'Rarest' just means that specific combination of colors and/or genes isn't particularly common. No dragon will end up staying 'rare,' however, since every single combination of colors/genes can and will end up being bred at some point!
Some of the uncommon combinations from older threads are probably quite common now!

To be honest, with the site as populated as it is, I'm not sure there are rare colors or genes anymore-- but there are certainly desirable ones!
With this size of community every dragon on the site is probably someone's idea of a great-looking dragon, but generally speaking, gem genes are considered more desirable than treasure genes, and colors that are either very light, very dark, or very saturated tend to do pretty well (pastels in general are also popular).
What is new and might interest you is eye types. Eye types are randomized on every dragon so you can't breed for them, and some of them (e.g. primal) are -very- rare.

I dunno about rare color combos in general, but I do have one of the few Gold/Crimson/Crimson Crystal/Facet/Glimmer Imp breeding pairs on site (partially because they're pretty much all related and I got lucky when I got them).

Though of all my dragons I'd say Palla is pretty damn rare. They're the only active jungle/jungle/sable dragon on the site (and there's only four other exalted ones), the only dragon [i]ever[/i] with that colour-gene combo, is G1 and has primal eyes. They are my most special bab and I love them. <33

The only things that can be permanently rare would be things that are limited by site mechanics - i.e. there can only be one dragon per ID, so dragons with single number IDs (e.g. #4444444) are always going to be rare. Dragons with two-letter names will become increasingly rare as time passes. Non-progen G1 Imperials are already really fricking rare, and will only become more so as people who own them go inactive.
And if you're looking for a G1 of a specific colour... well, you'll quickly learn how rare any particular combo is when each hatchling is randomly generated! It is oof.
