The mountain towered over him as he paused to catch his breath. How on earth was he supposed to make it? He could hear the howling gales, feel the frigid blizzards from here. All living things stayed away from the base of the mountain; they knew better. For every being who makes it off alive, so many do not. Maybe he was destined to die on this mountain, to join the countless unfortunate travelers who died for answers they would never receive. But if he didn't try...

He didn't want to think about it.

Wielding his magic like a ward, he began. Battling through the smothering wind, wading through the infinite snow, he ever so slowly worked his way up. He followed the ancient path forged by the pilgrims before him. The sun was going down, but he could not stop. If he did, that would be the end. Freezing though he was, he was ever so grateful for the cloak given to him by his love, his king. And so, he forged on.
