The ONLY reason I know how to pronounce it correctly is Final Fantasy XIV. Lol. Titan and his dang gaols! If not for that I'd 100% be saying GOW-LER.

I actually have somehow trained myself to say Gaoler as Jailer (Jay-O-Ler sometimes with an exaggerated accent) but Coatl is a lost cause, it will forever be pronounced coat-el whether correct or not.

This! I know the correct pronunciation is "jailer" but I much prefer this 'incorrect' one (my previous assumption too lol) which makes me think of wind howling through the icy mountains.
