I'm not sure if yo know this or not , but out of pickerton's pile are the items completely randomized or from a long list ?

@Bonessss There are some things Pinkerton will never give out- retired items, festival stuff, gem marketplace goodies, unhatched eggs, and gene or breed scrolls for example. So it's just a long list, it's not randomized from literally every item in the game.

I know there's a chance to get one through gathering - are there any other ways?

Only through scavenging can you find unhatched eggs , and wherever element you are searching you will find the egg of that element .
