seen one of the deities and thus don't believe they exist; after all, most religions they've encountered weren't rooted in fact, and magic had a very different (and less tangible) meaning in their world.

- How does/do your clan(s) feel toward outsiders?

Considering they're not actually dragons but rather extraterrestrial beings whose consciences have been transferred to semi-biological constructs resembling the bodies of native Sornieth species, they're the outsiders. But as far as visitors to their facilities go? Strictly forbidden. Every Alterran base on Sornieth is equipped with an electromagnetic forcefield that permits passage for anyone equipped with a subcutaneous chip; i.e., you have to be cleared by the corporation itself. Anyone who is not part of the original mission cannot get in.

The Alterrans can get out, though, and let me tell you, they're awful at pretending to be dragons.

- Does your clan have a hierarchy? If so, how is it organized? If not, what kind of system does your clan use?

Behind the scenes, the CEO and Board of Directors of Alterra are far above everyone on the SORN mission hierarchically. As far as the SORN mission itself goes, the project director takes hierarchical precedence, followed by the Sector Director and the senior xenobiologists in charge of their respective teams (zoology, botany, microbiology, ecology, etc).

The project director is on-planet but not necessarily within Water Flight territory, and mostly just reports back to Alterra from a nice office at the Tempest Spire. The Sector Four director remains within Water Flight territory and oversees the progression of the mission within this jurisdiction.

- Is/are your clans a single element or a mix of elements?

Mix of elements, though they still don't understand how exotic matter (magic) is channeled biologically within the local lifeforms and utilized.

- What kind of territory does/do your clan(s) live in? If you have multiple, do they share the same territory?

The SORN mission is based in every elemental biome, but the Water and Ice flights are the ones my lair focuses on. Every flight region has some sort of base of operations for SORN.

How does/do your clan(s) choose a leader(s)?

The project director was elected by the off-planet Board of Directors. Should a senior biologist perish, they will be immediately replaced by the member of their team with the most amount of qualifications for the position.

- Does your lair have one clan or more than one clan?
There are many many clans!

- How do you organize your clan(s)?
I organize them by the city/kingdom they love in.

- Do roles/beliefs/etc differ depending on what clan you are in?
They are all fairly different from one another.

- How does/do your clan(s) feel toward outsiders?
It really depends on what clan your in some don’t take well to outsiders, some will welcome with open arms.

- Does your clan have a hierarchy? If so, how is it organized? If not, what kind of system does your clan use?
All clans have a hierarchy usually either most powerful out of them or the one with most insight and leadership.

- Is/are your clans a single element or a mix of elements?
Mixed but I usually try to fallow a specific theme for each

- What kind of territory does/do your clan(s) live in? If you have multiple, do they share the same territory?
They live all over Sorneith some clans even live outside in other realm and planets!

How does/do your clan(s) choose a leader(s)?
Each clan has their own way of choosing their leaders from battles to find the strongest, tests of the mind. Each clan has a unique way of finding their leaders.
