It looks great on female Imperials, in my humble opinion. It works best on breeds with really long bodies/necks, even better if it compliments the other colors.

Contour used to be my least favorite tert, but now I like it in a number of instances.
I think it can make a nice, less-cluttered substitute for Circuit. Very techy, but it accents the primary and secondary genes rather than stealing the stage.

I like Contour! I do think it tends to work best with a Basic primary or secondary (I'm also not opposed to having a Basic gene on a dragon), but I also think it works well with Skink/Poison or Spinner/Toxin.
It can definitely present difficulties with some genes, like Crystal/Facet (because it looks so matte in comparison) or Savannah/Falcon (because of how it cuts across the pattern).
